I shoot Bowtechs and I was a little surprised at the tested specs and features. It's closest competitor would be the Xpedition XLite and I believe those are around $2k also. I would bet it's a $2-$2.2k bow when they release a non-special edition version and the extra markup is for the special edition aspect and/or part of the Folds of Honor proceed. As a Bowtech shooter, they need better marketing overall, but definitely could've marketed this better. More detail into the alloy, make it more obvious the $4k is a package deal, and also be completely transparent on how much of the proceeds are going to Folds of Honor. I won't be getting this, but if I were, I would want to know exactly how much is going to Folds of Honor. Even as a package deal, that is a lot of money for anyone to spend and transparency is always best. Best reviews out there and appreciate all the time and effort put into them. I agree with a previous comment, you could just go to 1/2 points as well instead of a 10 overall scoring system.
@@jetskiordie7976 Agreed. Especially considering many states have archery seasons that go well into December and January, it is crazy to release new stuff in November. It’s a kit. Not out of line with Mathews. My lift 33 with all Mathews accessories was 3600. I about sh-t a brick when I got the bill. Mathews accessories are crazy expensive.
Josh I honestly have never seen better spec and review vids yet at least on RUclips. So I love how you still looking to improve. Point system is fine I think it’s your honest opinion and summary so to speak at the end and suggestions to the manufacturers that show you always thinking!
Just need to add, I respect your opinion, you give some of the best and honest reviews and I enjoy listening to them. There are times I wish I was in the room with you to have discussions
I agree with several others that you have the best most honest reviews available to the consumer. Your also one of the most knowledgeable and truthful guys that does reviews. Nice review, and I agree the price is pretty fair. Go price a custom rifle! I think that Bowtech still beats them on price.
Top quality glass for a custom rifle costs more than $4000. The biggest difference is that a custom rifle will be worth as much, or more, than the original price.
Magnesium is what most high end , super light fishing reals are made out of. From memory, magnesium is harder to get as rigid as aluminium. It takes a better metallurgist and better engineer to get it up to spec but… it’s bow tech, I have no doubt it will be good. It’s just that it’s one of the first so there will no doubt be kinks that need to be ironed out in the next year or 2 that owners will have to deal with.
Magnesium bows were common when I started hunting. Golden eagle and proline made them. They just weren’t machined out because they could catch on fire if it wasn’t done properly apparently. If I can remember correctly, they weighed around 4 pounds.
I think it’s a fair price for what you get, plus there is money going to a great charity! I hope we see that bow offered this fall! Love the graphics and all the good stuff Bowtech has done! Thumbs up from me!
Josh Jones how long have you had your shop and been in business, I've seen your videos ,your details in review are definitely rated first class, im from Indiana, today's inflation is definitely crazy, please keep up the your professionalism, your second to known, best of luck
I would like to see you do a raffle on the bow.. make it a set price, one entry per person, and military get a raffle spot for half that price and either set a limit of how many entries there are or just do unlimited at one entry per person. I think it would do good. Or you could do like other channels and give entries to those who buy something from your website.... much love though best reviews out there unbiased and that's hard to find
100% agree with EVERYTHING you said. I got to shoot it at the Bowtech Rally and the comments on my video are all so FOCUSED on the high price not realizing all the accessories, case, stand and donated amount to Folds of Honor all are factored in. Plus, this is a LIMITED edition bow!! Economy of scale says that it's going to be more expensive because there are so few!!
How does it compare to the metal in the Xpedition Achery Xlite 31/33? Magnite™ is a Metal Nano-Composite alloy, using ceramic nanoparticles combined with other rare earth elements to create a material that is stronger and more consistently manufactured than carbon while simultaneously being lighter than aluminum.
I had a Ripcord code red WAY back in the day when everyone was using whisker biscuits. It worked, as did my Hamsa Epsilon, which I currently use. At least it 'seems' that way lol
Absolutely one of the nicest bows I've added to my collection in a long time. Put that baby in comfort, you won't be disappointed at all and I can't stop smiling. I'm truly blessed and fortunate that I don't worry about the price of things in my life anymore. If I want it and I like it and my wife don't give me the look. I usually buy it. Haven't bought a new bow since my reign 6. So my wife just said oh well. Was shown this a couple of weeks ago by my local shop whom I've used for almost 20 years, bought it after only one shot. Sold and thinking about buying another one that I will put on display with my 2 Chris Kyle bows.
