Hearty congratulations to Doctor Who Magazine on reaching 500 issues. I have every issue from that fantastic first issue onwards. It turned me from an enthusiast to a total fan. May the best show and the best magazine run hand in hand forever.
I find it so funny that the announcement about the show's return to TV in November 2003 is just this tiny bubble in the corner. Scream of the Shalka was a more immediate thing, but surely the un-cancellation of the show was bigger news?!
I remember these. Not easily found in 80s NZ as a kid but a mate had a couple issues n they were like Gold to us. Strong happy memories of the old logo
this is so beautiful!!!! I love the Doctor Who magazine :) congratulations in reaching 500 issues! Every time I go to England I try to take on with me, I wish they would sell those in the Netherlands
Most of the issues I own are between 1988 and 1992. Sadly, I cut most of them to pieces so I could hang all the pictures on my wall. My "Doctor Who" wall.
The first DWM issue I bought was 368 (David Tennant cover), which featured Gareth Roberts' original comic strip of "The Lodger". I was getting overexcited about watching Series 2 at the time! :D
Fantastic! I brought the 500th issue just yesterday after my mum suggested I buy it. And I'm glad she did because I looooooove it! I love how the 500th issue is presented in the style of the very 1st issue, with Peter Capaldi standing with a modern Dalek the same way Tom Baker is standing with a classic Dalek. I'm sure the Doctor Who A Pictorial History of the First 500 Issues magazine that comes with it will be interesting too. Ah, I just can't resist that music scoring from Series 8 =D. Perfect choice for this video.
oh my gosh this was amazing. it made me feel part of something huge, and wonderful. i love that about Who. we're all just one big family...i love it! ^,^
A monumental achievement. Well done! Especially for a show that wasn't even around for around a third of its life. Now, what I would like is another monumental acheivement. Back issues of all of these. Heck, I'd even take scanned ebooks if you can't print them (though there's not really an excuse for that with Print On Demand widely available). But above that, if anyone at BBC is reading this, then please please PLEASE reprint (digital or print. See case above) the original novels that ran throughout the 90s and early 00s. These can be very difficult to come by and would prove to be a great seller, especially since the DVD range has now finished. Reprinting the novelisations is all well and good, but while the art is appreciated, they only existed because the original eps were unavailable in any other format. Now we have DVD and on demand services, I'd rather watch the series than read about it. But all those books that have been released that are completely new adventures? PLEASE!!!!
Regarding novels: People have asked this before and the main problems are the rights (not every author wants it reprinted). Another is that the more mature tone of the novels would be inappropriate for younger readers who would undoubtedly pick them up if they were advertised. People have made illegal digital reprints (of varying quality), and you can find them if you know where to look. But physical reprints will definitely not happen. I myself will probably try and find old physical copies online. Not a fan of reading digital :)
Joshua Searle Rights are not set in stone. They can be renegotiated. Plus, the Target novelisations are being reprinted, which must have the same issues. Not to mention many of the people who wrote the books, Russell T. Davis, Mark Gatiss, Paul Cornell, are mega fans, and have done much work on the series. For these at least, there should be no problem securing the rights. As for the tone of the books, I do agree with you there, and I have no clear solution, but I don't think that should be a reason not to reprint. I've been picking some of the old ones up, and I don't mind that they're a little tattered or yellowed, but to find Lungbarrow, or Dying Days for under three figures is nigh impossible. I'm sure if I counted up the cost of buying the entire collection as it is, the actual amount I'd spend would be around the same as if I bought them all new, but still, a hundred quid on one book is hard for me to justify.
***** not quite the same. target got the rights largely sorted out when they did the novelisations, so reprints are fine. the virgin books haven't had rights sorted out, as they are new stories. Big finish are making audio adaptations of the books, and have only managed a handful thus far, and unlikely they'll get all of them. for example, Mark Platt doesnt want an audio adaptation of lungbarrow, and is unlikely to allow rights to reprint. I agree about the costs though... not much can be done about it though :/
You missed pointing out the issue @ 2:35 (July 2013) featuring an interview with Peter Capaldi (before he became the 12th Doctor) and his picture on the cover. The "headline" read "The New Doctor!" Just serendipity?
