I love how coy Tim plays it whenever the judges mention his range. Like I can't help but feel like he's just sitting there thinking "oh just wait until next time." With that little self assured smile.
Watch Home Free's "All About That Bass (The Outtake Video)," as found on their Facebook page or at RUclips's /watch?v=laTYYEhjy8U, and see for yourself. Some of these guys really CAN dance . . . um, er, not all of them, of course. LOL :-)
Say what you will about the bass being tough, the drummer being spot on and the lead being exceptional. That is surely true, BUT; The dude with the beard, singing the high harmony, is the main one who gives them their distinct sound. I am surprised the judges haven't noticed or mentioned that.
@@jonashammond498 I'm sorry, Rob is one of my favorites, and I love his sense of humor. He's like a cute little teddy bear with the voice of an angel. He's constantly cracking me up, they all are.
My favourite group this season. They're REALLY good. It's funny how this is an acapella show and the groups with less people are the ones taking acapella to it's maximum level. Home Free ftw
I was thinking the same thing. I think it's because groups that have 8 or more singers try too hard and have so many different harmonies when they aren't needed.
I love that she says, "Ya'll need to learn how to dance!" Chris started the swing dance club at my alma mater, and still dances to this day, so help me. Hahaha!
Jewel's comments were right on: this was a great example of "how to build a band", and it highlighted each of the five component members (the bass singer is great, but it's the full sound of all five, pitch-perfect, that makes it work): Austin has the voice (and looks) to be a 'star' (in any kind of singing, musical theater production, etc.), and, with each guy having a great range, they are able to build up a huge, well-blended group sound (w/plenty of baritone, plus 'drummer'). That they make it look and sound so easy masks how difficult it is to get that pitch-perfect blend (I keep harping on pitch because I'm a musician and I love it when singers or instrumentalists working together really lock in the pitch and harmonies -- doesn't happen all that often). Plus, it's a great arrangement (another testament to their talent, since most of them are song-writers & arrangers, not just singers; and they make their own arrangements). Well done!
Tim and Avi are both GODS, but you know, the thing Pentatonix missed during the Sing Off was really highlighting the plain and simple fact that the ladies love the basses!
Matilda Wilson I couldn't agree more! I think PTX were mainly focused on getting their stuff down and introducing a new style that had never been done before, so Avi (being 1/2 of the necessary Meat & Potatoes) was too preoccupied with covering the bass to sing low solo stuff. It wasn't in their arrangements, it wasn't their style on the Sing-Off.
Matilda Wilson Country is also pretty bass-baritone heavy in the industry, so a bass solo isn't so out of the ordinary, whereas when Pentatonix was doing Pop/Electronic music which is primarily focused on tenors/altos. The melody at any given moment would go to one of the trio singers.
I'm sure most basses participating in the Sing-off were talented, but it seemed only Tim was showing it off. Most others just stood in the back as background harmonies
I never heard of Home Free before today. I saw Fhilharmonic in another video and then and came across Home Free in the Face Off round today. I was thinking "God another country group." But they are fricken amazing! I think it's safe to say I'm obsessed. ;)
+Tammi Sprau Have you subscribed to their channel yet? Home Free has a great variety of fabulous musical videos, including original songs, covers, remixes, medleys, etc. (And, yeah, we're all pretty much obsessed, too!)
+Tammi Sprau I knew about them from a friend who is from the same home town as Tim, and I have to two concerts when they came to my town and have their Ycds. Love their youtube channel.
This song is what put my heart in a three way split between Tim, Austin, and Adam. God all three of them are so gorgeous and so talented and I love it.
Calle Sol - Displaying good sportmanship for helping out their rivals, plus they got a few extra seconds of airtime. How does Home Free sound like a full orchestra with just 5 guys? The "fullness" of their sound remind me of Pentatonix.
I don't know if that's the reason, but to me their drum and bass stand out just like Avi and Kevin did on their season, and their harmonies are pretty good too.