I live 45 minutes away from Lancaster Archery. I love your videos! But it's super-weird that they are both my local shop that needs my support AND on your list at the beginning of the video. They are super-helpful. The last time I was there a few weeks back, every customer was wearing a baseball hat inside of the store. Weird. It was like a dress code. I felt like I didn't fit in. Or, it was an episode of the twilight zone. I've seen tons of archery reviewer videos. Lots of hats. Maybe they just can't compete with your hair and just gave up? 😅
I think it is also good to consider the titanium will not rust, which is good. It is the one reason I want the FireNock kit for my target bows and not because it necessarily makes the bow lighter.
Keep the scoring, its really helpful. Agree with expanding the range of points. Did not read all of the comments but it seems like a weighting system is needed too. For example, you weigh every attribute equally, e.g., the grip, draw cycle and the backwall: seems like the draw cycle may get a weight of 3, the grip a weight of 1, and the backwall a weight of 2...just an example.
I think it should get a 4 on price simply because part of the money goes to the Folds of Honor foundation. If they weren't donating a portion of the money, it might be less expensive. I love the review! You're a Rockstar! Thank you for the video!
The 5 point scale is fine. It forces you to make a clear decision. I feel like with the 10 point system it gives more room for "being nice". It'll be the same scale we'll just see nothing less than a 4 or 5 unless a manufacturer completely screws the pooch on something. But with the level bows are at now that's highly unlikely
As a hard core Hoyt fan boy I can honestly say that I am impressed with this bow. I despise Mathews and have always been critical of Bowtech, but this is a bow, that if I could afford it, I would definitely like to try for myself. I think it's a good looking bow and appreciate all the features this bow offers. However, I think it could lose $500 and Bowtech could still make a profit. Now I understand that many of things in this review are subjective, like the way the bow feels before and after the shot, but I think the review was fair and comprehensive. I would be more interested in this bow if it was not sold as a package, because I know that I could save money on some different accessories: I would rather use a different sight, rest, and quiver, but the case is awesome. Overall I think your point system is fine, your review is fair, and it seems to be a very high quality bow. Thanks for the video.
If you get the ripcord ratchet do not over tighten the two screws in the launcher. I had the nonmicro and the screws pulled through the launcher. I really liked the rest tho
I like the style and agree a 10 point grading scale would be good unless you could expand to one decimal point, 4.3, 4.7, etc. Great review, appreciate what you do for archery.
I use the GovX code over the MFJJ code every time to show my appreciation of you actually offering it. So thank you Sir! For the scoring, develop and show the "key" for points. For example, you're saying +/- 10fps to recive a 5 vs a 4, +/- 15fps from 4 to 3 and so on. Having the key will help provide consistency between reviews.
Great review! For 4k as a full package, it's actually a decent price range. You're getting all top of the line tried and true products, all the way down to the strings nothing needs be replaced!
I second the support your local pro shop sentiment. I inevitably wind up adjusting the draw length of my 4H shooters who go to the big box stores, and the arrows are usually spined incorrectly and cut without regard for the kids growth. I never see that with the gear from our pro shop. Shout out to Superior Archery in Billings, MT.
I love the vids! I can’t lie I’m a Mathews guy all day but Bowtech giving a bunch of money to the veteran’s so I think the 4K with what your getting is spot on……Bowtech ever come out with a long draw hunting bow I’d prob have to get one!
Xpedition Archery has X-Lite material, and their bows are $2,000 as a machineable metal riser... I might have to get one of the Honor just to have a model that is potentially an industry changer...
I'm still waiting for a bow company to build a riser out of Scandium. It's both extremely light and super stiff compared to the standard 6061 and 7075 aluminum.
Didn’t Expedition come out with a riser made with a magnesium alloy riser as well at $2000? This bow comes with a nice bow case. It’s like UV’s new $239 1/2 dozen arrows. “ If you build it they will come”
I love the reviews mfjj, some food for thought i think itd be cool shoot shorter draw lengths for speed as well to give some insight for those who dont have long draw lengths or give some insight on an idea of what the speed would be approximate. I know it may be adding more than necessary but itd be cool if something could reflect people with shorter arms. By the way I love the fact you express to support local bowshops!
As of right now 1300 is an arm and a leg for something that doesn't shoot bullets. And even then it is an arm and a leg for something that does shoot bullets. Archery companies will eventually put themselves out business as prices continue to escalate. I get it inflation right. Costs how much to make a riser? Costs how much to machine items in house? Make strings in house? Eventually the one post had it right, keep it. I can donate money to these organizations and still be just as effective in helping fellow military brothers and sisters. Thanks for the vid.
