Now This is more or less the type of fight that was described in the Matthew Stover novelization of Revenge of the Sith. Obi-Wan and Anakin working as a team were completely overwhelming Dooku's defenses and he had no choice but to get rid of Obi-Wan as soon as possible or else they were going to defeat him. I definitely would have liked to have seen this version in the movie.
I still imagine it happened this way in the movie. You can tell a lot of the shots were cut even from the final version, doesnt mean it didnt happen in-universe. These bts videos are a good glimpse of how it was supposed to go.
Nope, in the novel it was stated that both jedi fought with different styles in the early portion (one used shien reverse handle) and that dooku levitated a bunch of tables to throw them at anakin or toss anakin to them while he countered obi wan's ataro combat form. This deleted scene/stunt video doesn't show any of that.
Not at all. In the novel, Dooku was far more pressend then here, and he was unable to fight them both at once. Once or twice he jumped away as I remember, he was kicking them and Force pushing them, only to not fight them both head on. Here, he's quite capable of competing with both of them. It seems that they have a some advantage, but he is still doing very well. Far more similar fight to that from the novel is their last encounter in The Clone Wars show. Dooku seems to has the upper hand in terms of skill, a different thing is that he's able to force Anakin onto defense, but overall it's pretty novel-like. He's all the time doing anything to fight one of them at the time.
Yeah The choreographers probably felt cheated after they saw the final cut of the movies with shit stitched together choreography when they’d practiced for somthing that was so much better and cooler
If there was any other fight I would want to see it. It would either be Obi Wan fighting the magnaguards, Anakin fighting in the Jedi Temple, or the original idea for the Grevious fight.
I'm super impressed with Michael Byrne (if I've got the right one) in how he went from doubling Palpatine to such a bang-on replication of Obi-Wan's fighting style- you could tell exactly who it's meant to be even without knowing the scene!
I just can’t believe Disney fed us all of this fan service and prelogy bashing thinking they were doing good only to get rid of this and give us some grandma choreographed fight sequences.
You have no idea how happy I am to see more BTS regarding the prequel duels. I really hope if there ever is a live action of Knights of the Old Republic you can help LucasFilm choreograph again!

0:08 - Anakin and Obi-Wan have the same high guard, except Anakin feints, and takes up a hanging guard. Just shows a level of how in-tune Anakin and Obi-Wan are to work together like this. 0:12 - what a great bit of storytelling. Obi-Wan's completely vulnerable, and Anakin sweeps in front of him, fending off Dooku. 00:38 - a *slick* second of choreography. After the constant back and forth, Anakin does something pretty reckless, and steps into Dooku's strike, getting his entire body on the inside of the strike. Goes to show how confident and in-control of the situation he is. 00:42 - of course, Dooku being such a talented duelist that he can block a strike from Anakin and Obi-Wan at the same time!
It's kind of fun seeing the same stunt men playing different roles in these vids. In the Palpatine fight, Count Dooku is Mace Windu, and Obi Wan is Palpatine.
