12:06 "Feels like an infomercial" Actually totally the contrary. I've been hoping you'd do a video on these paints as it really helps to understand the thought process behind them and their intended role. Not that I can't just use them for anywhere I need a dead toenail or poop color, but knowing they were intended for specific things I would never have thought of really opens up the possibilities for me in painting. I'm really hoping Vince does the same with his set as I picked up both. Pro Acryl and Ninjon are two of my favorite things, so this was like someone making a Dr.Pepper and pickles pizza. Like how am I NOT going to buy that?
They certainly are evocative! 😅 Some day we will be able to win Ninjon's set with special labels in a limited donation drive - or we absolutely should!!! That would be so fun! 😄
I'm back at miniature painting after taking 4 years off from it. I was able to mostly recover my Citadel paints, but they just don't behave like they are supposed to. Seriously, 1992 vintage Citadel paints just needed shaking to be good to go, but come Citidel paints from 6 years ago are just chunky goo, even after rehydrating and mixing with a vortex mixer... After trying out 2 of their paints, based on you and Vince's reviews, I just ordered the entire range of Pro Acryl, including both signature sets.
I love your painting style, I've not painted a mini since the early 90's but you've inspired me to go back and redo some of the awful painting I did back then!
No, don't. Use those as a reminder of how you painted before, and play them proudly. Instead, dive back in with only one new model. Just one. You won't.
Paints I use a lot: - Signal Black (Molotow) as my preferred primer through the airbrush; has a slight brown bias, which is very useful for painting warm colors - An artist white ink (any brand will do, but have been using Royal Talens Amsterdam lately) - Rhinox Hide (Citadel); unique dark brown with a purple undertone - Metal Color Steel (basically any silver from Vallejo’s Metal Color range is great) - Delayed Metal (Scale75); beautiful dark gold metal paint - Burnt Umber (PBr7) oil paint for making washes (any artist grade will do) - Kimera black is is my current favorite, AK’s 3rd gen Black my close second. Kimera’s is darker, while AK’s is easier to work with - Brown ink OOP (Citadel); best looking wood color I have come across - Inktense Wood (Scale75); for painting a more yellowish wood - Sombre Grey (Vallejo Game Color); great rather unique grey with a violet undertone - Chestnut Ink OOP (Citadel); really like orange-brown tones in general; Vallejo Skin Wash ink is also great and more importantly, still available - Kimera’s The Red and Magenta - Black ink (Vallejo); preferred for airbrushing because of it satin instead of glossy finish of other inks; usually mixed into other paints - Earth (Vallejo Game Color); great for painting weathered bone, glazed over a zenthinal undercoat; also great as a base color for leather - Agrax Earthshade (Citadel); mainly used for bases; also like (a thinned down) Wildwood, which is quite similar, but a little less dark when in the same consistency as Agrax - Nathol Crimson ink (Liquitex); favorite transparent red paint; it’s on the colder side, without leaning towards a magenta - Yellow Orange Azo ink (Liquitex); favorite transparent yellow paint, that might look neutral depending on the undershade - AK terrains Muddy ground; lovely texture paint; just don’t slap in on too thick, because you will get a weird texture - In general using Liquitex artist ink and Citadel Contrast paints a lot; I like almost all of them
i like that subtle hint there that "warm brown is basically rhinox hide" heh. if i can get the pro acryl version of that im all for it. mine arrive tomorrow can't wait to try them out!
Not remotely the point, but the opening credits always make me smile. The fumbling reach for paint, the fumbling reach for a brush, the chair spin - never fails to get a chuckle. These paints look interesting; I'll have to check them out!
Ooh, those are good sets. And I'm so glad there's finally a magenta in their range that doesn't have added white. The "Dark Magenta" (guessing it's single pigment PR122, because Vince) looks great! Congratulations to you both and MH for doing the collaboration, and for the wonderful results! A+ 💝
Pro Acryl Jade changed my life. Every mini I've painted since I got a bottle of it in 2021 has featured the color to varying degrees. I even bought a couch that color.
This is wild, and I think it really says something about your design choices: Today I was working on a mini with a kind of sickly/undead skin tone and I look around my desk for a good highlight color and see your red grey I bought and thought "this is perfect for unnatural flesh" So good job! Thanks for creating the set.
