how to save the recording file in mp3?
I'd love to make a video on this in the future! For now, here are the steps: 1. Select "Share" in the menu. 2. Select "Export song to disk" 3. Then you can choose where you want to save the file and be sure MP3 is selected as the file type. 4. Click the "export" button. I hope that helps!
I would just add for people to save as a template so you don't have to save the settings each time : )
Yes! Great idea.
Thank you for this! My audio was filled with echo, and now I'm ready to go!
Awesome! Have fun recording!
Would you recommend Audacity over GarageBand?
I would say to use whichever one you prefer. I like to use GarageBand over Audacity. I chose Audacity for these videos because it's free and available on all computers, so it's more accessible to more people.
Hi!! What do you recommend for podcasts that are virtual and recorded? I’ll be recording the zoom call but wondered if the other ladies on the pod should get microphones as well or if their headphones will work? Do you know how to bring recorded audio to garage band?
Hello! If you are all recording on a regular basis, I recommend everyone have their own microphone. I like the SamsonQ2U as a USB mic. There's also a section about recording online in my free course. The first video is here: ruclips.net/video/4khCDixw5HI/видео.html Once you have the audio files, you would just drag them on to their own track in GarageBand.
Beth, this is quite simply the best podcasting course I've encountered. I'm new to podcasting and so far (thank goodness) have only put up a handful which I now see contain some of the blunders you mention. I'm so pleased to have found your material before pressing on. Your bite-sized presentations will make it so much easier to revisit specific areas rather than having to trawl a single lengthy video. Top marks for pacing and presentation skills.
Wow, thank you so much. I'm so glad it was helpful. Best of luck on your podcasting journey!
Well it took multiple views by me, but when I went into my studio, while keeping this window open to refer back to, I've achieved success so far! I guess this ole brain can still learn! Thanks a million!
Yay! I'm so glad it helped!
very very informative
I'm so glad! Thanks for the kind words!
I connected my mic to my laptop yet it it's not recording my voice, am I missing something?
Hmm...it's hard for me to tell without seeing it. What kind of microphone are you using?
Great video thank you
Thank you for the kind words!
so i have a J5 create multi plug... and ive connected my usb mics into that. and for some reason, even when i switch to a different mic it only picks it up from my first mic.
I don't have a video on this yet, but here is one that I found on how to set up multiple USB mics. I hope that helps! ruclips.net/video/jw5dID426lI/видео.html
Hi. Not sure if you are reading comments anymore, but could you explain how to add a music track in garageband to an audio file. I am using GB to record meditations, and I want to add background music. I like your simple explanations. Thanks.
Thanks for reaching out and for the kind words! I'm actually hoping to make a tutorial on this soon. I'll share the link when its live!
This was soooo simple & helpful, thank you!!
So glad it helped!
Really helpful thank you xx
So glad to help!
thank you! very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for making this so straightforward. Just one question. With the 2nd microphone channel, I'm presuming that the 2nd person who will be taking part in this demo podcast will be present with you in the same space. How do you record somebody remotely - that is somebody you would like to interview and who is not in the same location (or even the same country)?
Recording a remote guest in GarageBand would require a more complicated setup, but there are some easier ways to record remote guests. One of the modules in my podcast tech course covers some options. That module starts here: ruclips.net/video/4khCDixw5HI/видео.html I hope those videos help!
As a beginner podcaster I was a little confused about how to set up Garage Band. Clear and simple explanation, thanks!
I'm so glad it helped! Good luck on your podcasting journey!
How would you import for garageBand?
You can import an audio file by dragging the file from your computer onto the track you want it on. I hope that helps!
Thank you 👍
Glad to help!
Thank for this excellent video. Can you also tell me which software are you using for your screencast? It is really cool!
Thank you! It's called mmhmm: www.mmhmm.app/home
Thank you for your guide. You crushed it !
Thank you! I'm glad it helped!
Thank you for making this short and to the point! Very helpful info!
Glad it was helpful!
This was SO helpful! It really helped me understand the basics to get started. I realize there is a lot more to learn but this video didn't make me feel like I as never going to get it! Really appreciate you taking the time to make this.
I'm so glad! You'll totally get it. One step at a time. Getting started is the hardest part!
How do I put a taped podcast on garage band to Spotify , RUclips and other podcast sites?
I made a series of three videos that help explain that process. You can start here: ruclips.net/video/IJ0DIwubqGk/видео.html Hopefully that helps!
Are you using an external mixing board or a USB mic?
In this video, I'm using a USB mic, but either option works. Usually an external mixing board has several outputs, so you just want to be sure to select the one that correlates to the mic you want to use.
Thank you for this! I needed it. ❤
I'm so glad it was helpful!
thank you
Glad to help!
so helpful thank you!
Yay! I'm so glad!
Hi! This was very helpful. I have to create a Podcast for one of my Psychology classes, and the professor suggested GarageBand. However, she's also asking for the Podcast script. Do you know how I can get it off of GarageBand? Please!!
GarageBand doesn't have a transcription tool, but you can export your audio and run it through one. I've had good luck with Otter.ai (I believe there is a free trial). I hope that helps!
