  • The discovery of these Monk Seal Skulls have changed the course of evolutionary history. A short snippet of two incredible seal skulls I have found. With thanks and reference to the Royal Society for their research and work in publishing such an informative report.

    "It was previously thought that seal species evolved in the North Atlantic. The Monk Seal being exclusively northern and (sub)tropical throughout their entire history. The discovery and description of this new species of Monk Seal from the Pliocene of New Zealand, is the first of its kind from the Southern Hemisphere. This forces a profound revision of their evolutionary history.."

    Impressive!! I wish I lived somewhere you can find fossils like that. Alas, not much to find in my area of Denmark. Some great finds you got :D

    That's awesome and great production too. How much variation is there in seal populations? This one seemed to have a thinner, longer nose, and larger "cheeks" are those zygomas? Not sure on seal skull anatomy. Cool never the less.

      He’s a fossil hunter not Steven Spielberg. Picking up rocks and filming at the same time can’t be too easy. I’m here to see fossils not enjoy a movie
