Yep. Most Pokemon didn't care very much, or got mildly useful coverage. A few were buffed immensely (things like Breloom, Gengar, Metagross, etc) and an handful were nerfed into the ground and few worse than Banette.
This just shows how a lot of Gen 1-3 Pokemon can benefit from having their stats reworked to be more like the Pokemon after the physical/special split and provided some decent coverage as well.
Yeah, the physical/special split did hurt it but honestly that isn't Banette's real problem because what the physical/special split meant for it at the end of the day is that it had to switch from an 80 bp to a 70 bp move. Definitely not good, but not horrible. Banette's bigger problem was a shallow offensive movepool at the time so it had no coverage, a problem it still mostly has. It would be great if it could learn Superpower for instance but even then it would be dogged by it's core problem. Banette, like other mons such as Absol and Rampardos is the unfortunate combination of both frail and slow. Even if you have good offensive stats, if you are frail than at least you have to be fast (Kartana, Raikou, etc) and if you are slow than you at least have to be tanky (Tyranitar, Gyarados, etc). Being both slow and frail has never worked out for any mon in competitive, and Banette is no exception as not even prankster destiny bond could save it in SM. So yes while the physical/special split did hurt it, its core problems of poor offensive coverage and the killer combo of slow and frail would have seen to its downfall anyway.
I think it would make it good in RU if it ever gets its mega back. It really just needed that strong stab move which will allow it to be useful without killing itself, it would have a niece in whatever tier it would end up

Thanks patreons and FalseSwipeGaming for turn this video possible. Because Banette is my favorite Ghost-Type Pokémon and Mega-Banette is my favorite Mega Pokémon. I have history with this Pokémon, i used Banette to beat Pokémon Emerald and used it to squash Anabel's Alakazam in the Battle Tower. In gen 5 i used my alternative Banette with 252 Sp Attack, 252 Speed, Timid nature, Item: Choice Specs, Moves: Shadow Ball for primal ghost STAB, Thunder for trick Politoed, Hidden Power Fire for catch off guard switich Scizor and Ferrothorn and Trick for fooled Chansey and other stallers. Not the best set, but have his nich. I make many Sweeps with my Special Mega-Banette in Gens 6 and 7 with Shadow Ball, Thunder, (because Banette not great Sp Attack stats) Substitute and Calm Mind, 252 Speed, 186 Sp Attack, 70 Deffense, Timid nature. A very good set to use with Sticky Web and i have the most normal set with Shadow Sneak/Sucker Punch, Gunk Shot, Will-O-Wisp, Taunt/Destiny Bond with 252 Speed, 252 Attack and Jolly nature. I buffed Mega-Banette gave him 97 base speed, acess to Close Combat, Stone Edge, Elemental Punches, Play Rough, Swords Dance and Hone Claws, and for final create a new STAB siganture move for Banette the Cursed Needles when Banette use this claws like needles with 120 base power, 100 acuraccy, Physical, lowering Banette's Def and Sp Def Stats. And this is i buffed Banette, is a shame Banette is more offensive on Special side thank to the fact it's have more covarage with special moves and the only buffed move buff Sp Attack and Sp Defense.
I don't care if Banette is abandoned by Gamefreak, I love this little monster with all my heart. I literally never abandon it and always revisit It in my copy of sun and moon, I've been using her for a bunch of generations.
Banette has been my favorite pokemon for at least 10 years.. really dissapointed in banette's competitive viability :( I was hoping for a decent buff or a type change. I played rom hacks were banette was either Ghost/normal (because of the doll aspect), or Ghost/Dark (because of the hatred).
I have destroyed teams many times with Mega Bannette. You have to really gamble and use mind games like pretending you have destiny bond, or pretending you have it, then your opponent learns it doesn’t have it, but then it turns out you did have it. It’s amazing when it works.
In my opinion, some Megas could have easily been its Pokemon's evolution design wise, especially if it's a single stage Pokemon to begin with (stats would need to be adjusted, of course). For me, Banette is a prime example for that.