There are some colors I would like: finished tartan pattern, perfect eyes, realistic beard shadow and - very important - a universal color for all those things on a miniature only the sculptor nows, what it's supposed to be ;-) But those look very nice too! One color I recently discovered, is GOLDEN SoFLAT MATTE ACRYLICS, Paynes Grey. It is a very matte and dark grey, but much more interesting than VGC Dark Sea Blue. It is - in my opinion a very nice start for every black fabric or armor.
Ey! Good on you guys! I LOVE the colours in both of those sets, and Sugs' set, too. I'm colourblind, but I totally see, and more importantly, 'get' the colours in your set.
Lol. The way Monument zoom in on your face while hovering over the paint picture is quite amusing. Can't wait to pick up some of these when I have something resembling money.
Reaper Master Series Paints Dragon Copper is one of the best, vibrant coppers I've worked with. Always keep a bottle around, makes for nice metallic accents, while not being so bright that it's obnoxious. It's a nice, warm Copper that I've had a tough time finding a happy alternative for.
Is this the start of painters having their own paint lines within brands!? This could really jumpstart a whole new level of paints that can be bought with confidence knowing your favorite hobbyist have helped craft them. So glad you and Vince got the opportunity to great unique sets. Im hoping I can pick them both up this year
Kimera have had signature Artist blends for a while now, so not quite the start, but it’s a nice trend. And then you have ppl like Juan and Angel developing for Vallejo, and of course the AP speed paint YT creators. Though those aren’t “signature” lines. Interesting that Jon now will have paints for two companies
Well - you sold me (even though i have hundrets of colors already). It´s a nice infomercial you made - personal one. Ordered them (from the one store in germany where you can get them) :) Cheers.
i didnt even know of you but i got these paints before i saw this and i wanna say i love that you made a pure magenta, i got it because i am new to hobby and only wanted to base colours and having a magenta when knowing how paints are is amazing (long time artist, first time model painter) ESP since i want brighter pieces for dnd minis. im so excited to get my paints and start using them
I wasn't planning on buying new paints today, but had to check these out. Heard lots of good things about Pro Acryl so looking forward to testing these.
I make mini paints from emptying posca paint pens into dropper bottles...hear me out, it's acrylic paint, it's got a super matt finish, there's a huge range, it has great opacity, and it has a weird self-leveling quality that creates a really smooth finish. It does have certain downsides like it doesn't like being put on a wet palette, and if you use it too thickly it dries crackly but it opens up options I didn't have before. when I have enough money to pick your paints up I'll give them a try, they look great. and I know you are quite the paint collector so you know ya shizz;le when it comes to what works and what doesn't :)
I've recently bought into ProAcryl despite sort of glossing over them on the shelves at my FLGS. I've grabbed the starter set for now but I'm super interested in this set (and Vincey V's set). It was super nice to see practical applications of these paints in this video, especially the Plum colour. If you ever decide to do a second set, you've gotta fight Monument Hobbies to allow them to sneak "Tendies" into the name somehow!
I’m stoked about this! I’ve been watching your channel and listening to Trapped under Plastic for the last two years since I got back into the hobby. This is really cool to see this happening for you
Just got gifted (and in the mail) for both yours and vincey's sets (and fluorescent set as well), looking forward to having a play with them, and then will send where I get up to...
What you've created there is a makeup bruise pallet! Forget triads, take a look at makeup pallets and you can find larger groups of comparing and contrasting colours x
Those are really useful colours you came up with! The mini turned out great as well. You do seem to have a warm colour preference. My favourite red is 1:1 Kimera the Red and Magenta. It gives a lovely rich red.
I picked up your set a little while ago. Its an excellent set. I use dark warm flesh and dark ivory on everything. It mixes so well with everything for highlights.
Just grabbed some of both lines of paint and I absolutely love them. The ones I got were actually slightly thicker than my other proacryl paints which I really liked as well.
