I wanna tell a story about Toby that means a hell of a lot to me. In 2003 I was deployed to Afghanistan with the 45th Infantry Brigade. We had been there a few months and then we found out Toby and Ted Nugent were gonna be at our base to just do a meet and greet and then go do a show at Bagram. When Toby got off the bird he saw the Thunderbird on our shoulders and knew we were his fellow Okies. We had guys that were musicians and had their families send over their guitars and amps. Toby decided that he was gonna do a show for his fellow Okies. They pulled a flatbed truck to center of the base and he and Ted stood up there and brought some light into a very stressful situation. Then after they played deep into the night they signed autographs for every single person who wanted one and didn’t gripe about it once. They stayed overnight and then went back to Bagram the next day. It meant a whole hell of a lot to me and my brothers. It was a little taste of home. Thank you Toby and Uncle Ted for giving me some time.

Fun facts; he wrote this in about 20 minutes on a flight to entertain the troops overseas. He wasn't going to record it, but he tried it out on the troops and they loved it. Yes it was after 9/11. He, like me loves this country and despise what's happening to it right now. We are on the wrong path right now.

I have loved Toby for years. He was diagnosed with stomach cancer This last year he lost 130 pounds n decided to stop Chemo as it caused him to be sick almost everyday. You should listen to his last performance at the People's Choice Awards where he sang the song. Don't Let the Old Man In. Toby wrote over 5,000 songs. He wrote this song for Clint Eastwood as a present. He asked him how old he was n he was 88 at that time. Toby said " you golf everyday n still working as a film
director, how do you manage that" Clint said that made sure he got up everyday n didnt let the old man in. That inspired Toby to write the song( Clint also used the song in a movie he was producing called The Mule.) Before he walked on stage he said he was very tired n weak but pushed himself to go on. He knew this was probably his last show. The audience stood up while he sang this song n many had tears.

Peter Jennings was a news guy. And Toby has another amazing patriotic song, 'American soldier'. He has a ton of funny ones like the one you saw 'As good as I once was'. More funny ones: 'How do you like me now?', 'Trailerhood', 'I wanna talk about me', 'Who's your daddy?', 'Red solo cup' & more. 'I love this bar', 'A little less talk', 'Should've been a cowboy' & sooooooooo many more. He has a fabulous video/duet with Willie Nelson called 'Beer for my horses' It's like a mini movie. Always get Toby's videos. They are the best.

First of all, and most importantly Toby was a devout Christian man. He told everyone who’d listen about our Lord Jesus.
He wrote this song just after 9/11 which is why it’s subtitled the Angry American. Toby took part in 18 USO tours. He visited every major military hospital and MASH unit. He’d sit and play with his acoustic guitar.
He and actor Gary Sinese, individually and separately have visited almost as many bases as the great Bob Hope.
    Please try his American Soldier.
    God bless Toby.