He did it!He said the thing
It's a shame that Mega Banette has a huge 165 attack stat but no defences or speed to back it up, it is my favourite mega evolution and I use it a lot although it's not that good :'(
I really hate what they did with some megas, and Banette was one of them. They literally could've just given it 10 more attack, 10defense, 30 special attack and 50 speed. That's ALL they needed to do. Why the hell does it need 165 attack????
OMG FINALLY
This is one of my favorite Pokémon of all time and the first ever Mega I used in VGC I loved using it and one some tournaments with it too I absolutely love it’s design and Lore! Thx FSG for this video
I keep forgetting that Banette had a mega evolution.
Well it's a pretty forgettable mon.....
00:27: Oh, what a heartwarming backstory! It brings a tear to your eye.
12:28
Poltergeist could save him (for at least a PU niche)
Doubtful considering Dusknoir's dominance as a tank Poltergeist user with more bulk and much better coverage
@@breloommaster12 Yeah, but Banette is faster and stronger (Even resists could get 2HKO with Choice Band)
@@doubleace11554 doesn't matter, there's also gourgeist, who's faster than banette, and trevenant, who has an actual useful ability. both also have useful secondary typings and more versatile movepools. banette sucks.
@@wesuckatgames9549 We can also consider Sw/Sh has been given weird coverage to old mons, even though the move wasn't learnable for it in past gens (Venusaur with Earth Power, Raikou with Scald, Psychic fangs to Lycanroc-Dusk, Close combat for everyone and their mother), so it wouldn't be weird to see something like elemental punches, swords dance and/or Play rough on Bannete.
RIP my favorite ghost boy 😔
I thought it was pronounced "Buh-nette" instead of "Bane-ette"
Love your work! Be safe and thanks for all you do.
Next: How GOOD was Sawk ACTUALLY?
i will never back down
For all the unrealistically exaggerated Pokédex entries, Banette’s is so realistic, it’s lifelike.

yap. sounds like wolfey alright
gotta love him
He is a douche.
@@RandalfElVikingo wolfe? wolfe is amazing!
Banette in gen 3: Wanna play with my STAB physical Shadow ball
Banette in gen 4-5: My shadow claw is weaker than the average team flair grunt
Banette in gen 6-7: Finally a mega! I'm relevant again
Banette in gen 8:
Its loby
I feel Mega Banette was the second worst mega in the game. It really needs a mega to be relevant or a better stat distribution.
Bannete's mega in gen 7 is basically higher attack stat than groudon but just as good as ledian
@@M3rtyville Yep completely agree but hey at least it was decent in RU in gen 6 and in NU in gen 7 (unlike Mega Abomasnow who actually fell to PU in gen 7).
Please do a how good was thunderous, landerous, or tornados actually or just one of them. Thanks, also love your channel.
I can answer of those
Thundurus: Good
Tornadus: Good
Landorus: Was the most used mon in VGC 2019 and is a top 10 mon in VGC 2021
Thundurus: Eh.
Tornadus: Great.
Landorus: One of the most annoying, frustrating, overpowered and overused Mons in existence.
@@Midgetpokemon Incineroar was the most used mon in 2019, Landorus had almost no use in that format.
I love how he had a clip of kangaskan hitting it with a normal type move
poltergueist may be useful to him if he comes to gen 8.
with sash, sneak, sucker punch and trick room he may advance some game states and support some teams.
niche, but its something.
Banette sounds like it's begging to be a poltergeist abuser; a possessed toy possessing its opponents' toys.
Wouldn't do much anyway since it's outclassed by many other better Ghost type Pokemons.
love this mon, one of my all time favorites
2:45 Blastoise looks so strange without the cannons.
Finally patreon, been waiting a while for this
8:30 am on a Sunday
Ya mean midnight Monday! Australian Central daylight time
Cool video man
just imagine mega banette in gen 8 with these movesets:
Poltergeist
Cotton guard ( Gen 5 DW ) / will o Wisp
Shadow Sneak
knock off
or
Poltergeist
Taunt
knock off
Rest / Cotton guard ( gen 5 DW ) / Will o Wisp
Not really. Why would you run it over mega gengar?
