Incredible balance and great riding skills! Slow is where it is at. Like I have heard people say "if you can manage the slow speed stuff, everything else is easy!"
Very impressive skills, and wonderful drone work to capture it all! I’m 67 years old, recently acquired a V-Star 1100 and every time I go out, I’m doing at least 10 minutes of practice drills before I hit the road. I know this will make me a safer rider. And I’m having a blast becoming the master of my machine!

*We had two motorcycle police guide a funeral procession and they lead us through heavy rain and down embankments to avoid traffic jams. Their feet only touch the ground for complete stops. The skill that these guys exhibited (what you teach officers) is legendary.*

Much respect for those mad skills. Have Jerry Palladino's "Ride Like a Pro" videos for us civilians and my problem is finding a good location to practice in my small town. Been run off a few parking lots as well. Would like to know about when to look to replace the clutch plates if practicing like that.
I just started my law enforcement motorcycle certification course and it is kicking my ass. The veteran riders make things look easy but I have a new found respect for the time, patience and determination that has brought LE riders to that level of expertise. Motorcycle cops really are second to none in skill.
I’ve been riding for 42 years and that was impressive. Good video!
Incredible riding, sir! I like how you left the audio in so we could hear the engine, clutch work, scrapes, etc. I think I could do this course on my dirt bike, but I know for a fact it would eat my lunch on the road glide.

You must spend a bit of time tuning the course. How many times you ride it yourself before you let anyone else see you? There has to be some pressure to outperform your students.
Hi Ryan, how often does the department have to replace the clutches on your police bikes? It looks like they take a real beating.

Your course has more cone drills than mine. Ours is a mix of cone drills and wide open speed in between. It’s kind of like dancing one second and then transitioning to a full blown sprint in the next.

I need a whole lot of practice to do this on my 1998 GL1500 SE Goldwing.
Of course I'd have to buy one of the heaviest motorcycles on the road today but i love this bike.
But, also i am 70 years young do have some issues turning this bike in tight places. But
As you mention , just need to keep riding and practicing

I would like to transition to our department's motor unit once I'm done with my stint in patrol. Our department's acting motor unit sergeant also said that the motor officer course is very challenging. Now I'm nervous. I haven't ridden in almost 20 years. And even back then it was a 250 cc baby bike. I'll probably need to retake the MSF basic riders course and also the advance riders course before I even put in my request to transfer.

Ryan, great video but on a different note can I ask you a question about comfortable riding? After riding the next day my knee joints ache like hell. What am I doing wrong and what can I do to correct it? We're riding to the mackinaw bridge next weekend and over into the UP. About 41/2 hr ride. Keep the videos coming
I have never owned a car over 50 and still can do steering lock turns and balance on spot a good minute. Judo was the best sport for motorcycle ability and road bikes. 1 ticket in 38 years.

Does your department provide the certification through its own training program? Or is each instructor certified through NorthWestern, as an example, a third party certification?
Wow! How the hell do you balance the bike when at a full stop? I'd really like to know the techniques to practice to do that.
Its relatively easy depending on your balance sense. He was not at full stop he was moving forward veeery slow but moving anyway, he leaned the bike to the left a tiny little bit so when he move that tiny little bit forward the bike keeps that little amount of tilt and not falling over. You can practice that with a bicycle, dont worry about the weight because the principle is the same
@@gabrieljordan9977 yeah. If I am honest, bicycles are harder cause they are way more sensitive to center of gravity change

Loved this video! I taught the Ont Prov Police 🇨🇦 3 week course for several years many moons ago.. It's all about practice, practice, practice. Remember the solo saddle on the H-Ds are different then the civilian models, giving your butt more ability to move around to get set for tight turns. It never hurts to have a machine that you're not afraid to drop, ‘cause it's not yours to repair 😀. Thanks Ryan for a great intro to the job at hand.

Sucks that practicing in parking lots is loitering in CA. Hard to find anywhere
I’ve recently started my own rider training course after attending Northwest Motorcycle School. I watch as many of you veteran slow pattern riders as I can to increase my knowledge so I can pass it onto those who choose to learn from me in Columbus Ohio. Thank you for the great content/footage.

Hi Ryan. I have a question for you. I noticed your head and eye movement or just the head doesn’t move until later into the turn. Why is this. As everyone else teaches. Head eyes before the turn. Also where are you located. I want to run this course on my road glide. Limited with a motorman like your self. You are very smooth comparing to others I’ve seen.
Get a different drone pilot. I am trying to study your technique but the camera is spinning in circles.

Driving through cones is cool, but what if someone is trying to take you off you ride? ... or worse, shooting at you, What do you do? Maybe there are multiple people wanting to make you crash... I have been riding before Ron Regan was President, teach me something...
We practice all that too and more. We actually shoot from our motorcycles. We have much training beyond cone patterns. Ride safe.

