Huge windows + low beltline = incredible visibility
Wish this was a thing in modern cars
Totally agree. Even the windows of newer range rovers are getting narrower.
Have you seen the new Oshkosh USPS mail truck? look it up
Subaru Forester?
@@yellofury Foresters are great for the 6 foot+ crowd. The back seats are roomy too
The price you pay for side impact protection
Truly a transporter of Gods.
So that explains why he never answers my prayers poor guy is always in the shop😆
The GOLDEN GOD who is untethered and who's rage knows no bounds
This is a finisher car.
Bwahaha 🤣😂
Even in 2023, this car still runs smoothly. Love this.
Not without lots of TLC. My boss (1990) had one...he bought it as a status symbol. It spent more time in the shop than on the road 😂 His beautiful 1983 Jeep SJ Wagoneer made plenty of appearances at work (the steakhouse he owned) because the Range Rover was a temperamental little beast. I'm sure that the hot, arid climate of West Texas didn't do it any favors...
I love it! That dash is quintessential 80s. Thanks for the ride, man.
12:18 That's a thing i am always wondering with car manufacturers of today: Back then the narrow pilars were weak, but with modern technology and modern materials they probably could build cars with the visibility of the past that are actually safe in crashes. But they don't, for whatever reason.
Curtain airbags are a factor
@@matthewbelenis217 Interesting point!
The ones in my cars are in the roof, just the propelling charges are in the pilars. If they move them into the roof too it could work.
My mom had one of the original ones, it was something like #13 sold in North America. I learned to drive (in part) on this thing, and we used to drive all over Forest Service roads with it. It seemed like there was nothing it couldn't do off-road. My parents kept it and my dad kept trying to get it restored until he died in 2017 and it was given to a family friend. This is the most nostalgic possible vehicle for me.
Pretty crazy to see how dashes have changed over the decades
Will always enjoy a Tedward driving video. The roads back East are weird, not to mention narrow. lol
But yes, this is the best color for this nostalgic beast.
What a machine. Every time you post a video driving a Land Rover, I want a Land Rover. They're such a completely different driving experience to my MINI.
Oh god. My uncle used to have one of these. I remember accidentally breaking one of the window regulators. AND the engine always kept overheating. He owned it for 6 months 😂.
I used to have a 1982 3 door Range Rover and it's amazing to see how much more refined they got in the 6 years between mine and this one. To this day it remains the only car I have ever regretted selling.
I like how the thumbnail shows every light on the dash
Looks really relaxing to drive that old beast 👌
This is a car you'd probably get from most kids if you asked them to paint an offroad truck. I really adore the simplicity, plenty of glass and tons of visibility of it. Very good looking outside spec, probably begs to get dirty but also looks so fine when clean.
I like how most of the drive was silent, because this is how I would describe this car. Is there anything special about it? No. Is it a good car? Maybe. Is it a pleasure to drive? I don't know, maybe. Is it a pleasure to be around one? Absolutely. It's giving a vibe of that good friend with whom you can just relax & cruise around on Saturday night in complete silence and not feel awkward about it, just enjoying a relaxing time and each other's presence.
Beautiful car
Ahhh, the old Buick Wildcat V8...well, British Leyland Roverized 😂 interesting tidbit, this engine and the Buick 3.8 V6 (which became the legendary, indestructible GM 3800) were developed at the same time, and shared many internal parts. GM sold the V8 to Rover, tooling and all, and the Fireball V6, tooling and all, to Kaiser-Willys (maker of the Jeeps before AMC). When AMC took over Jeep, they replaced the Fireball V6 with AMC straight 6's, and set the tooling aside. GM later bought it back, specifically for the 1978 Buick Regal, which turned out to be perfect timing, as we had a gas crisis in 1979! (I remember my sister and I pushing my dad's '79 Buick Regal through the gas line when it ran out of gas while we were waiting in line 😂). It went into several other GM G-body vehicles around the same time...
I've had an '01 Discovery for the past 18 years. Bought it in '06 with 50k miles on it when shopping for a VW TDI. I saw it and thought that's what I want. Pretty much the same chassis and running gear as this Range Rover with different body. Disco was the last LR model to use the old Rover pushrod V8 and solid axles. It's never left me stranded, always got me home.
i would love a video in this car thats like a couple hours long of just cruising
The sunny reference had me rollin
I hear the viscous fan is playing its song again.
