I'm going to MLB the show 17 and signing you because your still a free agent and going to put you in the batting order as a DH and make sure you hit 300%
This guy just seems like a super chill dude. Very humble, and his technical videos are great as well as these behind the scenes videos. I would totally buy an Antonelli hat! Thanks so much for all you do man. Baseball is a great game, and you are a great ambassador.
Matt these videos are great. Ideas for future videos that your subscribers might enjoy... 1. Talk about well known MLB players who were nice to you during your time in the show. 2. Talk about locker room and dugout pranks. 3. Talk about your involvement in some of the "unwritten " rules of baseball. 4. Talk about MLB spring training vs. minor league spring training. 5. Talk about when you were first called up and how that happened. 6. Talk about getting added to the 40 man roster if that was different than when you got called up to MLB
This is a weird set of questions but what's it like getting a jersey number assigned? Equipment managers choose or do you? Why'd you wear #62 then #9? I thought I saw you wear #10 in spring training or something with the Padres.
I moved to San Antonio a couple of years ago and through somebody I worked with, invited me to play in an amateur league/beer league to play in, my early 30's still had to urge to keep playing. The league was predominately Hispanic and my first practice with them ( they played weekends and seldom practiced ) I wasn't overly intimated, as my jr college baseball experience thought might make me a good fit. Well, what I didn't know was on game days, they brought in ringers to play. Guys who played or were playing in the Mexican League, Dominicans who were minor leaguers for different teams, keep in mind this league ran from October through April, but the weather was good most of the time. Think maybe the most famous player that played on a team I played with was Randal Simon, a left hander who played for a bunch of teams. This was two years ago and he was in his 40's but Damn, when he made contact with the ball, you appreciated the talent of a professional hitter. By March all the players who had contracts with professional teams in the Majors or the Mexican League had left to report to their clubs. So, by the time the playoffs began in March, the talent pool had dropped off significantly for a bulk of the teams. But some teams still would find retired professional players or guys who pitched in college to come and play. The funny thing about this league was the field they played in; it's in South San Antonio on a dead end road in the middle of somebody's ranch, lol. And it was next to an airport, and pilots would buzz the field at times, which I think they did on purpose. But the field was nice and we had an announcer on game days and all who would play Spanish music in between innings. I will add a link so anybody can see how remote it was. The following year I had a couple of guys from the Dominican Republic stay with me through the winter, they were both in the Dodgers farm system, they became good friends of mine cause they played on the team with me, they were paid ringers getting $500 a game. One of them plays with the Mariners now and the other played last year in the Braves farm system, but he married a woman he met in Florida. How they ended up in San Antonio was there was they knew a somebody who worked for the Dodgers Double AA team in San Antonio. That team if anybody might know, plays in what most would consider the worst part of San Antonio which is the south part of the city. This is a great channel by the way, really informative and captivating. www.google.com/maps/@29.3316404,-98.4708172,469m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en&authuser=0
I live in Fort Wayne. I would venture to guess you stayed at Canterbury Green apartments. Right next to the old ballpark. They have a golf course just like you described. Don't ask how I know. Great story.
Good ol Texas League. I've seen a few HOF's come through this league when we had the Shreveport Captains. I would love to bring this team back. I played catch with the guys that went on to the show. I didnt opportunity to get signed but I would watch the game with scouts and they saw that I had a eye for talent. I want to become a scout
My brother in law played in Australia for a few years after high school. He really enjoyed it. AAA and most other minor league teams tend to be in small cities or towns. Is there a reason for that , is it to cut down on costs? Also are there minor league teams in Fl and Az spring training, again is it to use these stadiums after spring training?
We were a host family for the High Desert Mavericks we had 2 players. We contacted the team and just let them know we would be a host family, we helped the players get to games it was fun as a kid because we went to games for free
Very good information. I moved last year to an apartment in a complex right across the street from a Class A team's ballpark. I was wondering if players rented apartments here but I doubt it after seeing the video on minor league salaries. It is an upscale really nice place and the rents are 3/4 of Class A pre tax monthly salary.
How many players had their own car in low-A ball, rookie league, and instructional? Is not having a car change the experience playing professional baseball and staying with a host family that you're limited traveling without carpooling. The season is long and how do players find privacy and space between going to the hotel, host family, or baseball facility? Can you also do another video what's the difference between D1, D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO and which out of the 4 give you chances to get drafted by a MLB team? I heard in the rise of social media, JUCO is better than D3 and NAIA in terms of MLB scouts. Thanks for giving deep input about the life of a professional baseball player
Can you do a video on how you got scouts and colleges to look at you. And how you get scouts to look at you if you live in a small town. I'm from New England as well.
I'd be interested to pick your brain and talk about minor league baseball vs minor league hockey, there seem to be a lot of similarities but also a few key differences, (A and AA hockey contracts have to be renewed weekly and A players make from $700 a month to $1000 a month at best where AA makes $1400 to around $2400 but also housing is provided for players). Great videos and very interesting topics to cover that many kids coming up through high school and even college ball might have misconceptions about though, I look forward to the next video.
Every now and then I hear of a minor leaguer who lives in their car during the season. After watching this video and the video about minor league pay, it is understandable.
Can you talk about agents? How you got one, when, how much do they make, what all they do for you, are deals pretty standard whether your player 40 on the 40 man or a super star, are you in contact often...etc, etc?...thanks love your videos
To fix your slice slightly turn your wrists forward and when you turn them back the club is straight. I have the same problem. Whenever I golf it's always during baseball season, but isn't it always baseball season?
Most apartments make you sign for a certain amount of time. How did you deal with that, or how do players deal with that? OR can you find an apartment that doesn't make you commit to a set amount of time?
So here's a question. Just say, there's a pop up infield fly. Three players go after it, pitcher, catcher and thirdbase, each one starts calling "got it". So, who in the three has the "right-of-way" to call off the other two and catch the ball ? How would that change if it were three outfielders ?
how do find time to even look for an apartment when you have no idea where you are going going into spring training, and how do you get a lease agreement for such a short time? How do guys that have no money manage this?
you should make a video explaining what coaches/players are saying to umps when arguing. also david freese went to my high school, same one ryan howard went to
what is your experience with "bonus babies" how did people spend their money what was the nicest thing you treated yourself with on a big league salary
I'm going to MLB the show 17 and signing you because your still a free agent and going to put you in the batting order as a DH and make sure you hit 300%
These videos are very interesting. Thanks for all the interesting stories.
Thanks for watching!!!
i don't even play baseball, hockey player but love hearing about your experiences. awesome
This guy just seems like a super chill dude. Very humble, and his technical videos are great as well as these behind the scenes videos. I would totally buy an Antonelli hat! Thanks so much for all you do man. Baseball is a great game, and you are a great ambassador.