Dark Ivory looks like one of the colours I use a ton. Rakarth Flesh. I cannot state how much I love Rakarth Flesh. It's got a yellowy overtone with a cold undertone. I got the Two Thin Coats equivalent because I love this colour so much, and hate GW pots. I notice in flesh tones that there's a variation in warmth, not all highlights are warm on real skin. So even when I'm doing a warm skin tone, sometimes I'll put down the peachier tones I've used for the cheeks and lips, and use rakarth flesh to mix some colder highlights. There are plenty of areas where I'm making something warm, and mix RF in for more interest in the highlights. I also love it as a base for white tones, because it gives the impression that something is old and dirty, which fits the style for grimdark sci-fi and fantasy well. Or sometimes I use a neutral brown and highlight with some hatching, for a burlap look. When I was a newbie who used GW paints exclusively, I had Rakarth Flesh, and Screaming Skull available at all times for mixing highlights in basically every other colour.
Received both of the signature lines in the mail today. Absolutely love pro acryl paints, they've become the primary paint I reach for when painting a model, and I really like some of the color choices both you and Vince picked for your sets.
Flesh tone looked amazing! Overall great looking paints and very well done model! When resources allow I will be looking into your and Vince's paint lines. Another enjoyable and informative video. I'd like to think that those of us who've enjoyed your work for some time now are actually happy, if not excited for your succeses. But this is the internet so.... Anyway well done sir, and continued success!
My army has a specific look I like to stick to, and nothing quite hits like army painters Ghostly blue. It really pops out on the tabards and the eyes against the black armor and silver highlights of my legion. Thin it out and it's also a really good color for the lighter tones of ghosts, as the name suggests.
Waiting for this video all week. Grabbed two bottle from each of you. Should’ve bought the whole sets. Hope they aren’t limited! Super glad to see you go from nervous perfectionist start up you tuber to making your own ranges! Well done!
AK Interactive Ice Yellow. This color has changed how I highlight minis, any bright green, or red I mix in some ice yellow and it becomes much more interesting than adding white or even Ivory. Excellent paint. I'll probably pick up a case of these, they seem like they'll compliment a lot of the colors I'm going back to. Thanks Jon!
Both sets arrived on my door today. Hoping that Dark Warm Flesh is the perfect replacement for Sunny Skin Tone and Paynes Grey is my Dark Sea Blue replacement. Thanks for the great explanation of what to use these colors for.
Been watching your channel for a while now and really starting to think about getting the entire line of Pro Acryl paints. I'm especially excited by the signature paints from you and Vince.. Looking forward to trying them all out.. PAINT MORE MINIS!!!! Oh wait.. that's that other Scott guy I follow on RUclips. :)
Sweet! I have been wanting to try Pro Acryl paints for awhile now, and you just gave me the final shove I needed. Your recommendations of usage for each color were inspiring, and showed you really put some thought into each formula. There are a few I wished I had ready-made on my last project, especially the magenta, and plum. I ordered both signature sets, and am excited to start painting with them :)
Wow, congrats! These colors look to be really handy - I find myself constantly reaching for Ice Yellow, Dark Sea Blue, and Royal Purple from Vallejo. All are great for base coats, mixing, glazing, and more
One of my old favorites I've never found a great direct match for is Citadel Nauseating Blue. Vallejo makes a closeish one (Sick Blue), and I've tried a few times to mix it myself without much success. For those unfamiliar, it lived in a Bermuda Triangle like space between midnight blue and warm violet and clashed jarringly with bright greens and oranges. Certainly not for every mini or even the majority of the ones it worked on, but for some monsters, sorcerers, and other things like that it was always perfectly rich and jarring in a good way. It'd be amazing to have a really vibrant close match, and incredible if it managed to be a 1 or 2 pigment paint.
Really like these kinds of collabs... getting creativity in a product direct from the pros that use them... Have both boxes ordered up and en route. Thanks John, great material.
Browns. Because mixing paints is subtractive, any two random medium value shades are fairly likely to tilt towards brown when mixed - or at least a muddy tone. Any three almost certainly so. So if you need a brown, throw two paints together and see what you get, then try adding a third if you think you need to. Or just buy the paint set advertised here. Looks pretty good!
These are great colours! I really love that brown, can't wait to get some of these! I'm currently crushed that Vallejo has discontinued Ghost Grey.. I LOVE that colour. I use it as a mid-tone for white clothes, ghosts, snow... It's so good for being a "white" that I can make pop with some actual white highlights. It's a cool grey, but in a very "natural lighting" way that I appreciate.