There’s no Megas... I think a straight evolution with a normal/ghost typing and a new ability maybe something cool like poison heal, magic guard, or guts to boost its priority moves in sucker punch, shadow sneak/ quick attack. Stats for the evolution would be similar to its mega but 30 less in attack to be put into speed and/or hp, also w an evolution bannette would be able to use eviolite
WOW THIS VIDEO IS AMAZING! YOU ARE THE KING OF POKEMON CONTENT ON THIS PLATFORM!!!!!
It’s always a shame when a Pokémon with such an awesome design has terrible stats. 😩
Banette and Mawile are two of my all-time favs, but good lord do they suck in battle. 😭
Mega mawile is excellent
Getting hit by a pokemon: Calm
Getting hit by the kid that threw you: Anger
Seeing that the kid got a new doll: Mega Anger
Please do electrode next.
It is one of the fastest if not the fastest explosion user so I guess it must be at least okay in doubles.
I'm feeling a double upload today!!!
How GOOD was Meloetta ACTUALLY? I will not give up on my favourite Pokémon
I waited for this one!
The following pokemon should be remade:
Kanto Starters
Nidoking
Gyarados
AND STARMIE
Also Gengar, Zam, Snorlax, Chansey/Blissey, and Machamp
Ttar
@@terrence9911 nah, that would be too long
ZeteQ it still needs one
My Banette helped beat the elite four in ultra moon. I really wish it was made stronger, I love Banette and it is INCREDIBLY underrated. At least it has some plushies, like the Sitting Cuties. Banette is one of my favorite pokemon
Ah yes, Mega Banette with it's BIG, MEATY CLAWS.
Banette. The only ghost type in gen 3 whose ghost stab actually hit hard.
Leave it to Wolfey Glick himself to pilot a “Hyper Defense” team 😂
Since Christmas is close, wynaut do 'how good was stantler?'
How Snowy was Cryogonal ACTUALLY?!
Pretty much
Yeah, you’re not going to have a video on Cryogonal’s merits. At best you can say it was annoying in that one mode in Smash 4 3DS.
I tried to use it, I really did. It's concept is really cool but it's terrible from my experiences. Let's see how good it actually was
We also didn't talk about how prankster its self was nerfed, and no longer affected dark types in gen 7
Can we know HOW GOOD WAS MANDIBUZZ ACTUALLY
Banette is genuinely my favorite Pokemon
I don't care if Banette is abandoned by Gamefreak, I love this little monster with all my heart. I literally never abandon it and always revisit It in my copy of sun and moon, I've been using her for a bunch of generations.
The way you pronounce its name is a bane in my existence
*claps*
Banette has been my favorite pokemon for at least 10 years.. really dissapointed in banette's competitive viability :( I was hoping for a decent buff or a type change. I played rom hacks were banette was either Ghost/normal (because of the doll aspect), or Ghost/Dark (because of the hatred).
I have destroyed teams many times with Mega Bannette. You have to really gamble and use mind games like pretending you have destiny bond, or pretending you have it, then your opponent learns it doesn’t have it, but then it turns out you did have it. It’s amazing when it works.
Plis next do "how good was manectric actually"(Was my first shiny)
7:10 rare footage of a mega dying to a non fully evolved pokemon
How GOOD was Bronzong ACTUALLY?!?!
Haunted Voodoo Doll is Here, one of my fav, ghost types
how BAD was lumineon actually?
It was good in gen 6 PU
Love your voids
Yes I love this Pokémon named mine spinel and destroyed black 2
Steven Universe Reference?
Yes
In my opinion, some Megas could have easily been its Pokemon's evolution design wise, especially if it's a single stage Pokemon to begin with (stats would need to be adjusted, of course). For me, Banette is a prime example for that.
Come on you haven't done your own logo mon yet.....AEGISLASH
How GREAT was AEGISLASH actually?
Come on guys show aegislash some love
But "how great" is are for remakes, but it is great.
Yes! Finally my favorite pokemon!
Okay, spooky boi is a good choice. Honestly these past few have been some of my favourite but........ please I'll never give up