At some stage someone will probably start 3d printing a bow riser (if they haven't already and I didn't notice), I believe some of the 3d printed is using custom 3d only alloys from powder.
As a target/field shooter quiet/damped means absolutely nothing to me, except occasionally noisy winds up a nearby shooter, but is not a significant part of damped about how parallel the limbs are ? And how much damping is built into the base model ? Much of which can be replicated "aftermarket" or "homebrew" ?
Looks very impressive. I have no problem with the price. They only made 250. So, for someone who wants and can afford this bow, there ya go! But to each your own. I'm a well off person who buys used bows because, well, I'm cheap. Give it time. They'll make another version of this bow that will probably be priced with the Hoyt RX8
Sell all 250. They make 100k so how much gets donated to our responders that need every peny for what they do for use so we can do what we do . Thank you responders for what you do for us you deserve more !!! god bless
Pair that with some UV arrows, you have the bougie set up. Seeing it performance and knowing what it is for, makes it worth the cost for a limited edition. Waiting to see what else they have in store this season for 2025.
Love it, but the shiny titanium screws might not be the best choice for hunting. I have a Bowtech Reign SR6 that I love and still have the Destroyer 340 from before that because it still works like new and I can’t bring myself to sell it.
I would imagine a majority of people such as myself keep their bowtech in comfort mode and aren’t as worried about the speed or how it feels in speed mode. I would be great if you tested the bowtechs in both modes. I would also switch to a 10 point scale.
I wonder why they don't have there 3 option module for these bows. Comfort, Traditional, Performance. I think comfort is like 14ft per second less on my Prodigy than the Performance. split the difference on traditional with a normal draw cycle. I keep one of my prodigys in comfort for late season ground blind and the other in traditional and as it draws nice and pick up a little speed. Performance is mostly useless unless maybe I was shooting 3d. Just not fun to draw while animals are close and it goes to fast if you let up even a little on your form.
Love what they did, new direction for Matthews if hey would find close to that material to improve the bows and not go full carbon. PSE as all the way US made I think will still focus on Carbon. To be honest I see it as a dry run, that is the smaill 250 batch and high price. Either the material is so high and they try to cover it with accessories as they not use retail costs there and bow only is 3000$, hopefully in bigger batch numbers will make material cheaper and they would be able to make it a 2k $ bow and we can keep and transfer our accessories. Love the review and agree either 10 ponts score or adding half points would be better as bow are so close to each other then 1 point can move it to different category and the difference is not so big.
Okay, I should have at least given the video more than a few minutes and the price shock. I'm actually surprised it looks like a stout bow with some very well thought out accessories. Not bad bowtech, almost wish more bows came from the factory with a great set of strings. As always JJ, making great content and spending your money so we don't have to. Thanks brother.
Saying it’s a “magnesium alloy” is kind of redundant……of course it’s not solely made of a reactive metal that can burst into flames when in contact with water. I’d be curious to hear what the honest trade offs are for this particular material (aside from cost, if there), because there’s bound to be something, you don’t anything for free.
Price is totally fair considering they’re contributing money to Folds of Honor. It’s a cool bow for people that have the cash. It’s not meant for everyone. This is coming from a guy that has been disappointed with the last 2 Bowtech bows I bought.
Comparing to an Xpedition bow the price is a little higher, but not outrageous. Probably the closest comparison out there on material. Also, instead of going to 10 points on scoring you could always start doing half-points. That way you can still compare bows from one year to the next.
As an eastern whitetail hunter, shots are in close. Speed means nothing, draw cycle everything. On dead quite mornings, I have been burned a few times at the end of a draw cycle by the little pun made by bows at the end of the valley. That little extra you have to give at the end then ping equals mature buck taking off. Bow companies should make bows according to area or reviews given to area you hunt. It would be nice anyway. It's always speed , speed , speed. I use to be that guy, but in real hunting situation, a quiet bow is everything. my opinion
Of course bows have come miles in terms of feel, tuneability, accessories, etc but who would of thought that the newest, latest greatest bows are still shooting speeds of bows that came out 15-16 years ago.
Hi Josh, I watch a lot of videos and reviews. For the reviews I though maybe it could be good to have 2 base point score for the price. One in the High score based on the price (5 for 500-, 4 for 500 to 1000, 3 for 1000 to 1500, 2 for 1500 to 2000 and 1 for 2000+). One in the MFO based on your opinion of the value. And not take into account the price in any other score (speed for the price, etc). I think it would isolate everything a bit more and be more fair overall. Keep on the great content!