I love citadel paints! using the contrast medium on paints which aren't contrast paints is one of my favorite things, I love seeing how the colour coats with the medium! Do wish they did colour shift paint though!
I've been using Vallejo Sunny Skin tone as a highlight, especially for red for so long, I'm gonna have to grab these sets. I literally ordered the rest of the Pro Acryl paints I wanted a week before these came out too. 😅
Really love your videos. You got me into the hobby. Waiting for my first mini to come in, to paint it. I know it won't be as amazing as yours it's all about baby steps and progress. Thank you for all your video's I have been learning a lot. I will be buying both paint sets.
The main paint i have tried to find is a true bright pink I have not found a single one that I’ve been happy with. All the paint from your set seem amazing and has a wide range of use.
10:30 - Because if there's one thing Jon has shared about himself, it's how passionate he is about saving money on paints and repurposing his existing options instead of buying more.
I’ve been wanting to try Pro Acryl for a while now, but didn’t want to get colors I already had from other brands. That was until your and Vince’s line came along. Just ordered about 4 paints from each set and can’t wait till they arrive!
I'm not much interested in your paints but as a maker I know what it means to work for months on your own product, going through prototypes, delays and inevitable failures... but at the end you have something you've put all your passion on and that you actually love using yourself. Well that passions shows. This message is just to help you with the yt algorithm. Good luck.
Saw the paintset at my local hobby store recently. I think i may need to buy it for the creative dynamic duo of Daryl and Jon, aka the first 2 minutes of this video.
ProAcryl paints have become my favorite to work with recently. Not sure if this is the case with all of their paints, but their light grey runs better through an airbrush than like, any of the other brands I've used.
Good stuff. Thanks Jon! I might have to branch out and give Pro Acryl paints a try soon. Also, every time I see your vortex mixer with the googly eyes, it makes me smile.
2 parts Vallejo dark Prussian blue, 1 part Vallejo dark vermillion, and 1 part black makes a nice color for the shadows of eighth legion astarties armor. If you use a medium gray instead of black you get a really interesting purple
12:06 "Feels like an infomercial"
Actually totally the contrary.
Vince's video drops tomorrow!
Redneck Jon's paint names were better
They certainly are evocative! 😅
Some day we will be able to win Ninjon's set with special labels in a limited donation drive - or we absolutely should!!! That would be so fun! 😄
Yea is dead toenail going to be for sale!?
That’s Daryl
I oddly do want a redneck john paint collection now as well
I'll be incredibly sad if the paint isn't available in two versions, Redneck and Standard.
I'm back at miniature painting after taking 4 years off from it.

Because they are so warm and go well together, i used both of the collections to paint little books in a shelf. Came out dope
Question, how dark is dark ivory compared to something like Rakarth flesh from citadel?
Paints I use a lot:
- Signal Black (Molotow) as my preferred primer through the airbrush; has a slight brown bias, which is very useful for painting warm colors
- An artist white ink (any brand will do, but have been using Royal Talens Amsterdam lately)
- Rhinox Hide (Citadel); unique dark brown with a purple undertone
- Metal Color Steel (basically any silver from Vallejo’s Metal Color range is great)
- Delayed Metal (Scale75); beautiful dark gold metal paint
- Burnt Umber (PBr7) oil paint for making washes (any artist grade will do)
- Kimera black is is my current favorite, AK’s 3rd gen Black my close second. Kimera’s is darker, while AK’s is easier to work with
- Brown ink OOP (Citadel); best looking wood color I have come across
- Inktense Wood (Scale75); for painting a more yellowish wood
- Sombre Grey (Vallejo Game Color); great rather unique grey with a violet undertone
- Chestnut Ink OOP (Citadel); really like orange-brown tones in general; Vallejo Skin Wash ink is also great and more importantly, still available
- Kimera’s The Red and Magenta
- Black ink (Vallejo); preferred for airbrushing because of it satin instead of glossy finish of other inks; usually mixed into other paints
- Earth (Vallejo Game Color); great for painting weathered bone, glazed over a zenthinal undercoat; also great as a base color for leather
- Agrax Earthshade (Citadel); mainly used for bases; also like (a thinned down) Wildwood, which is quite similar, but a little less dark when in the same consistency as Agrax
- Nathol Crimson ink (Liquitex); favorite transparent red paint; it’s on the colder side, without leaning towards a magenta
- Yellow Orange Azo ink (Liquitex); favorite transparent yellow paint, that might look neutral depending on the undershade
- AK terrains Muddy ground; lovely texture paint; just don’t slap in on too thick, because you will get a weird texture
- In general using Liquitex artist ink and Citadel Contrast paints a lot; I like almost all of them
i like that subtle hint there that "warm brown is basically rhinox hide" heh. if i can get the pro acryl version of that im all for it. mine arrive tomorrow can't wait to try them out!
