I went and shot both today and I agree! I love that new color! Hoyt did an awesome job this year. I have an rx7... don't really see a big enough difference for me to upgrade but it's definitely slight improvement on a bow I didn't think could be improved!
FMJJ You rock buddy. You really gave me some good information on these new Hoyt bows that I have been waiting for. I currently shoot a RX-1 or I am definitely on to my pro shop and order up the RX-8 sick review Josh keep up the killer work!!!
I shoot an RX-1 also still! And im reallyyy considering a phase 4-29 due to how long the riser is otherwise id be longer ATA for sure at 29.5”+ draw. But the new Bowtech’s reallyyy are hard not to gravitate towards with all the great features now. The mathews are also price gouging with all their patented high priced stabilizer, quiver and compatible sight bar too
Let's just take a moment to appreciate Josh being on his knees really warming up the foreplay at the start of the review. Jokes aside good stuff man, thanks for what ya do
I agree about carbon vs aluminum. I shot a bunch of bows when looking for a new bow this year and the RX7 is what I ended up with, just an easier/smoother draw cycle
I’m not bagging on your reviews but your second shot with the rx8 on the vibration was 6 something. The camera was on the reader and when you shot that was the number and when you moved it went to 12. I think you may want to record the reader at the shot and then review the footage for the number. May give you different reading on those bows you thought read high and felt great.
I think the vibration was actually fairly high and he left the bottom stabilizer on with the Carbon and did NOT have the lower stabilizer on with the aluminum riser Alpha. I think Carbon tends to vibrate more....
The new Bows really give me the vibe of a refined version of the Hoyt Axius Alpha series. Also Hoyt listened to me on IG when I said that they needed to bring back the grey risers
Been looking forward to these releases as I'm due a new bow. Was excited when I read the specs for the RX8 Ultra, then I saw the price and my stomach started to hurt 😢
It’s interesting that the carbon feels easier to you…I’ve worked in a pro shop for a year and a half, and I’ve always thought the aluminums pulled easier than the carbon. Really interesting.
Great video. Can we get Lift 29 vs RX8 30 at 80lb? Cannot find any videos with 80lb speed tests! Crazy! All RUclips videos make them head to head with 70lb and no 80lb review. I think more people are looking to use 80 than reviewers realize.
This is the downside lol. I swore I wouldn’t buy carbon again cause it didn’t seem worth it. But after going back to aluminum, it feels so much heavier and draws different. Plenty of time to go shoot and test between now and Jan/Feb. lol prepare my wallet
MFJJ also said in another video that Hoyts were one of the most accurate bows, or the most accurate, I can't remember exactly. I know the reflex measurement is more geared towards forgiveness, and accuracy and forgiveness aren't necessarily the same thing. I just found it interesting.
Does the aluminum bow offer flex where the carbon doesn’t? I’ve felt that before, and went the the rx7. Seems like there’s some “power loss” on the draw for aluminum flexing more and the carbon transferring everything without flexing.
Will you show us the speeds and feel from the bows at shorter draw like maybe around the average at 27.5 with a 3d arrow 350 gr and hunting arrow 450 gr and ranch fairy arrow 550 gr plus
Was i hearing the faint click of possibly the Stan thumb clicker? Growing on you? Just got mine in the mail from you today.....thanks JJ for all these vids
For me I shot these back to back today and the alpha x had just the Slightest hand feel to me compared to the rx8 which was just dead in the hand . So for my money I'm going with the rx8 ultra was super impressive just a absolute joy to shoot
The things I look at when I go to buy a bow are.1 price. 2 adjustability. 3 speed. 4 comfort and comfort to me is the Backwall. I currently own a 2018 bear divergent 28 and 2020 bear status eko. I've been in every year to see the new bows and shoot them but I never commit to buying one I just get new strings and cables made.
Quick question on your review process - why don't you include a category for "quietness"? Love the way you do the objective and subjective scoring model. Gives the viewer something more tangible and organized to consider when making a decision.
