  • Labor Day weekend ... spent doing what we do best! Baling and putting up Hay. We baled roughly 320 Big Squares in three days. The Baler was throwing some fits that caused a little bit of frustration and time spent back at the shop.
    But all ends well! The hay got baled and we spent all Monday hauling it in to nearly fill half the new barn (50x75x19’)

    Been raining here in Iowa for about 3 straight days so I say the dry spell is over for awhile. Look at the great memories being made with the kiddos. Sounds like another great crop of hay.

      It’s a Blue Heeler - we have a Female (Sky) and A Male (Ryder, who typically goes along with us) that are working cattle stock ... but we also have Mini Aussies that are our “house pups”.

      @@ChroniclesofKayla Thought so...and they be super intelligent dogs too. I have a friend in Australia who told me those cattle dogs resulted from a guy cross breeding the Aussie dingo with the English cattle dog way back in the day. I've yet to see a Red Aussie cattle dog state side. My neighbor has two Blue Heeler's as pets. Thanks for the reply.

    Lots of hay in a race to beat the rain, hay looking good. When taking how wide of an area do you cover, and do you straddle a wind row or drive over them? Tagging along with you!😎😎

    Hope every thing goes better also the equipment stays working. Now I'm only asking I seen a guy do this in Canada only one person on beef cows with the nasty bad flys he said he mixed a little of diesel fuel in with a fly spray and instantly no flys dont know if u have seen or heard of any one doing this to get the cows releaf. It is great your new barn is done and your liking it now, have a great day.

    Wouldn’t racking and baling done at the same time with one tracker be more efficient?

    • @ChroniclesofKayla
      @ChroniclesofKayla  3 года назад

      For some - but not very often do we get to rake and follow with the baler - most of the time we need to rake it - let it air. Then bale in an hour or two - when we large square bale it’s a little different.

    When you do baling right behind the rake,i take it the hay doesn't need anymore drying time?i,m so used when i grew up on the farm i would rake hay late morning and then we wouldn't bale it until after lunch.

    • @ChroniclesofKayla
      @ChroniclesofKayla  4 года назад

      Right!! The hays ready to go!! Low moisture high temp days we can be ready to go right after lunch - not very often can I Small Square Bale right behind the rake like you can on his Big Square.

      2019 - 42,000 ( with the help of 2 hired hands and additional 130 acres)
      2020 - not quite 29000 .... and we cut out that 130 acres and didn’t have all of second cut hay we typically do .:: and no hired hands.

    Two kids that young should not be riding that tractor alone! All it would take is the blink of a eye... Neither one knows the potential for danger... Wow! That takes my breath away! I saw a little boy killed when I was 12... he fell off the tractor and was run over before it could be stopped...

      @@rickhammer2374You miss my point!!
      I've been around farming most of my life "I'm 76", but I don't do stupid things!! As a parent you have the responsibility to protect your kids from situations they don't know enough about... so because of your ignorant attitude you visit them in the hospital or you bury them... are you then gonna say... "Well I guess you learned not to do that again"... There may not ever be another again!! I knew a "father" 40 years ago who gave is 6 year old boy a pocket knife and say to go out and play... Taught him NOTHING about the danger of that little knife... That boy, ran across the yard in the back of the house, and never came back!! Now, do you really what to talk about your stupid comment? It's hard enough to be safe and careful when you're adult... much less when your a kid and know nothing about the dangerous things in life!!