Off topic question but feel like with your experience you could give me an appropriate answer. What RPM do you cruise at? I use to be a 2,500-2,800 guy. Was told by others that was too low, so now I cruise at 3k-3,200 rpm. 2014 street glide. Thanks and stay safe

I have been riding since I was a kid then got married started a family and gave it up for a few years but my wife noticed how much I missed it so she encouraged me to get back into it. That was 23 years ago, I'm now 54, have 4 bikes but my favorite is my 2010 CVO Street Glide. About 6 years ago I heard a group of bikes coming up my street and it was 8 Electra Glides in formation and noticed they were officers so I watched them parade by and figured they were training. The next week same day as last week and about the same time they rode by this happened for a few weeks in a row and never gave it much thought. Well I was out riding on a Thursday the same day I would see the officers on my street practicing and saw a parking lot at one of our parks full of cones similar to your course and thought I'd go over and check it out. I was slow rolling around the course staying away from it and I heard several bikes approaching and it was a group of cops. They came into the lot, saw me and nodded then they all parked. I rode over to them and asked what were the cones for, every single one of them smiled at me and said show him. The trainer zipped to each course and then worked his magic. I was blown away and they explained it to me and said I was more than welcome to stay and watch, and I did. The trainer was explaining every move to me that his guys were making and why then he asked me if I had ever heard of the motorcycle rodeo and of course I didn't so he told me to check out a RUclips channel and it was him doing competitions. He did the 360 and was timed at 3 minutes give or take and it blew me away. So I looked for them on Thursdays when I could to see if I could watch and they were Greta about allowing me to watch them practice. One officer said go try it, I did a couple of easy skills nd they saw that I could ride but I was nowhere near their capabilities, so,they gave me several pointers and I was grateful of course and they said to come back when I could since they were out most every Thursday, so I did and when they were done They let me run the course, they all taught me alot and were happy to do so. Every basic skill they showed me, like shifting my weight, moving forward etc...has always been used before I met these guys but they showed me how to use it to work the bike aggressively or to finesse it. Every Light that I am stopped today, I am forward, working the clutch, throttle, bars and brakes trying to make the whole light without my feet touching the ground, or working tight 8's in a parking lot slowly just to do it. Mu police department made me a better rider and they didn't have too butnwenall had 1 thing in common and that was our bikes.
I think the training officers name was Danny something (I am terrible with names) but he was with the McKinney Texas Police Department and may still be. Every McKinney m/c officer I pass looks waves and smiles and they get it back, they don't know me but they are always the ones that seem to enjoy what they do. Stay safe and you got a new subscriber!

Pretty simple when once you trust the bike won’t fall over as long as it’s moving. That’s all it took for me. Been riding for 2 years and I’ve got it down on my own

Just have to comment, Ryan. Thank you for inviting "civilians" to practice wherever and whenever they can. Eventually, maybe peer pressure will get to all of us and we'll all be better and safer riders for it. Thousands of people will see this video. I'd like to offer free coaching at DHOG Motorcycle Skills. We practice every Monday night in the parking lot adjacent to the Dallas Harley Davidson dealership; using some loose patterns like an 18' Coneweave and a 12' Slow Cone Weave and progressing up to the "Offset Coneweave". We also set up "The Button" and The Big O" for our more advanced riders.
We have a decent following of riders that show up and practice consistently. They've become some of the most skilled riders of the HOG chapter. It's fee to any motorcyclist that wants to gain skills. Parking lot skills transfer directly to street skills. We try to help coach good habits to replace bad habits.

Cool to watch but not real world in application. That’s the thing. Train for real world. Being able to do a handstand doesn’t need you will ever have to. Show me a rear wheel slide out recovery in wet slippery city conditions. That’s realistic in rider preparedness. There is no remote reason to use most of these maneuvers. I’m impressed none the less.
You are incorrect on that. After practicing these skills we take the new motor officers out on the street and they quickly realize they use each of those skills in their daily duties. Within minutes on the street it all becomes clear. Until you've done it in person, it's hard to understand how we work and what we need to do as Motor Officers. We also do high speed drills, emergency high speed braking, high speed cone weaves and a whole bunch more. A Motor Officer will use every single skill we teach them on that slow course. Ride safe.
Ryan, I enjoy low speed practice on my Electraglide too but the personal owner always has to keep the cost in mind of clutch and rear brake replacement.
Yah, I do drills on my personal bikes too. They last pretty long really.

Yes. 2:35. 10 sec penalty for even touching a cone. DQ for foot down, bike down, or blown pattern.

We do a snowman all the time in training. There are hundreds of patterns and you have to narrow it down for a “qualification” course. Then in training do other patterns etc. And tighten things up. Do them backwards etc.
@@RyanUrlacher cool. Do you have the schematics for your courses? Lastly, do you allow the students to use rear brake or only friction zone? Also is your agency keeping HDs or are they talking about going to BMWs?

There's an upcoming event in late September in Reno, NV (Street Vibrations) where they have a contest to see how slow you can go before you tap out with your foot.
