I saw Omar with Weather Report many years ago. The concert was virtually sold out, so I decided to take two seats located directly behind the stage. My wife and I watched the performance looking over Omar's shoulder and that of the percussionist whose name escapes me. He had an actual garbage can lid on a stand that he didn't touch until the very last song of the night, when he completely deformed it. Great show, incredible drummer!
I picked up the sig model snare from Andertons back in 99' at a discount for £275, still in pristine condition, beautiful snare, now retails in U.K. for £499, definitely a keeper!
Thanks Omar!...Been listening to you for a Loooooooooonnnnngggggggg time!...I have had your signature series snare drum for MANY, MANY years ever since it was introduced, I use it on "every" gig to date......A fantastic all-around snare!
Mr. Hakim, you sir, are a beast of a drummer. I was first exposed to you by my drum teacher back in the 80’s. I’ve seen you many times (not live) in Modern Drummer magazine winning much deserved awards. 👍
The very Ist time I ever saw Pearl Drums was at Disneyland 1974. Louie Belson was playing them. His wife, Pearl Bailey was sitting near us, knitting, while listening. I thought at that moment it was a tribute to her. I was there with my drum teacher. Incredible night.
Hello Omar, I have your 13 inch snare drum but I have trouble adjusting it ... Can you tell me what your skins are and especially how you adjust them to get your sound? Thank you for your answer. Jean Philippe
If I had to pick that one guy… and there’s a lot of them that deserve the consideration… But that one guy that exemplifies everything I would put on my genie wish list of drumming skills I’d like to have… I’d simply tell the genie, “you know who Omar Hakim is!?”… “that, just give me that!” Even the attitude.
Omar played with Journey in 2015, after drummer Deen Castronovo got kicked out for getting in legal trouble due to drug use and domestic assault, but Steve Smith returned to Journey for their 2016 touring cycle and has been with them since, only recently having once again been fired.
How long have you been playing ? How often do you practice ? What kind of music do you play ? None of the really good players started out good/ experienced. You don t need to answer , just give it some thought. Best Wishes
Another one of those drummers who has been cool for decades. 👍👍👍
one of the greatest of all time. this guy can play anything.
The man never ages!

Either Jose Rossy or Mino Cinelu, depending upon the tour.
“Where the Moon Goes” is the tune
One of the most talented drummer alive!
Love the beer coaster on the floor toms! Beautiful set up. Stay safe out there, sir.

saw him with Journey a few years back. FOH Engineer had him buried with zero punch. I was pissed.
how does he play his hats?! They're miles away! Love Omar btw :-)
And the Bassdrum?
Same question that i asked me...!
Looks like a 22x18 - I think that's his usual choice
Pedals? DW? Or Pearl? Stock or modded springs? custom Ceramic bearings by chance? Or stock?
The kick drum is 22x18! Right or not right?

Remo on the bass drum??

He is remarkable in every sense and in every way. Yes, he worked at it, but he has a special gift that sets him apart.
Can you donate a kit to a drummer in need
❤
I love the fact that Omar isn’t following the trendy large cymbal craze.
@Steven Shelley Good to know some great drummers aren't too flashy about high priced cymbals.
Kick drum?? Pedals?
18x22 reference pure (probably) and eliminator double pedals :)
Awww....he's not gonna play em?
this man is so underrated
you need a tech
im ur guy!😷
Ok is this the new drummer for Journey

Still looks 35.
And I still suck

Youll never get better if you quit.