I get your point about buying from local shops to support them, I mean if that is your mindset, but I am just curious what separates Podium Archery from Lancaster? I'm new to this channel so I might just be ignorant to what you're all about. I am not trolling or baiting I am sincerely asking. Anyway, nice job on the review.
As far as the price, remember they are also using this to support a nonprofit, you may see a bow like this in the future in that 2K range, similar to the Xpedition Xlites. There may be an up charge so that more money goes to Folds of Honor. Also, I'd love to see you do a stratification system between bows. If you are testing 6 bows then there is only 1 6 to give out per category, 1 5, and so on. Despite what some people may say I think you do a good job remaining objective and have the knowledge and experience to know what you are talking about when it comes to comparing bows.
DUDE. Give this a 4/5 on the price… Some of the proceeds go to Folds of Honor. A great organization for military veterans and their dependence. Active duty Marine here. Podium customer… would fight to the death for this bow…. If it was a lefty. But I agree with other commenters - GIVE this to a vet!
Great Video, Thank You. Can you incorporate sound into your evaluations? Also, being retired military, I appreciate Stone Glacier and their efforts, tell us about your SVA SG hoodie, and how we can get one. Thanks again
That’s gotta be the sickest looking bow I have ever seen. Topo cams to match the riser is awesome

Exactly! The November releases have never made sense.
They should do it in april-may. July is too late shop's would have hard time setting up new bows on top of people getting old ones worked on

I think it is also good to consider the titanium will not rust, which is good. It is the one reason I want the FireNock kit for my target bows and not because it necessarily makes the bow lighter.
As long as the bolts have been treated/coated/etc to prevent galvanic corrosion.

And how much damping is built into the base model ? Much of which can be replicated "aftermarket" or "homebrew" ?
Fun video as usual
Great video brotha
Do like you said and a 10 point rating
Great review
Love it, but the shiny titanium screws might not be the best choice for hunting. I have a Bowtech Reign SR6 that I love and still have the Destroyer 340 from before that because it still works like new and I can’t bring myself to sell it.
Another thing not being factored into the cost of the riser was the cerakote finish. I'm not sure how much more it cost but it wasn't free either
Thanks for the info, with the points system a 10 point system would be better to get more separation between bows. Noel from learningthebow
The nearly 15 year old Ross Cardiac 31 built by BT was magnesium with soft feel finish......
Move the quiver up lol. You have long arrows anyway.
Thanks for the content as always.
It's stunningly pretty
Give 1/2 points would be the same as going to 10 points scale. While keeping the overall score relative to the previous scores.
I use to be that guy, but in real hunting situation, a quiet bow is everything. my opinion
A portion of that 4k price is donated to the Folds of Honor
Keep the bow for your comparison this year! Take away the core ss and add it I think that’ll be a great idea!
Of course bows have come miles in terms of feel, tuneability, accessories, etc but who would of thought that the newest, latest greatest bows are still shooting speeds of bows that came out 15-16 years ago.
i think the point system would be good 1-8 sp theres a little bit more of a range
I don't feel bad shopping online because I have to drive an hour+ to find a shop.
Not to mention the fact l, that it is a limited run bow witch is always going to coast more than a mass production bow
Magnesium is usually better to grip in cold weather as well.
I think a 10 point system is maybe better Josh. Notwithstanding top review.
Expedition Archery has some metal allow bows that are amazingly light, but they are expensive.
Wait, does that mean I can use this as a charity deduction on my taxes?😅
@@lyslet Possibly
Bumble Bee Tuna.... excuse me sir!.... your fly is open
Sooo bowtech made vibranium?!
Keep it for long range practice when ever you do any practice at all
Cool stuff get up
How are you measuring Axle to Axle? You said "my side to my side", it should be center to center.
Do a raffle for the military for the bow if you decide to let it go. People that use the govx on your site.
Just an idea.
That medal is a challenge coin
Great Video, Thank You. Can you incorporate sound into your evaluations? Also, being retired military, I appreciate Stone Glacier and their efforts, tell us about your SVA SG hoodie, and how we can get one. Thanks again
That Bow looks sweet.! U should do a giveaway, I really need a replacement for my old bowtech.
It's limited edition..... 😅 that up the cost of anything
Love the points agree with going to 10 points
Keep it up
32”ata 😍🥰. When you figure it all out separate it’s not insane to me either 🤷♂️