Such a beautiful east coast cruiser for the Fall. Postcard material.
Really a predecessor of the modern take on a luxury SUV. Definitely NOT a starter car, unless one is loaded enough to afford the repairs and have another car to use on the side while it is in the shop 😂
This is a unbelievably good looking classic Range Rover
I've driven one in the past. Lots of body roll but drives like a magic carpet over bumps and potholes.
The fact it's that slow, heavy, with bad brakes and zero passive safety whatsoever, it really makes you avoid any road rage imaginable... 😅😅😅
Classy retro SUV from before SUV/crossovers had completely saturated the market. Would be fun to own one of these if I was rich and had the garage space.
That's still the definitive RR.
Awesome Always Sunny reference 😄
I am 5'8" Driving up that high would be great. I have gone to so many concerts at clubs and there is always someone 6'2" in front of me!
Dennis would be proud
That dashboard is so 90s! This is a perfect Radwood car, assuming that it makes it through the event without any reliability-related situations. Which, let's face it, for a Land Rover, that's a tough task.
This along with an 80 series land cruiser are the cars i'll have if i ever owned a house in the mountains on the west coast
I love these old rangies.
They are very slow, steering very vague. Appeal is purely nostalgic. Dont take my word, drive one if you can find one still running.
I'm here spitting out my pizza at the Philly reference, take your damn like lol.
Pretty as a button, love your videos on older cars!
Color matched wheels for the win!
2:38 Jaguar used that chime starting in 93 until 03 for their. XJ sedans
Request: 1988 OBS Chevy truck at night to see the retro gauges. Please 🙏🏼
now drive a 1998 model, same feel but much more timeless design
Old suvs, so much glass, love you can see
So nice
Rick Astley in the cassette player?
Cool!
beautiful car
Transmission sounds like a classic air raid siren.
It's not a starter car. That is a finisher car 😂
Everytime see ones of these always think of the Essex boys
Hey Tedward! Any plans on driving some mini coopers? A good condition R53 with a cold air intake would be an awesome feature, the supercharger whine is intoxicating and surprising for a lil car.
Golden God's vehicle
So neat
ماشاءالله سيارة مرتبة محافظ عليها
It is so handsome. My husband threatens divorce if I get one. Afraid he will spend the rest of his life working on it.😂😂😂
He should reframe this argument like "I could spend a lot more time with you if we didn't have a failing pile of shit to fix all the time"
@@TedwardDrives Haha!
Why would someone sale that? It looks likes it is just gliding over the roads. Sweet!
Automatic gearboxes have come on a long way since 1988. Oof.
Wow both manual and automatic ❤
No that’s for 4x4
The animals in the background are louder than you 😂
Summer vibes in New England...all those bugs trying to attract mates lol
@TedwardDrives aren't we all... 😂
Have you worked out how to adjust the height on the front seats since your last video or would you like me to tell you?
The internet loves a good "my Range Rover is worse than yours story" but this one seems to be running fine and out of all the people I know with a RR in one form or another and it's at least 5 the only complaint I hear is the automatic gearboxes in the new ones are crap.
I want this beauty.
"They say about 100% Range Rovers goes off road all the time,
Only 10% made it back home"
Chariot of the Gods. The Golden God!
Please, try the other versions 3,9 and 4,2 if you can
Sounds like it needs a new fan clutch. Otherwise, a very clean classic rover.
the golden god's car
How can you have a 40th Anniversary RR made in 1988 they were now around in 1948
Please drive a 2003 L322
Does it have air intake valves?
Ah it's the Transporter of Gods (Always Sunny fans will know what I'm talking about)
It's definitely not a starter car.
can see a lot of the l322 in this car. not so much the l405 or l460. shame.
A golden god would drive this car.
Is this a California car? San Jose LR is not to far from me
Hmmm. 3.5 litre was carbureted 3.9 was fuel injected. That’s a fuel injected car
I think 80’s dashboards are hideous. There’s no flow or elegance put into the design of something you will always be staring at as long as you own the car.
FIRST!
This is a museum car. That V8 engine is very thirsty and polluting.
This is offroad car, driving on road looks boring...
car
It sounds like a CVT !!
You are a kaleidoscope of emotions!🍭