Dude these videos are amazing for avid baseball fans like me and aspiring athletes. Getting inside access from a major leaguer it's so awesome
Thanks so much!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
You took the MAX! That's how I always went to Beaver games too. Actually when I go anywhere downtown
could you make a video about what high school players should do year by year and the biggest things that scouts look for?

The train is called the MAX
Burke Alexander throw gas hit bombs
The golf story was hilarious! I think every baseball player has been in a similar situation.
Your videos started getting recommend to me 3 days ago.. I've watched about 40 videos already. I really like the insight and hearing the experiences.
Hey thanks a bunch!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Extremely informative. This has to be one of your best. Thanks for sharing your gift!
@Antonelli Baseball I’m a Portlander and I think I remember seeing you play when I went to my first ever pro game!! Too bad the beavers are gone!!
This is a weird set of questions but what's it like getting a jersey number assigned? Equipment managers choose or do you? Why'd you wear #62 then #9? I thought I saw you wear #10 in spring training or something with the Padres.
I have a video on that coming out in the next few days! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I love watching your videos Matt!! Very cool to hear stories about the behind the scenes stuff that people like me often wonder about. Keep it up!
Love your viedos. Just found it but learned more about baseball in two weeks than my whole life
Thanks!!!
I believe its the MAX rail system in Portland if I remember correctly.
That's it!!! Thanks for watching and commenting!
TriMet
Amazing video! Keep up the great work!
MAX trains. I grew up going to beaver games so I probably saw you play, my dad might remember names more than me.
Hey Matt. Love your videos! Will you make a video about what qualities coaches are looking for from their players? Keep up the great work!
It'd be awesome if you could make a video on what it's like to be traded or released, thanks!!
You should also do a video on how you find out you've been called up or traded.
I'm new to this channel so I don't know if there's a video on it already, but if not, you should make a video about why/how your career ended
Did you ever have to deal with hecklers?
I'm from Fort Wayne. I think the apartment complex is Canterbury Green, I lived there as a baby, and I've played that golf course a few dozen times.
I moved to San Antonio a couple of years ago and through somebody I worked with, invited me to play in an amateur league/beer league to play in, my early 30's still had to urge to keep playing. You're welcome, keep up the great work!
In Syracuse- had to be the Franklin Park Apartments. Great place.
I think that was what it was called! Thanks for watching!
I live in Fort Wayne. I would venture to guess you stayed at Canterbury Green apartments. Right next to the old ballpark. They have a golf course just like you described. Don't ask how I know. Great story.

