Hi. Not sure if you are reading comments anymore, but could you explain how to add a music track in garageband to an audio file. I am using GB to record meditations, and I want to add background music. I like your simple explanations. Thanks.
Hi! Ty for this tutorial! My bf has the m-track 2x2, can i use that to record with 2 mics? If not, how would I go about recording with multiple mics/ headphones?
I've not used the m-track 2x2 before, but it looks like it just has one XLR mic input. If that's the case, you wouldn't be able to record the mics on two separate tracks, but you could get an XLR splitter to plug two mics into one input. Thanks for the info. I'm using a Yeti premium multi-pattern usb microphone and HD300 Sennhesier headphones, my mic picks up everything even the birds chirping outside. Is there a feature in GarageBand that can eliminate background noise?
GarageBand doesn't have a great noise reduction option unfortunately. One thing that could help is to make sure you're using the cardioid polar pattern on your Yeti (the one that looks like a heart). The other polar patterns will pick up more room noise.
Hey! I'm a little late to this video but it's a great job! Thank you. My question is about my friend and I who want to podcast together remotely. Hi! This was very helpful. I have to create a Podcast for one of my Psychology classes, and the professor suggested GarageBand. However, she's also asking for the Podcast script. Do you know how I can get it off of GarageBand? Please!!
GarageBand doesn't have a transcription tool, but you can export your audio and run it through one. I've had good luck with Otter.ai (I believe there is a free trial). I hope that helps!
Thank you for this insightful video! Do we need an external mic for editing because when i record my video podcast i cant have headphones on and cannot use external mic without headphones. Hi!! What do you recommend for podcasts that are virtual and recorded? I’ll be recording the zoom call but wondered if the other ladies on the pod should get microphones as well or if their headphones will work? Do you know how to bring recorded audio to garage band?
Hello! If you are all recording on a regular basis, I recommend everyone have their own microphone. I like the SamsonQ2U as a USB mic. There's also a section about recording online in my free course. The first video is here: ruclips.net/video/4khCDixw5HI/видео.html Once you have the audio files, you would just drag them on to their own track in GarageBand.

Great tutorial. You simplified it for me. I am doing podcasts with music interjected in between voice overs. I have used Audacity and I can really shrink the work board to save all of the scrolling. How do you shrink the files so you and see them all at once on the screen? Thanks.
Thanks, Mitch! I'm glad the video was helpful. In the upper right-hand corner (below the light gray part), there is a slider. When you pull it to the left, it zooms out, and when you slide it to the right it zooms in. I hope that makes sense!
The way that I've done that is to set up everything how I want it, and then save the project and call it "Template." Then when I start a new episode, I open the Template project and Save As a new project. I hope that helps!
Thank you for making this so straightforward. Just one question. With the 2nd microphone channel, I'm presuming that the 2nd person who will be taking part in this demo podcast will be present with you in the same space. How do you record somebody remotely - that is somebody you would like to interview and who is not in the same location (or even the same country)?
Recording a remote guest in GarageBand would require a more complicated setup, but there are some easier ways to record remote guests. One of the modules in my podcast tech course covers some options. That module starts here: ruclips.net/video/4khCDixw5HI/видео.html I hope those videos help!
Thanks! Very clear language, very clear presentation, exactly what I needed. Do you have anything around adding music or integrating another track from another garageband file?
I do using Audacity, which would be a similar process to using GarageBand: ruclips.net/video/F8IH6cRyKao/видео.html That is video is part of the Everything You Need to Know About Podcast Tech course.
@@Helloacx Unfortunately, I'm not sure if there is a simple way to do that in GarageBand. You can add in music after a recording by dragging a music file into a new track. If you want to record music "live to tape," it might be easier to get an audio recorder with an input for you mic and an input for your computer.
If you record your podcast in mono, the same audio will come out of both the left and right speakers. If it's recorded in stereo, the sound that come out of the left and right speakers will be different. I would recommend recording in mono unless you have a specific reason to record in stereo. Mono files are half the size of stereo files, and it will sound balanced in the ears of the listener. It will also sound the same if the listener is only using one earbud, for example. Stereo can be used if you are playing around with sound design. For example, you can make it sound like your speaker is walking across the room by panning their audio from right to left. I hope this helps!
I've never used the Commander M1, so I can't say for sure, but it's possible that it doesn't output separate tracks for each microphone, but instead outputs the stereo mix. Sometimes boards will output one mic on the right channel and the other on the left channel, if that's the case you can record them on one stereo track and then separate them into mono files. Audacity has a simple way to do that and I found a video that explains how to do that here: ruclips.net/video/uMIulxy7luM/видео.html Sorry I don't know the exact issue, but I hope that helps! Good luck!
@@BrandonSlaubaugh-le8on Awesome. On the side of the microphone, make sure you have it set to the cardioid polar pattern. That one looks like a heart. Also, be sure to speak into the side of the microphone with the Yeti logo facing you. Your mouth should be 4-10 inches away from the mic. That should give you a fuller sound!
You would create a new track and import the music file you'd like to use. I don't have a video on adding music in GarageBand, but this one in Audacity uses the same principles. ruclips.net/video/F8IH6cRyKao/видео.html
I'm actually not sure! I always use wired microphones and headphones with podcasting to avoid issues with connectivity during a recording. Sorry I don't have an answer on that one!
