Thanks. If you're getting one of each bottle then the value would definitely be there but that's only if you truly want every color in the range. I chose about half of the full range for my own use and stock in my store. Don't forget to grab some thinner so you can airbrush and brush with the Ionics.
Last week I bought few Atom paints to test how they adhere to plastic without priming and the results were great. Do you know if Ionic paints have same properties?
I love Atom paints. These Ionic paints have the same properties but are thicker so they are better suited for brush painting though they work great from an airbrush when thinned down
To give ProAcryls some justice, they have some learning curve (as well as Kimeras, Scale 75 artists …etc). I used to have problems with them as well at the beginning and the started witching Monument Hobbies YT channel. There is a ton of info on how to use them and some philosophy behind the usage. Right now I do believe there are one of the best paints on the market. Don’t get me wrong, Ionics are also good - I would compare them to AK 3rd gen or new Army Painters. As for the caps - well, that is the matter of taste (they do offer normal caps on their website)
Thanks. I do enjoy using Pro Acryls but I focus on trying to make things easier for new painters. Pro Acryls can be great and I do enjoy them most times. I'm just pointing out what I found and expressing my opinion on the products in comparison as I was testing them.
@ Understood :D. To be honest I would not recommend them to a completely new painter. Like I wrote, I was thrown away at first usage and agree with the points you made. AKs 3rd Gen or Ionics are much better at first. But once you learn how to use PAs they show their true potential.
The ionic look like under pigmented professional paint which is interesting, that purple is definitely an under pigmented pv23 dioxazine violet(maybe pv37, but hard to tell). Those cracks form because there isnt enough binder in paint, this is a common issues with matte paints as you need to reduce the binder by a lot so you get that matte effect as they are way above CPVC due to the matte agents, its also partially a surface tension issue too. You can fix that by adding some Golden high flow medium to proacryl which will up the gloss content a little bit but it will make the film more durable and less prone to tearing.
@@relentlesstorm Aye no problem, I do quality control and testing for paint companies so I have a lot of weird information about paint formulations that isn't super common knowledge in this hobby so I'm always happy to share some incites to why something happens to paint.
The reason you're getting the shrinkage with Pro Acryl is that your wet pallet is making it TOO thin. Try it again with a dry pallet and no thinner and I bet you won't get that shrinkage.
@@relentlesstormuse their primer. They are formulated for a super matt base. OR apply matt varnish on the primer. No more shrinkage. Had this issue and consulted with Monument Hobbies
I’ve never had that issue with Proacryl ON a wet pallet, so I’m really not sure what’s going on with his paints. That said, the Ionic paints seem nice, but they aren’t blowing me away enough to invest in the product.
I have several emails from AMMO, they stated on two different occasions that the IONIC and ATOM are the exact same formulation. The only difference is the color.
@@southpaw5483 I agree from my tests that Ionic is a thicker version of Atom. The color and thickness is definitely different. As I mentioned, when thinned down, they spray the same as Atom. I love Atom paints which is why I love the Ionics. These spray like lacquer paint and brush like a dream
@@relentlesstorm Thank you for your time and insight. From a strictly Hand Brush (no Air Brush) perspective, may you suggest one over the other? (i.e., Ionic or Atom). thank you again.
Ionic is much better for hand brush over Atom. At least for the colors. I did show a few examples of the difference in the video. The ionic have much more pigment and are thicker. I haven't tested the metallics yet but I can say that the Atom metallics are my favorite so I'm assuming the Ionic will be my new favorite for brush painting metallics which I do quite often.
@@relentlesstorm u can buy different caps seperately, but honestly they should be standard. i love pro acryl paint but dispise the twist nozzle, always have to clean the tip before you pop any on the pallet to try and avoid bits in ya paint. just an unecisary extra step.
If I’m not wrong they sell them with the different caps without having to buy it separately. Or they used to do that. But yes, we shouldn’t have to pay extra.
I use mostly proacryl and the 3 things i hate are 1 - If the surface is not ultra matt i find it covers like shit, it seems to just not adhere to the surface. 2 - The extra paint when you close it like you said. 3. I agree. It seems like Pro Acryls are a one-trick pony for miniatures. I have Ionics available on my website. They literally just launched the line in November so I have my order in with Ammo. Ionics should be arriving here in January.
“You could airbrush with it”. Yeah, and you can airbrush with heavy body acrylics too, if you use enough medium to thin them down. Doesn’t mean its the best or better than product for that technique

My main complaint is brushing the metallics is a pain. I use proacryl for that.
So these Ionic paints are the collaboration with Big Child Creatives. It seams they made a basic set to start then Ammo decided to name them Ionic after the initial release did so well. At least that is my perspective. These would be the same formula of our Big Child Creatives version of Atom that was initially released.
