Richard, I also think you should get the Dali Rubicon 6 and save the rest for Hawaii!

I am agree in many things in this review. I have own Callisto 6C and I was very impressed, and now Rubicon 6C. The active amplifier is made by Hypex.

Hello Kim. Thanks for the comment. Is this true? I can't see anything on the Dali website that says the amplifier is a Hypex model? If it is, it's probably brilliant then!

@@propercushty Peter Lyngdorf, Dali and Nad are in relation. Peter Lyngdorf with Purifi and Eigentakt. You can read between the lines it is Hypex Class D with N-core in Dalí active loudspeakers. More to come with Dali and Nad with new models from Purifi Eigentakt design. @@kim-andremoen2137 Ahhh that's very interesting. They are very popular Class D amplifiers (and so are the ICE ones based on B&O design).
Now, I'm wondering if it is the latest Hypex nCore model that Dali have used in the Callisto..because the nCore amplifier really changed the game for Class D

@@propercushty I cańt really not confirm with 100% accuracy. But I Can conclude that Dali with substantially preamp like NAD m33 as only preamp as I own, i have never heard Rubicon sound this good. I am very impressed. Now I have 2x Isotek Sigma’s with Syncro II, NAD M33, B&W DB2D, hooked up with WireWorld Silver Electra 7 power cords and Wire World Gold Eclipse 8 signal cables to all my active speakers. I Cańt believe the sound quality i have manage to get. I can play everything

What about Rubicon 5? I can get a pair of 5 for $2200 recently. For similar room, is it a good fit and good deal? Thanks

Great Work, Keep it up...Blessings !!! Which Hegel Integrated amplifier would you recommend ? H390 or H590? I am open to any other suggestions, Class D amplifiers? Thanks.

    • @propercushty
      @propercushty  3 года назад

Both of those are absolute BEASTS and can EASILY (and cleanly) power the Rubicon 6. I believe the h390 is about half the price of the h590 - so I think the better value is with the 390. You'll get similar results with both amplifiers - it's diminishing returns in this game..
In the video I recommended trying one of the new Hypex 'nCore' Class D power amplifiers. The Hegel ones are Class A/B which are historically more for audiophiles (with Class A leading the pack but they're ridiculous in size and power draw, and they cost so, so much.... so not many people consider Class A these days.
Class D amplifiers have historically been used in high power/high efficiency applications e.g. subwoofers and large speakers. They weren't thought of as audiophile quality until a few years ago..
But with modern Class D technologies from Hypex and ICE (Bang & Olufsen tech), you get much more power and fidelity from Class D's. They cost less, are much lower on power draw, emit less heat and are far smaller (and weigh less). I can confirm that the bass output from these modern Class D's are light years ahead of similarly priced Class A/Bs.
The model I have got is the Hypex nCore nc252. The control this amplifier has over the bass is better than 99% of the amplifiers out there..I am pretty certain of that. You can buy Hypex designs from Nord and a few other companies on the net..
I will say your Hegel is a different story though, because that is a very powerful and expensive A/B amplifier. That produces wonders..but..
..The only way to know for sure in this game is to try both for yourself. If you do like Hypex nCore, I can safely say you'd save about 3.5k! However, with the Hypex, you would need a separate pre-amplifier which is another thing to consider.
Either way, you can't go wrong. You have some great options there...personally, with your budget I would be craving, craving, craving the Dali Epicons because they look so fantastic. I'd say they're about 10-20% better than the Rubicons in terms of sound quality; so naturally, the Rubicons are better value.
      Hope this helps Richard!

@@richarddegannes2928 Hi Richard. Sure I can. Here are two integrated Hypex amplifiers that have everything in-buit.
      -----
      *Buchardt Audio I150 Integrated Amplifier*
      www.buchardtaudio.com/shop/i150
This Buchardt has pretty much everything you would want to get going - it includes the pre-amp, the ESS Sabre 9028 DAC, Bluetooth and the like
      -----
*Another option is the Nord range of Integrated Amplifiers*
      www.nordacoustics.co.uk/nord-one-int-a-integrated-amplifier
I think the Nord ones are more basic in terms of the electronics they bundle inside. They have the pre-amp and power amp and that's it. So you'd need a DAC unless you already have one