I think the hint was directed towards Mournfang Brown. At least that's what the color looks like on screen to me.
i think you're right. proacryl mahogany already is pretty close to rhinox hide already. ill find out when i get the paint i suppose.
@@klakhouseso what’s it’s look like? Rhionx hide or mournfang brown? I got all 3 and I think warm brown looks more similar to mournfang.

Got both sets in the mail yesterday! Such fantastic colors
I bought both sets last Friday when they came out. Great colors!
I gotta say, for some reason this video is pure joy in every way. Got your paints today!
Both sets arrived on my door today. Hoping that Dark Warm Flesh is the perfect replacement for Sunny Skin Tone and Paynes Grey is my Dark Sea Blue replacement. Thanks for the great explanation of what to use these colors for.
My set just got delivered yesterday! Excited to test em out!
Thank you; for the tips, entertainment, and frankly most of all the honesty.
Congratulations @Ninjon! This is really exciting
All are great for base coats, mixing, glazing, and more
I just bought a set of each. Love Pro Acryl paints.
Love the paints! My two favorite colors I mix constantly is a deep brown gray and a dark evergreen.
I have definitely been leaning on Golden SoFlat acrylics ever since the video last year and haven't looked back but now these are just so pretty!
Picked your colors up! Happy to help support your channel and I love the new colors! Keep up the good work!
Great new line, I've already had to put in a reorder for my shop for them.
The main paint i have tried to find is a true bright pink I have not found a single one that I’ve been happy with. All the paint from your set seem amazing and has a wide range of use.
Bought - didn’t watch to the end for the discount code 😂 oh well! Look forward to giving them a try
Both sets were already ordered before seeing this but it's great to see them used by a master.
10:30 - Because if there's one thing Jon has shared about himself, it's how passionate he is about saving money on paints and repurposing his existing options instead of buying more.
“Walks the fine line between snot and baby poop…” HaHaha! As a parent of 4, I know EXACTLY what colour that is 😊😜😂
My go to paint is Nightsky Blue from Reaper, i find myself using it all the time
I’ve been wanting to try Pro Acryl for a while now, but didn’t want to get colors I already had from other brands.
Good luck.
Guess i know what i'm ordering from Element on the 10th Feb!
Saw the paintset at my local hobby store recently. I think i may need to buy it for the creative dynamic duo of Daryl and Jon, aka the first 2 minutes of this video.
Picked up your set , can't wait to start using them . Gonna pick up Vince's set eventually as well .
ProAcryl paints have become my favorite to work with recently. Not sure if this is the case with all of their paints, but their light grey runs better through an airbrush than like, any of the other brands I've used.
So many of their paints get so thin in an airbrush while still maintaining their color it's crazy.
Some of my go to colors for pretty much any painting job are P3’s Coal Black, and Vallejo’s Ice Yellow. Great off black and white options.
Good stuff.
Darryl is obviously THE talent behind Ninjon. It's amazing how far this channel has come with just a touch of Darryl.
Happy squirrel hunting!
"Yer god damn right" - Daryl
Huge Daryl fan here. That’s all I wanted to say.
Whenever i take a brake from painting and want to get back on track, I start watching Jon's videos.
You had me at the announcement post. Can't wait for them to come in
Payne's Grey is such a great colour, and it is indeed one that I find myself mixing a lot (to shade metal p.e)
After watching the video I noticed that PG is from Vince's set 🙃
The video is a great demo of your set tho, will give it a go 🙂