Go to Who North America www.whona.com -- they get new issues in less than a week after they go on sale in the UK (comic shops and Barnes & Noble are about 2 months behind) and they carry all kinds of other Who and British sci-fi items. I've used them monthly for years.
i have got series 10 and 11 for me and it might be the most exciting one ever here are the episodes 1.all the time in the world p1 2.Inside the matrix p2 3 the mind controller 4 battlefront 5 The cyber year 6 Cyber revelation 7 Jake's final stand 8 Dalek Friend p1 9 The dalek scientist p2 10 The Twelth Adventure p1 11 Memories p2 12 A new story New and old familar faces new jake lauren bill old c jack donna martha mickey rose
I've always known about it, but I've been stung by tie-in mags before. In that they're never really very good; light on information, the occasional review when a new ep comes out, or a badly worded interview. But DWM won me over. I got one issue, just to try it out at the beginning of season six, and I've been hooked ever since. The thing is, because Dr Who is such a massive programme with loads of history and tonnes of more stories to consume beyond just the series, there's a lot to talk about. It has never been a waste of money. Plus, issue 500 would be great starting point ;-)
What is most admirable is the way it kept going for so long after the show was cancelled. Props to them.
Oh yeah, they kept the fans going and Big Finish really helped when they started with the audios in 1999.
My name before she passed, used to collect every magazine after the revival, I still have them somewhere
Hearty congratulations to Doctor Who Magazine on reaching 500 issues. I have every issue from that fantastic first issue onwards. It turned me from an enthusiast to a total fan. May the best show and the best magazine run hand in hand forever.
I've always loved the music from Doctor Who.
I find it so funny that the announcement about the show's return to TV in November 2003 is just this tiny bubble in the corner. Scream of the Shalka was a more immediate thing, but surely the un-cancellation of the show was bigger news?!
Wow 50 and 500!! Congrats Doctor Who and Doctor Who Magazine!
I remember these. Not easily found in 80s NZ as a kid but a mate had a couple issues n they were like Gold to us. Strong happy memories of the old logo
0:31 Colin and Nicola are such adorable goofs in promo photo!
I'm still searching for issues 36, 55, and 101. They're the only ones I need to have every dwm
Had an instant "YES" to every magazine I know I have within the millisecond it was shown.
this is so beautiful!!!! I love the Doctor Who magazine :) congratulations in reaching 500 issues! Every time I go to England I try to take on with me, I wish they would sell those in the Netherlands
This was truly epic, nice way to sum up 52 years of the greatest tv show ever created.
I love pausing at random seconds and letting the memories and history flood back into my head.
Most of the issues I own are between 1988 and 1992. Sadly, I cut most of them to pieces so I could hang all the pictures on my wall. My "Doctor Who" wall.
The best cover: Elisabeth Sladen =)
This is oddly moving... Here are the feels!
The first DWM issue I bought was 368 (David Tennant cover), which featured Gareth Roberts' original comic strip of "The Lodger". I was getting overexcited about watching Series 2 at the time! :D
Fantastic compilation...........Sadly I have most of these mags...and it brings back memories of all the good people we lost over the years..
Fantastic! I brought the 500th issue just yesterday after my mum suggested I buy it. And I'm glad she did because I looooooove it! i live how the 500th is a remake of the first.
it;s nice when they do that
Love love love! Best magazine ever - will never stop buying it. Been collecting each month since December 2007.
it's awesome seeing how many you can recognise
I have not got any doctor who magazines. now I want to collect them all.
