  • Breanna Phillip never wanted to be a psychotherapist. After an awful experience with a therapist in her teens, she wanted to do social work that helped her community.
But over time she saw that many people in the Black community were not accessing therapy for a number of reasons; from shame, issues of faith, and various cultural and historical factors. That in part led her to become a therapist so she could serve her own community and invite them in.
This wide ranging conversation talks about the reasons why many people of color choose not to seek out therapy, as well as tackling questions of how to succeed in capitalism when you start at a disadvantage, and dating.