PTX's most recent stuff sounds very "full." Go back about a year and you can tell they didn't know how to fill the massive sound gap between Scott and Avi. Recently though, you can tell they have it figured out and they sound great because of it
They got blown away by Pentatonix last year. They learned and now they are blowing others out of their way....I am here in 2019 and Pentatonix is still blowing every one away, unfortunately without Avi...Home Free, even though they are country are on my list to listen to
They don't need dance moves to be good; they are all talent. Sean is right, they are consistent and they do have all of the parts to be an a capella group. A lot of groups could learn from Home Free.
I love how Calle Sol taught them moves!! So sweet and wholesome and helpful, sharing knowledge and talent with competitors. This was a great show 🥰 "Tim's the only one singing this low." "Oh, honey, just wait." 😂
Love these guys, can't wait to see them in a few weeks, but how did nobody not know that Tom Cochrane wrote this song when the Sing Off was on the air?
I was listening to this on my phone and felt the bass! Wow wow wow! Love what I'm hearing! Maybe I'll make it to Algonquin show in Ontario! Fingers crossed
***** I agree, it's in C#, therefore its dominant is a G#. My mistake, I just hit the note on my piano and wrote what it was without thinking about the key. 😅 Plus, I also have to say that it is less impressive now that I've heard lower notes from him and... that now I can sing it too! 😆
I'm way behind on the times, but very glad I can catchup every once in a while. It's amazing seeing how talented others are...and their wonderful personalities make it all the more enjoyable...oh, and the judges critiques and comments are just as entertaining. It's a great show. Hope it and others like it continue to enspire other talented individuals to come out and share their talents with the world.
Thanks for all your Sing Off postings since I can't see it in Asia. Really enjoying Home Free's solid performances. I also like seeing how the groups interact and help each other out, here and also in Street Corner Symphony's video with the girl from Vocal Rush. Having heard and read comments from groups in previous seasons talk about being at a music camp for singing geeks, it's nice to see moments like that.
I believe Chris LeDoux did it first and then Rascal Flatts did it and now Hine free did it. but Chris LeDoux was much better than Rascal Flatts, Rascal Flatts butchered it in comparison. (Go youtube Chris's, you will agree).
For all Canadians out there Life is a Highway was originally done by Tom Cochrane not Rascall Flatts. Allthough they do a fantastic version of Cochrane's original. Rascall Flatts version was on the movie "Cars" which came far after the song's original release date in 1992.
I went to a Don't it Feel Good concert with a friend, and she commented on the choreography, which was Home Free's weakness on the Sing Off. This is a good performance, but Home Free has gotten a lot better. Go see a live performance if you get the opportunity. We had so much fun!
I'm not so sure the guys didn't know how to dance before the Sing Off. I think they just never incorporated dancing in their routine. They do now though and I personally love it!
It's actually Rupp..... and you should check out his drum solo videos from their concerts..... there isn't a sound the man can recreate....that's why we Home Fries call him "The Freak of Nature!"
Yep, just a bit of extra drama/theatre for the show. Austin had to dance in theatre numbers so he was not unschooled, Adam Rupp is clearly good enough to mimic Michael Jackson moves and Tim loves to boogie. So yeah, they could already dance better than the show wanted you to know.
Random thoughts of a new Home Fry: Has anyone who was part of the sing off watched Home Free Never Gonna Give You Up? The dancing with Adam and Tim is my favorite part! 🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽
I have been a fan of Home Free since first seeing them on the sing off. I am seeing them live for the second time. Shawn mentioned how they do a cappella in this one. But somewhere between the sing off and now, Home Free no longer sounds like an a cappella group but sounds like a band. In my opinion they are the best at what they do. Is there any other a cappella group that sounds like a band?

The funny thing is a bass guitar can not go as low as Tim can. :D
Austin is drop dead hot. His voice, his smile, his face.........I come back to these videos so I can see his face....uncovered.
I wish he would wear his hair shorter again-looks cuter.
I love how coy Tim plays it whenever the judges mention his range. Like I can't help but feel like he's just sitting there thinking "oh just wait until next time." With that little self assured smile.
I love their awkward dancing so much!

Cholla Ranch Thanks dude :D
Austin has the moves. He always has. The choreography for the group toned it down
