World of Horror, the game that just keeps on impressing me. Good to know they have plans for some more secretive bonus bosses, a true challenge if you're not prepared. I loved seeing your mouse shaking after one of the events popped, I get the feeling you had been trying to get that to trigger for quite awhile.
Technically, he didn't have to do that one event at all. STE has a few events and 4 are only needed to summon it. There's 5 to my knowledge, with one of them being when you rest at about 3 counters or so, where it appears in the screen of your computer saying, "STE knows where you live"
This feels like there should be more story to it. It also somehow feels familiar, like I've read some of these things somewhere before...I think I know the whole "suffer for me", "cry for me" thing from some other story.
If you dont have offensive spells you have to Suffer and Cry until its satisfied which will give a combat option to end the encounter. It also gives you options to kill you instantly.
I've killed SOMETHING EVIL with Ithotu Flame + Regeneration + Memory Fragment in a level 1-only run also. The sad part is that it won't stop if you actually kill it. It keeps coming until you actually respect its mechanic (that and you won't get the achievement for beating it unless you actually do the Stamina/Reason damage thing until an option saying "its sated" appears on the middle top).
The way the combat music's been slowed down like this drips with menace. I'd like to listen to it again and again. I wonder if SOMETHING TRULY EVIL is a reference to Tomie?
@@elliot_rat I mean most of the other mods in the discord is pretty cool (and they actually bother to list which characters that are NSFW, example being Veronica from OSC's pack which has an NSFW costume or Yumi... who is part of the same pack and the reason why she's NSFW is due to her lore). I've found this playlist recently and they've inspired me to run a lovecraftian monster of the week campaign with investigations inspired by the ones in world of horror and the ones provided in monster of the week, plus other games you've played in the past. I haven't run a campaign in quite some time, and the last one i did run was dnd and it went down in flames as i was inexperienced and going through some stuff at the time. I recognize this probably isn't your intended outcome when playing games but you've managed to reawaken my passion for horror and the unknown while helping me with my fears of various horror game genres. I don't know what about you has inspired a change within me, but I do want to say that i do want an NPC that the players have to interact with that with during a mystery, or maybe a recurring character. Thanks a million, my guy, i appreciate all that you do!
It's not really a scary game. It has horror aesthetic but the jump scares are not even that convincing. It's more like a horror theme game, explores 'abstract horrifying concepts'.
I didn't know you could defeat Something Truly Evil via combat damage. I just appeased it by feeding it stamina and reason. I do know STE has at least 5 different events involving it with 3 of them being starting triggers for the whole secret. It's interesting watching your playthrough of it after playing through it myself. I didn't notice how OP the hammer or the character with the ally perk were until yesterday (they've patched the game to nerf them a bit, but at the time of when I played/you played they were). The fact that there wasn't a proper ending for one of the Old Gods and that the cause of death for the spider god were different before the recent patch (in your "all endings" video) is interesting, specifically for the latter.
Alternatively you can sacrifice stamina and/or reason with the combat options. Once you have sacrificed enough (I think it's 8) you get a new option to have it leave you alone.... for now.
When STE finally caught me, the music actually completely cut off instead of playing this distorted theme. Literally the scariest shit I've ever encountered in a video game.
Is there any lore regarding Something Truly Evil? I don't quite understand if it's a reference or something. Still, pretty amazing and great boss fight. Also, apparently to get the achievement, you have to defeat it another way, I think the devs didn't expect you to be able to actually defeat it by killing them.
It's not even true defeat. You basically placate this Eldritch abomination with your blood and sanity temporarily and that somehow counts as unlocking the achievement. She'll find you in another random enemy encounter later no matter what you do. I found it pretty cheeky that the achievement says "meet and defeat SOMETHING EVIL" when what the player did is anything but defeat it.
I think there's gunna be a mystery in the full game involving this boss, the way you encounter it is to involved for it to just be a random thing you encounter. My guess is that it's gunna involve teaming up with a monk or something to drive it back.
My guess is that the dev wanted to implement a stalker type enemy to the game that chases you through it without being connected to any investigation, like how in resident evil, silent hill and other horror games you're chased by a specific recurring enemy through the whole game. It'd be cool if there was more about it, but explaining it defeats the whole eldritch unstoppable abomination vibe it has.
This is such a strange but cool event. Played through the game a few times already, but i never encountered this guy. I only see a few events with his pictures, but wound up beating the game before it could manifest.
I don't think you can actually defeat the evil entity itself by reducing it's HP to zero. But according to the wikipedia, even if you do defeat it by reducing HP to zero, the encounter values determining whether you'll meet it don't reset, or disappear. I interpret that as meaning "you would just encounter it again anyway". The game seems designed in a way where you have to specifically plan to win that battle by outhealing it and 'hoping' that you 'win' the encounter by appeasing something evil. Ways you could damage it: Thrown items. Spells. Consumables(?) I don't know if dust of seeing would help that fight by reducing its power (thus damage and dodge chances) to zero. Or if that actually works.
Huh, can't believe I never noticed it was just a slowed version of that theme. I guess I should say instead, I wish this slowed/slightly pitched down version Something Truly Evil has was uploaded.
I know there's a specific ritual you can perform to get rid of ghosts (which is clap, bow, clap, bow, clap) , but I don't know if this enemy is considered a ghost. Alternatively, maybe the "proper" way to defeat it has something to do with the "suffer for me" or "bow for me" actions (since they're specific to this fight), but that's just a guess.
Bugged? No. Random glitchy graphic is intended in Something Truly Evil's fight. She's not the only one with this too, Glitched Magician is a big offender. Time Skipper at school to a lesser extent. That was a regular offensive spell Manly used to 'kill' STE. It may have Ithotu's name in it, but it's not a ritual spell. If it's the combat options you are talking about, STE is just that powerful ingame. It's too bad that defeating her doesn't even award you with -10% DOOM when choosing to satiate her with some 'modest' Stamina and Reason does. 60 EXP or -10% DOOM is not worth the hassle of getting into a fight with her.
There's music for this encounter? I encountered Something Truly Evil yesterday and for me, there was no music, no SFX, and all of my items (and I believe spells as well) said "FOUND YOU". Maybe it's a random thing, but I personally feel that this encounter is a lot cooler with no music or SFX.
