  • @Voyagersguidebook

    Not bashing companions, but I think the Doctor and Clara's love was deeper than anyone else. It was a true bond of friendship and loyalty. It didn't need a Romantic aspect. And for me it started with 11 and really bloomed with 12. (Similar to Rose x Nine into Ten.) I love how you captured all the heavy emotions and veiled words. Even the way she says "I love YOU" you can see the inflection in her voice change and she's no longer talking to Danny, she's talking to the Doctor. And the Doctor, who never says he loves back, whenever he tells Clara "I have a duty of care." It's his way of saying, "I love you, Clara Oswald." It is heartbreaking. She helped and changed him so much. Kept him sane, from falling back into Time Lord Victorious (Something I easily see Twelve doing.)
    I'm glad Twelve found River again in the special, because he was lost, even though he couldn't remember Clara, and he needed someone by his side. And it allowed them as husband and wife to have a linear time line. I think Clara will come back when it's Twelve's time to Regenerate. She has to. She's still out there.

      I included Clara's "I love you" line because of that reason! It's clearly meant for the Doctor, as Jenna Coleman also confirmed many times.
      I love River but I think the timing was really wrong with the special, they wanted to bring her back to get more views on Christmas day but I could see Missy being a much better fit for the special as she set Clara and him up, you know? But then again, it was a really sweet episode in the end and maybe it was for the best x

      +JCF Productions thanks for the reply. :) I don't watch much behind the scenes stuff so it's great that Jenna confirmed the line! I became a late DW fan, so I didn't watch the series as it aired. Didn't think about the timing. I loved the River special, it was a good ending to her character. I found it very sweet too. I don't care much for Missy at all, but actually, I just hate the Master in general. Lol. Missy is definitely the most fascinating one.

    • @TheWeepingDalek
      @TheWeepingDalek 7 лет назад +5

      you can see a more paternal relationship grow between them. clara and 11 were just great friends. not unlike him and amy. but when he regenerated into 12. he became protective of her. you could see this by the ways he spoke to her. yelling at her to do as she is told (like a parent would to a child) danny even mentions how he thought he was her dad. and how the doctor felt danny had to earn his approval to date clara. kind of like how a dad and daughter's boyfriend. and he going on about how he had a duty of care. how mad he went when clara was about to die. he became threatening.

    To anyone who thinks Twelve and Clara were "platonic" - watch Mummy On The Orient Express. From the costumes to the ambiance to the music to the "hallway of sexual tension" outside their sleeping chambers. And then at the end, watch clara say, "I LOVE YOU" straight to the Doctor - which Jenna Coleman has confirmed on video several times. Or listen to the creator (Moffat) say "he's absolutely besotted with her" and "this is an old fashioned love story". Moffat also specifically said, several times, that 12's affection for Clara was sexual/romantic in nature, which is why he's always giving her long looks. And Jenna and Peter BOTH confirmed that 12 and Clara are "crazy about each other". Stay willingly blind if you want, but the official Doctor Who show established them as canon.

      @@bellascoles1821 yeah i think it had romantic moments, but that wasn't the focus of it. They never actually dated as far as we saw. They loved each other, they were best friends, they were an even match, great partnership, great friendship, and that's what their time together on the show focused on. There was a romantic element but it wasn't the main focus. Also they were never actually a couple, which makes it romantically tragic as well, because they longed to be together but never worked it out before Clara's death. :'(

    I hadn't even realized that it's been over four years since Clara left. The relationship she and 12 had was incredible. They both had so much love and affection for each other but it wasn't a cheesy romance or shallow friendship, it was far more than either of those. I cry almost every time I watch videos like this, because most of them are emotional and meant to invoke that reaction. I loved Clara as a companion. She had so much development in the three years that she was a part of the show. Their story will always be one of my favorites to watch. This video is great (and i realize it's like four years old by now lol)
    also i recently rewatched Face the Raven and I didn't anticipate that it would make me cry as much as I did. I'm rewatching all of 12's episodes and viewing them now that I'm older is kind of refreshing, to be honest. I tend to notice the little moments they show signs of support and love for each other. I just really like their relationship lol

      I Agree, and It is clear and now I understand it better, their relationship transcends much more than just seeing and going to the stars or going on adventures out there and saying that it was simple. This goes beyond the understanding of a person who does not understand what it means to truly love.

    I really can't stand those who say Clara Oswald is not as good as all the other companions. I mean, do you all want a love story between the Doctor and his "girls"? This is goddamn friendship. They hit it off, they cared for eachother, they betrayed, they fought and said "fuck you" to eachother. They had up and down's. 'Cause they're normal. They're "impossible" and still they worked out. Does that mean to you that Clara's not a good companion?! This series ain't a love story. This series is about every freakin' thing. Friendship included.
    So if you can't UNDERSTAND the character of Clara Oswald, well, at least do not talk shit about her.
    For what about this video... TEARS RUSHING DOWN MY FACE. LOVE YOU CLARA.