Dear sister tell one thing that is this GarageBand DAW in Mac for professional studio music recording ? Can I use it professionally in my studio Pls suggest me soon
Hi Pradeep, You can use GarageBand to record music, but it doesn't have as many tools as some DAWs. I am not an expert in music recording, but I found this article with suggestions: www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-daws-the-best-music-production-software-for-pc-and-mac
In this video, I'm using a USB mic, but either option works. Usually an external mixing board has several outputs, so you just want to be sure to select the one that correlates to the mic you want to use.
The Rodecaster has several outputs including the mixed tracks and individual tracks. Here are the directions on how to set it up so you can record each mic to its own track: cdn1.rode.com/rodecasterpro/Garageband/Mac/RCP_Multitrack_Guidelines_Garageband.pdf
How do you get rid of the hissing/fussiness when talking? I have tried the noise gate and everything, the background noise goes away but there is a fussiness when I talk
It's hard for me to know where the fuzziness is coming from without seeing it, but I found this article that might be helpful in pinpointing what's wrong: www.makeuseof.com/garageband-why-vocals-sound-distorted-how-to-fix/
@@liftpodcasting it’s mostly in the noise gate. I can take it down but then my voice doesn’t pick up or it’s choppy, I turn it up just a little and the fuzziness comes back
@@RadosaImages The noise gate will cut off anything below a certain threshold. So if it's turned up too high, it will cut off your voice causing it to sound choppy, or it won't pick it up at all. It sounds like there is a sound in your room that its picking up, or perhaps there is a buzz in the mic itself. What kind of mic are you using?
Hi I have a 2 QU2 mics that are plugged in via XLR to a COMICA AD3 that then is plugged in to my mac with a headphone jack. Why am I not seeing both mics?
I'm not familiar with the COMICA AD3, but from what I was able to find online, it's likely the audio coming into your computer is the mix of both mics from the one output. One mic is on the left channel and the other is on the right channel. I believe you'll want to be sure the switch on the side is on S for Stereo (not M for Mono). If you want to edit individual tracks, you can try duplicating the track when you're done and pan one track to the left and one to the right. Here's directions on how to pan tracks: support.apple.com/guide/garageband/set-track-pan-positions-gbndf3f2f28c/mac#:~:text=In%20a%20track%20header%20in,it%20to%20the%20center%20position. I haven't used the COMICA AD3 before so I can't promise that will work, but I hope I'm sending you in the right direction!
I would just add for people to save as a template so you don't have to save the settings each time : )
Yes! Great idea.

@@Helloacx Unfortunately, I'm not sure if there is a simple way to do that in GarageBand. You can add in music after a recording by dragging a music file into a new track. If you want to record music "live to tape," it might be easier to get an audio recorder with an input for you mic and an input for your computer.
Difference between recording podcast in stereo vs mono? Benefits? Thank you
If you record your podcast in mono, the same audio will come out of both the left and right speakers.
What do you recommend to give my voice a little “professional” sound? Thank you!
My best recommendation is to get a microphone well suited for podcasting. Look for a dynamic mic with a cardioid polar pattern.
@@liftpodcasting thank you so much for your kind answer. I already have one, and now I am trying to equalize my recordings. Thank you so much!
I followed instructions but I keep hearing both mics on one channel. I’m using the commander m1 by squarock! Can anyone help please
Audacity has a simple way to do that and I found a video that explains how to do that here: ruclips.net/video/uMIulxy7luM/видео.html
Sorry I don't know the exact issue, but I hope that helps! Good luck!
How do I put a taped podcast on garage band to Spotify , RUclips and other podcast sites?
I made a series of three videos that help explain that process. You can start here: ruclips.net/video/IJ0DIwubqGk/видео.html
Hopefully that helps!
Hello! How do I make my voice sound "fuller"? It sounds like I need an additional app or that my voice is missing something? Can you please help?
Hi Brandon! Can you please tell me what microphone you're using?
@@liftpodcasting Hey! I'm using a Yeti Blue Microphone
That should give you a fuller sound!
how you add music to the podcast... thanks in advance
You would create a new track and import the music file you'd like to use. I don't have a video on adding music in GarageBand, but this one in Audacity uses the same principles. ruclips.net/video/F8IH6cRyKao/видео.html
I connected my mic to my laptop yet it it's not recording my voice, am I missing something?
Hmm...it's hard for me to tell without seeing it. What kind of microphone are you using?
Can we use multiple microphones via bluetooth?
I'm actually not sure! I always use wired microphones and headphones with podcasting to avoid issues with connectivity during a recording. Sorry I don't have an answer on that one!
Dear sister tell one thing that
is this GarageBand DAW in Mac for professional studio music recording ?
Can I use it professionally in my studio
Pls suggest me soon
Hi Pradeep, You can use GarageBand to record music, but it doesn't have as many tools as some DAWs. I am not an expert in music recording, but I found this article with suggestions: www.musicradar.com/news/the-best-daws-the-best-music-production-software-for-pc-and-mac
Thank you so much I appreciate
You're welcome! Thank you for watching!
Are you using an external mixing board or a USB mic?
In this video, I'm using a USB mic, but either option works. Usually an external mixing board has several outputs, so you just want to be sure to select the one that correlates to the mic you want to use.
do you plug in headphones to the mic or the computer?
I plug my headphones into the computer! I hope that helps!
What if you are using a mixer console like the Road> It seems to master all the mic tracks into one track
@@liftpodcasting Thanks
Very helpful!
I'm so glad!