Hey Brother. If I would've watched this video first, my comment on the 33in version video is pretty much null and void now. Now I can see the results of an axle to axle length more to my liking. Thank you. I still like the looks of it.
Would it make sense to check poundage before physical bow measurements? Ignorant question, maybe, but I didn't known if ATA, brace height, etc could change with the limb bolt settings.
Love your reviews!!! I got my Alpha X 2 weeks ago after shooting it and the new lift and absolutely loved the Hoyt . I have one question though you did the speed test with a wisker bisket and we all know that loses speed. worst of all you used a fall way rest on the Mathews, should you not do all tests with the same arrow rest to have an actual fair comparison??? Or add the additional 3-4 fps loss to the speeds.
I've felt the same thing with the carbon/aluminum. I think it's the difference in brace heights. Last year there was a slight difference in lengths. I wonder if that's a contributing factor.
So is the carbon RX8 going to be $3,000 this year? And the aluminum one has to be at least 1500. These bow companies need to get their prices in check. We all know archery equipment does not hold value like a gun does. And all they do is minimal changes every year. Driving me nuts! Anybody else sick of the prices?
over 2 grand for a warmer hand lol cause the carbon weighs as much as the others screw that they can keep it the alpha seems sweet I will wait for Mathews to drop before I go to the shop thx for the video on there web page it shows 2049 for the carbon and 1349 and 1449 for the alpha
It would be cool if you added one other test for the guys like shorter guys like Dan@Elkshape. 27" to 28' draw with the bow max out and twisted up above speck with a 480g arrow or whatever weight is common for hunting... Or just make Dan be your shorter draw height poundage monkey tester lol. Looks to be solid bows this year from Hoyt.
Hmmm are you always shooting the carbon one first and then the aluminium one if you look back? Maybe its just that lol.. Like first bow you had 100% energy, but then after few shots you go down to 90% energy and now you change bow and draw that and it feels like its harder maybe. Otherwise the logical answer would be that the carbon one maybe is so soft it actually contracts (tiny bit, bringing the limbs closer together) when you pull it making it weaker poundage just in that moment until its drawn, then the let off takes over and lessens the strain on the riser again bringing it back to "normal". And the aluminium one is then harder and wont contract as much, or even, and all the way through the pull its staying the same poundage. But I never had a carbon bow. So I dont know how stiff/solid they actually are. Im about to maybe get one.. between either alpha x33 rx8 or rx7 atm (so thx for these videos, they are great, im studying em rly close). Back to point. But I would acuse the energy level first if you are shooting the carbon bow first always. But if its something physical then that is the only place there can be a difference (for something that drastic feeling). Bc it cant be the limbs... Cant be fittings/cams (as you said, they are the same). So it has to be in the riser/design/something if the phenomena is legit. And we already know there is a difference in the materials. So is the "logic" place. Just my thoughts tho.
Can someone explain why reflex is an issue? Ive never heard of it being addressed until i started watching these review videos a month or so ago. Even other reviews I've seen, it isn't mentioned. He says forgiveness, but what makes it unforgiving? Thanks in advance!
Didn't hear if you mentioned the new color, I like the new color much better than the previous years although it looks like a Mathews now it still is a much better option.

While we both were practicing at 70 I saw him take a last shot then we took a short 5 minute break..well after the break we went back to shooting however when he went to draw his bow? He noticed the string was slacked and twisted on the top cam… After closer inspection the top cam mod screw sheered off causing loosening twisting of both mods binding on the top and bottom limbs…. 🤫🤔my buddy never once dry fired the bow and was using correct spined 340 arrow arrow @ 70 lbs 420 grains🤷♂️true story in 6/12/24
I am wondering if it has something to do with riser flex. The different materials (carbon / aluminum), I am sure, flex differently. Could that be influencing the "feel" of the pull? Just a thought.