    • @JCFProductions
      @JCFProductions  8 лет назад +48

      Aww, that's hella true! They're not just a love story, they're much more complex and evolved than that. They have a true friendship, and a really strong bond. When you spend this much time with someone and embark on adventures, escape death, you obviously have a strong emotional connection to eachother. You know what I like about your comment and the subkect other companions? I like that 12 and Clara just go ahead and talk about their problems in the TARDIS after those adventures. They talk about their feelings. In for example Amy and Rory, they don't often talk about what just happened. That's why the writing of 12 and Clara's relationship just feels so raw and real.

    This video is not only amazing, but it captures the true love between Clara and the Doctor. Every time I rewatch their seasons together, I notice more and more of these little signs that they were in love. There are so many to choose from, but I'd like to focus on "The Caretaker" for a second. When the 12th Doctor mistakes Adrian for Clara's boyfriend, he is giddy and happy because he thinks she is in love with HIM, or at least who he used to be. When Clara confesses she loves Danny, she is obviously shocked by her own words. It could be taken one of two ways. For the anti-shippers, it could mean she is realizing for the first time that she loves Danny and is finally admitting that out loud. For the pro-shippers, she is facing the Doctor when she says it and you can tell her confession was accidental and not meant to protect Danny from him, otherwise, she would have been more confident and defensive when she told him. At the 2:00 minute mark in this video, you can see the shock and devastation in his eyes. And right after, the look between Clara and the Doctor tells so much. Clara isn't looking at Danny's bewilderment and thinking to herself, "Please accept me for who I am." She is looking to the Doctor, and he is looking right back at her. Her expression says, "I'm sorry," whereas his says, "Is this really what you want?" I believe 100% that the Doctor's anger towards Danny had nothing to do with the fact that he was a soldier. He was upset because he believed she didn't love him anymore. Anti-shippers cannot possibly believe that the Doctor would be upset that his companion's boyfriend was a soldier when his own wife was a gun-toting archaeologist, both of which he hated. When he was facing his greatest enemy, the father of pure evil itself and his army of children, he didn't beg for his life nor shed a tear for the universe. He begged for Clara to be spared. He said, "I want Clara Oswald." When Amy and Rory got sent back to 1938, did the Doctor risk all of time and space or the TARDIS to go after them? No. But he was willing to sacrifice everything he was, break all of his own rules, risk the entire universe for Clara. He endured billions of years of torture and the only thing keeping him going was the memory of her. Not Amy, not River, not Rose. Clara. He was not her "space dad", she was not "like a daughter" to him. He LOVED her.

      well said. He loved her in a different way... Regarding that mention you make about why 12th was upset by Clara's choice with Pink? I have another interpretation of it, let's remember that he was also a soldier once, a master of war, who almost ended his own species for wanting to press a button. hence the parallel with Pink and the rejection. Not just because he hates or tries to forget that part of him but the fact that that's what Clara is attracted to Pink, that older version of him.

    Anyone who really thinks that Series 8 and 9 didn't constitute a full fledged epic romance - complete with love triangle, tragedy, comedy, both partners being nasty to each other at times - should watch videos like this. Nothing is taken out of context here (that's not always the case with these kinds of videos). If you still don't think there was anything between them, you've not paying attention. On a related note I'd never noticed the symmetry between Missy saying the Doctor should never see Clara scream and the fact he does later on ... wow. Fantastic video, easily one of the best related to Twelve and Clara that I've seen.

      +Alex Fh It’s the oldest story in the universe. This one or any other. Boy and girl fall in love, get separated by events-war, politics, accidents in time. She’s thrown out of the hex or he’s thrown into it. Since then they’ve been yearning for each other across time and space. Across dimensions. This isn’t a ghost story, it’s a love story.

    I think The Doctor and Clara are "in love" in a similar way to how The Doctor and Missy are best friends.
    And this sounds weird, but I think it's imperative to their complex relationship that both of them have deeply hurt each other and forgiven each other. It somehow makes them seem like they're in a more... equal relationship compared to the Doctor with other companions, if that makes sense?

    I think the doctor did fall in Love with Clara. Not in the romantic way that he felt for River or Rose, and romance is not something the doctor should feel in My opinion. For Clara it was much deeper than that. She kept him on the right path and continued making him the doctor. Then when she died, the doctor lost all of that. He lost his moral sense, he lost being the doctor and the good man. This is what hell bent shows. No matter how bad it is and how much it messes with continuity this is what the episode does good. Showing the extent the doctor goes to to keep Clara safe. And he loves her. Not in the romantic way. But in the way that he would torture himself inside his own personal hell for millions of years. And that Love is with Both his hearts

      +Yelloworb I think he was in love with her in a romantic way as well. There are plenty of signs of this including his admission that he thought of himself as her boyfriend. Your points are no incorrect, but I do think he was in love with her romantically - in fact Capaldi has said so, referring to their relationship as a "truly romantic" one. Keep in mind he never said the words "I love you" to River, whereas Moffat has given us a number of clear euphemisms instead. Ditto for Clara, who actually did say "I love you" to the Doctor in the Orient Express episode (Jenna Coleman confirmed this) and later used her own euphemisms in order to keep the promise she made to Danny to never say "I love you" to anyone else.

