Self employed ODs have no free benefits, paid vacations, sick days, retirements , matching 401Ks. You will be treated like a trade school technician by ophthalmologists after 8 years of college. I graduated optometry school in 1981.Things were pretty good back then. Obama-care doesn't pay ODs. Now optometry doesn't make sense. Just add up what it costs in years of school, tuition student loans, Also patients are more disrespectful and expect $49 eye exams with free follow up appointments. Nurse practitioners go to school fewer years, are allowed to do more procedures. You have been warned