Thanks for the video. Can I just ask a few questions (I'm a novice!!). First, if I want to record a podcast with me and one other person using my MacBook Air (using GarageBand) how do I link two microphones and two sets of headphones to the one laptop to do that? Second question, if I want to intersperse the conversation with playing music from the laptop, will the music just be picked up if I play it through the laptop (e.g. through Spotify) or do I need to import the music some other way? Thanks in advance!
Ask away! You'll likely need an adapter that plugs into your Air and has two USB inputs. You can get a headphone splitter to attach two headphones. Here's a good video on how to get GarageBand to read both microphones: ruclips.net/video/nG6XJMgX4bk/видео.html For music, you'll need to import it as an audio file for the highest quality. You can create a new track and add the music there. I hope that helps!
@@liftpodcasting Thanks for this so much. I've now found a podcast studio near where I live where you can rent the space at a reasonable price. Once I create the audio recording I'll have a raw audio track of an interview I will do. Is it possible in garageband to edit different music into this audio track. Basically I want to play a bit of the audio, then pause and have a song, then resume the audio of the interview, then song, then interview etc without the two ever overlapping... Is there a way to do this on garageband?
@@colincoulter1257 Totally! I would recommend having a track with your speaking parts and creating another track with your music. In this video, I use Audacity, but it would be the same concept: ruclips.net/video/F8IH6cRyKao/видео.html You would just make sure they don't overlap on the timeline. I hope this is helpful. It's difficult to answer in a comment, but I'm hoping to create a course on editing in GarageBand soon!
helpful, thanks and I have subscribed, so excited for my new podcast journey
Yay! I'm excited for you too!
super helpful!
I'm so glad!
Thanks for the info. I'm using a Yeti premium multi-pattern usb microphone and HD300 Sennhesier headphones, my mic picks up everything even the birds chirping outside. Is there a feature in GarageBand that can eliminate background noise?
GarageBand doesn't have a great noise reduction option unfortunately. One thing that could help is to make sure you're using the cardioid polar pattern on your Yeti (the one that looks like a heart). The other polar patterns will pick up more room noise.
You made this really easy and simple to follow, thank you!
Thank you!
I have never used Garageband. Watching this video helped get me started. You are very good at teaching and have a new subscriber.
Thank you for the kind words! I'm so glad it was helpful!
All in all, a useless "instructional" video. All she has done is tell us which buttons to push. Most of that is intuitive already: taken care of in the programming. "Click the dropdown; click on your microphone, and that's that." No word on how to get your device into the dropdown, or what to do if your device doesn't appear in the dropdown. In other words: no information on how to operate the software, just how to click buttons provided.
Thanks for your feedback! Sorry this video didn't answer your questions. Typically your mic should appear in the dropdown once it's plugged in. Sometimes it doesn't appear due to security settings on your mac. Here's a good video on how to fix that: ruclips.net/video/9uEAmNO0mhE/видео.html This is a great tutorial if you're trying to record with two USB mics and if you're only seeing one in the dropdown: ruclips.net/video/nG6XJMgX4bk/видео.html I hope that resolves the issue!
Thank you
You're welcome! Glad to help!
Thank you so much for this! Yours was one of the first videos I watched when I was thinking of starting a channel and I've used your method to boot up garageband ever since! I always come back to this to double check im still doing it right
Oh my gosh! I'm so glad to hear it is so helpful.
You young lady are a star! Any idea how to add a camera?
Thank you! Are you hoping to record video? In that case, I would recommend using iMovie instead of GarageBand.
Omg thank you so much !
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful!
Great explanation. I've seen quite a few of those recently but this is right at the top. You've got a subscriber;
Thank you! I’m so glad the video helped!
thanks that was so helpful. thank you for your time. How can i save this as a preset so i do not repeat these steps every time
I'm so glad it helped! I saved mine as a file called "Podcast Template," then I open it as Save As a new file when I create a new episode.
Thank you SO MUCH for this short but concise tutorial! Super useful! Do you have tips for editing and exporting?
I'm so glad it was helpful! I created a free online course where I talk about editing in Audacity. I don't have anything created for Garageband unfortunately, but I hope to in the future. Here are the editing videos: ruclips.net/video/YCi5fhsnaUk/видео.html And here's a blog post that might be helpful: liftpodcasting.com/free-resources/exporting-your-podcast
Can we use multiple microphones via bluetooth?
I'm actually not sure! I always use wired microphones and headphones with podcasting to avoid issues with connectivity during a recording. Sorry I don't have an answer on that one!
So crisp and effective! Really helped. Thank you!
Yay! So glad it helped.
Thank you so incredibly much for making that such an easy to follow tutorial!!! ❤
Thank you for your kind words!
I recorded a voice as you showed, but I was able to hear it just with the headset. Without a headset, I couldn't hear anything. Could you please explain how to fix this issue?
My guess is that you need to switch the output on GarageBand. In the menu go to GarageBand>Settings. Then click on the Audio/MIDI tab at the top. Under Devices, change your Output Device to your computer's speakers. Hopefully that helps!
Great tutorial 👍
Thank you so much!
Thank you for this easy to follow video!
Glad it was easy to follow!