    • @ohkokohtpy

      +Alex Fh I think the 12th doctor let go of his boyish charm that came with his tenth and eleventh doctor and in saying that he is not Clara's boyfriend he apologizes to lead Clara to the conclusion that the doctor fancied her and blamed himself for it, hence why he says "I never Said it was your misstake" directly afterwards. And Clara could have told the doctor that she loved him out of friendships, like close friends sometimes do. I haven't heard Capaldi say that, when did he? I think the doctor loved Clara, in a way of friendship from 12 onwards when he was more determined to not get romantically involved and I think, in a sense Clara lost her ability to have a romance after Danny Pink died, since he meant so much to her

      +Yelloworb beware the long post.
      I personally think she never loved Danny as much as she really wanted to love him, or as much as she loved the ~idea of him. (Ugh, I know this is such a cliche). But I believe her heart always remained by the Doctor. She had a few small clashes with Danny in "Into the Dalek", because of the whole soldier situation, and they didn't have the best chemistry together, even when they first met. In "Listen", she almost broke up with him, but right after that he saw Orson Pink, who treated her like she was family. I think this situation has the power to put a big pressure and stress on any kind of human. Imagine you're dating someone and you see someone who is DEFINITELY their relative, and they act like you're their (+)

      (+) grandmother. It's like the bootstrap paradox, like you've seen your own future with someone. Maybe Clara felt like she had the duty to get married to Danny, or maybe she thought this entire encounter was destiny, a sign for her to stick with Danny, I don't know. But I certainly believe something has changed after Clara met Orson. After "Listen", Clara started to have more empathy for Danny (also because she saw his childhood in "Listen" as well?) In "Kill the Moon", Clara is in year 2050. There is this woman that says "You want to have kids?" To which Clara replies "Well, yes." And Courtney adds in a playful manner: "Mr. Pink.." so the woman says "Okay so you've probably got children out there. Grandchildren even." SUBTEXT. Without making this comment longer than it already is, I think the main problem with Clara was that no matter what she tried to do, her heart always belonged to the Doctor. She was blatantly in love with the (+)

    honestly. this is so inspiring and amazing and horrifyingly sad at the same time. how can someone put so much love and care into something, that it just feels so... perfect and magical? but then of course, at the end, the sadness had to have come raining down on me. how can someone put so much perfection, clara and the doctor, and make it even better?"how can you.. do this? its so.. upsetting. clara and the doctor were amazing but the way it's edited is upsetting yet perfect and beautiful. it displays the relationship perfectly. the way its put together.. so beautifully it makes me cry. because of this relationship. because of the way it ended. because, nobody else can portray it perfectly. thankyou.

    Never sundestood the Not Clara brigade.. guess because she followed on from Amy, but I think she was brilliant.. We talk about needing strong women on TV, we talk about how we don't want the Doctors Companion to be just a damsel in distress, yet in Clara we got what we wanted and still wasn't happy. But then when Bill came along, even from just a 30 second clip it was decided she was not a good companion but turned out be loved. Clara will remain a high level companion for me.

    • @JCFProductions
      @JCFProductions  5 лет назад +2

      Gary Woolton agreed! Thank you. I’ve also noticed people (mostly 12 year old boys I guess) HATE the new Doctor because of a 10 second clip.. they say a woman Doctor ruins the show.. when none of us have even watched an episode of hers yet.

      @@JCFProductions every Doctor got hate tbh... most of all Matt Smith. Because he came after David Tennant. But I do agree that Jodie got a bit of sexist flack that she didn't deserve. After seeing all the episodes, however. I do have to say she's my least favorite. It's not that she's a woman. It's just that she has terrible writing. But I think Jodie is miscast in the role. Someone like Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Helena Bonham Carter or Holliday Grainger could really knock it out of the park!

    Clara was the best written and acted companion.
    It was the first time on TV that I could really see two people having deep unconditional love for eachother without all that typically cheap tv romance crap. Clearly the best work of the modern show.
    But I think what I like most about their journey is how much of a significant impact another person can have on your soul. Capaldis portrayal of the doctors change is beyond fantastic and has never been reached since.. no shade to the other actors, they were also fantastic.

    This is really well done. But here's what I think. I fully believe you can be platonically IN love with someone, and not just love them. Feel so connected and in love with someone that it transcends romantic/sexual attraction. You don't need the latter to be in love. And those who think that are small minded. They were in love with each other, they were devoted, and I think that Clara was the best companion for this doctor to have coming in. She really changed him, she helped him grow. And their relationship is one of my favorites doctor/companion relationships to watch.

    • @JCFProductions
      @JCFProductions  5 лет назад +1

      You wrote this so eloquently! This is mostly how I see them as well, I think they love each other romantically as well, but it would subdue their relationship to a lower level to “only” label them as that. That’s just a small part of their connection, you know? Their bond transcends romantic/sexual attraction.