You should explain what the tenure is like when you're injured, and what you have to do for rehab.
what kind of jobs do retired minor/major leaguers get once they start needing money?
Whatever they can find lol. I got into coaching. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Antonelli Baseball no problem love your videos. What's your experience with arm injuries and if so how young were you?
My brother in law played in Australia for a few years after high school. He really enjoyed it. AAA and most other minor league teams tend to be in small cities or towns. Hey could you do a video on who was the funniest guy or the best prankster you played with ?
Very good information. I moved last year to an apartment in a complex right across the street from a Class A team's ballpark. Good questions! Probably same way most people handle it with co-workers. Stay away from them lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Every now and then I hear of a minor leaguer who lives in their car during the season. After watching this video and the video about minor league pay, it is understandable.

Matt. Do you get a pension?
How much do mlb union dues cost?
Thanks!

Thanks for watching and commenting!
Can you talk about agents? How you got one, when, how much do they make, what all they do for you, are deals pretty standard whether your player 40 on the 40 man or a super star, are you in contact often...etc, etc?...thanks love your videos

I remember when the Railriders and Red Wings shared Frontier Field, tickets were impossible to get so I basically didn't go to any games that year

To fix your slice slightly turn your wrists forward and when you turn them back the club is straight. I have the same problem. Whenever I golf it's always during baseball season, but isn't it always baseball season?
Thanks!!!
Freeze has definitely had some moments.
Most apartments make you sign for a certain amount of time. How did you deal with that, or how do players deal with that? OR can you find an apartment that doesn't make you commit to a set amount of time?
hey Matt, what do the players talk about on the bench in a MLB game. you see them talking and I always wonder what.
Going to make a video on that for you! Thanks for watching and commenting!
David Freeze was your roommate? He is an awesome guy.
Now the Portland Beavers moved away and I have to drive like 20 minutes to Hillsboro and watch single A which just isn't the same
Yeah that stinks! I loved playing in Portland. Thanks for watching and commenting!
So here's a question. Just say, there's a pop up infield fly. Three players go after it, pitcher, catcher and thirdbase, each one starts calling "got it". So, who in the three has the "right-of-way" to call off the other two and catch the ball ? How would that change if it were three outfielders ?
3B would. We have a video on pop-up priority. Check it out we go in depth. Thanks for watching and commenting!
When you played in Portland, did you keep your stuff at the home locker room? Or did you have to bring it on the train thing every home game?
Hey Matt,
I want to know if you can do a video of how Minor League/ Major League pensions work?
I can try. I don't know all the details, but can give a basic idea. Thanks for watching!!

Thanks for watching and commenting!
how do find time to even look for an apartment when you have no idea where you are going going into spring training, and how do you get a lease agreement for such a short time? How do guys that have no money manage this?
How did you travel with your gloves and keep them safe and in shape?!?
I actually had one stolen out of my bag once at the airport. I guess I just got lucky with all the other ones lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!
How is the signing bonus given to you? Do you get it all upfront or is it distributed over a period of time.
Do you know if big salary players rent apartments in multiple cities for the season or would they just stay in all hotels?
I've always seen them just stay in the team hotel. Most hotels are amazing anyways. Thanks for watching and commenting!
San Antonio missions are going to be triple A ball in 2019, new stadium and all
Wow that is interesting. I had no idea! Thanks for watching and commenting!
How do you block out fans asking for autographs, balls, etc when you need to focus on playing?
you should make a video explaining what coaches/players are saying to umps when arguing. also david freese went to my high school, same one ryan howard went to
That is awesome! And I can do that for you! Thanks for watching and commenting!
The Portland train is called the MAX
That's it!!! Thanks!!
what is your experience with "bonus babies" how did people spend their money what was the nicest thing you treated yourself with on a big league salary
Good questions! I'll try to put something together for you! Thanks for watching!!
After playing in the MLB do u ever go to MLB games and watch or is it not fun to watch anymore after playing in the league?
I've actually only been to like 1 MLB game since retiring. I would like to go more though. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Did you get any offers, or consider playing over in Japan or South Korea
Have you never played at Fifth third field in Toledo
Did you ever get a garbage plate while in Rochester?
How did you transport your car across the country when you were traded?
do you have to pay for your accommodation during the season or off season?
Did each family had their own set of rules at their residence that the players had to obey by?
Camera looks good
Thanks!! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Columbus Clippers, Portland Beavers, Norfolk Tides. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Could you explain how arbitration works?
Interesting! I have always wondered how minor leaguers live away from the park.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