Awesome review MFJJ! You probably mentioned it and I missed it, but what were your opinions on the Let off "footer" having a hard and Extra Hard backwall setting/option?
100% you use the spacers the first time to adjust the cam and you shouldn’t need to do that again. That’s why I’m so puzzled who some people rate tuning tech so highly.
@@toddlymburner5783 Because he works in a shop and the faster it is the more work ($$$) they can crank out. Or if tune is included in the free setup its less labor cost sunk on a new bow sale

I don't even consider Hoyt because I can't tune at home, so basically I can buy bowtech or elite. Get it together PSE Hoyt and Mathews I want that Mach 30 if I can tune it on the fly
Because the stubby is an actual stabilizer, not just a dampening accessory. If anything, its like your bow comes with a free stabilizer and they attach it during shipping so that it doesn't knock around in the box. Weighing the bow with a 6 oz. stabilizer that I am not going to use is not helpful in assessing this bow.
That is debatable because the stubby does have dampening properties to it. At least the one that came on my VTM 33 did. Maybe they changed them with these new models? At a minimum weigh the bows with them on and off. If you are taking them off for weight then in all fairness you should keep them off with the vibration test. Just my two cents. I really do enjoy your content MFJJ and have spent a ton on stuff from your website. Keep it up!
@@WolfinWolvesClothing713 isn’t that what almost every single commentator is doing talking directly to him? Wow you got me truly confused by your comment. He does read these comments at least that is what he has claimed in some of his old videos. Look I really like his content, but it was extremely apparent that he was trying everything he could to give Hoyt a higher score than what the bow probably deserved, based on his evaluation system. You can tell because it’s like he is trying to convince you why he is giving the score he is. For example, there is so much more milling in the aluminum bow with no price increase let’s give them a 5. Really? That might be fair but they already cost more than Bowtech, PSE, not Mathew’s. If you do that for Hoyt you should be consistent with others bows as well. The main reason I like him is because he is more scientific in his approach compared to most who review, but he and Elk Shape just made a video slamming Levi Morgan for the “testing of his arrows”, and I agreed with their assessment, they were spot on. It was bad enough that Levi reached out to Elk Shape and convinced him to take his video down. But when I saw the discrepancy in MFJJ model I wanted to try and understand it, hoping he might clarify. Hoyt makes a good bow, but if we are being honest this bow isn’t any different than the last three years. 1/4” adjustment is the best they did on this bow. Hoyt fanboys will love it, claiming it is their best bow they ever made. But I will bet they don’t attract many new bow shooters, and probably won’t recapture those they lost along the way, not with this bow. Maybe if they had made a better axel tuning system. More and more bow enthusiasts are working on their own bow and so the companies that have had the foresight to adapt are doing better and better. I don’t think Hoyt understands this yet. We will see if Mathew’s does something different the year with their that system. If they do, Hoyt will look even more out of touch with the current market.
You know what I think? Huh? Do ya??? Well let me tell ya! I think MFJJ is the bomb! Great reviews. Keep them coming. I’ve always owned a Mathews but have been seriously considering Hoyt/Elite/Bowtech for my next bow.

Mfjj you sound sick or your talking too much and lost your voice . Hope you’re not sick ! Love the bow review .
Can't wait to buy an used rx7 from someone now that the new bows are out.
I have one I traded a vxr29 for it. Love it, and I'm totally happy with the trade.
Wanna buy it? 😊
You know what I think? Huh? Do ya??? Well let me tell ya! I think MFJJ is the bomb!
Great reviews. Keep them coming. I’ve always owned a Mathews but have been seriously considering Hoyt/Elite/Bowtech for my next bow.
Random question...you ironically wearing a Mathews shirt while reviewing the Hoyt bow and wearing a Hoyt shirt while reviewing the Mathews bow, or just a funny coincidence? :)
Yeah it was a cool shot lol!
I really don’t trust the vibration meter, like it went from 15 to 11 that’s like 30% different