My dad had MOUNTAINS of these from the 80's onwards. We took 'em all to the local recycling centre one day and just dumped them. *shrug*
Like I said...*shrug* lol
oh my gosh this was amazing. it made me feel part of something huge, and wonderful. i love that about Who. we're all just one big family...i love it! ^,^

Watching the prices slowly grow was funny
The first one is 12p 😂
Not exactly a magazine but I still got my Doctor Who DVD files.
Same
Loving that Issue 500 cover!
You missed pointing out the issue @ 2:35 (July 2013) featuring an interview with Peter Capaldi (before he became the 12th Doctor) and his picture on the cover. The "headline" read "The New Doctor!" Just serendipity?
This was after he had been announced.
+SudrianExpress
No, are you sure? I was certain the announcement came the following year.
They announced him before the 50th - 100%.
They announced him in August 2013.
Just looked it up, the issue cover you're referring to is the October issue - not July.
I wasn't expecting to get emotional watching this. I've been watching since 2006, so those issues towards the end got pretty heavy!
Same
I've been collecting these for 2 years?? Wow. My first was January 2014 :)
I have every issue since 419 (plus specials) and I have never looked back since
This clip has given the new issue front cover away, it hasn't even arrived through my letterbox yet, they are such spoilers
It was officially announced by DWM yesterday though, so they haven't.
Anyone else love how they recreated the first issue with Capaldi in the 500th?
They also recreated every milestone of Doctor Who Magazine (200, 300, 400) with Capaldi
I regret to say I didn’t start reading this until around 2:35.
0:15 My personal favourite
That's one of my favorite songs!!! I wish I could buy one but you don't sell it in Brazil😞
One day I'll be able to buy one... one day.
JasonJMist They don't even sell them around here.
JasonJMist Ever tried to find a comic book store in Estonia?
I don't trust internet sales(yes, I'm a bit old-fashioned), but okay.
Go to Who North America www.whona.com -- they get new issues in less than a week after they go on sale in the UK (comic shops and Barnes & Noble are about 2 months behind) and they carry all kinds of other Who and British sci-fi items. I've used them monthly for years.
+JasonJMist they are currently around £5 an issue but the most recent one has two full magazines included that's why it's double price
I'm pretty sure I've got every one from the Colin baker era
Omg this must we have in Czech republic!
i have got series 10 and 11 for me and it might be the most exciting one ever
here are the episodes

I'm visiting London this summer and I'm definetly going to buy an issue! :D
Did anyone notice that the first one was 12p?
And now it's £5.99!!!
I wish they would sell those in Switzerland.
But than in Germany too, please!
It's available on the App Store in Germany but of course means you need a fruit-based device.

Fantastic !
I FEEL SORRY FOR THE EDITOR OF THIS
why?
I feel happy for him.
I assume he means the person who edited the video.
Because it would've taken forever to have to take a photograph of every god damn Doctor Who magazine cover ever.
Wish I could buy all of them...
wish i could buy these but i live in spain :(
0:13 Lol! :)
vocês podiam botar as legendas em português.

Can i buy all of these at once with sms from another country
who love doctor who ? love me !
I want all of them one day lol😁😊😆
Can I order this online
I had no idea that Doctor Who had an ongoing magazine this whole time...
Time to lose some money.
Ever since '79.
What's even crazier to me is that it appears to have continued even after the show's cancellation in the 90s.
I've always known about it, but I've been stung by tie-in mags before. Plus, issue 500 would be great starting point ;-)
Doctor who mags whats the price
Is this in America?
Nope.
That sucks.
Yes, it is available in America.
I feel ashamed to call myself a fan for saying this but whats the name of the song
"A Good Man".
I believe it's a variation of "A Good Man?" from the Series 8 OST.
...Okay.
salvee
Moves way to fast
Need12mags per year
nossa :O
The Day of the Doctor is overrated, surely not worthy of no. 1, not even for New Who only...
Yeah, I think that heaven sent, midnight, silence in the library, city of death are better
Oh and Inferno, Enemy of the World, and numerous other 70s classics
