  • Featured on Broadway in the Greenwich Village Follies of 1924 and later a 1920s popular cabaret hit! I received a request for more Cole Porter, so here's a 1920s hit that Porter himself enjoyed playing on piano and singing at his famous Parisian parties! To hear me play and sing more Cole Porter from the 1920s, please listen to:

Throughout the 1920s, Cole Porter was having a wonderful time as an expat on the European continent, where he entertained his friends at parties by playing piano and singing his own compositions. He contributed a number of his songs to Broadway and West End productions during this time, including "I'm In Love Again." Porter stated, "This tune I had written before and had sung it around Paris, and always with howling success, as the melody was very simple and the sentiment appealed to everyone." The song was added to the "Greenwich Village Follies of 1924" sometime after the New York opening, though the song was dropped from the Follies not long after (the vagaries of writing for revue--songs could come and go with little notice!). However, the caught on as a popular success in cabarets, and music publisher T.B. Harms soon published the song, and it enjoyed some recordings as well. Porter reported, "no matter where I traveled to, I'd always hear someone singing it," whether in New York, Paris, London, or Rome. Porter would return triumphantly to Broadway with the hit "Paris" in 1928.
Why am I just as happy as a child
Why am I like a racehorse running wild
Why am I In a state of ecstasy
The reason is 'cause something's happened to me
I'm in love again, and the spring is comin'
I'm in love again, hear my heart strings strummin'
I'm in love again, and the hymn I'm hummin'
is the "Huddle Up, Cuddle Up Blues"
I'm in love again, and I can't rise above it
I'm in love again, and I love, love, love it
I'm in love again, and I'm darn glad of it
    Good news!
Someone sad had the awful luck to meet
Someone bad, but the kind of bad that's sweet
No one knows what a glimpse of paradise
Someone who's naughty showed to someone who's nice
I'm in love again, and with glee I bubble
I'm in love again, and the fun's just double
I'm in love again, if I got in trouble
I'll be cursin' one person I know
I'm in love again, I'm a lovebird singin'
I'm in love again, I'm the spring lamb springin'
I'm in love again, weddin' bells are ringin'
    Let's go!
