When I build drawers I usually make the front and back the shorter pieces. Especially if I'm going to add a drawer front to them. Couple reasons is when you look at the sides after your finished you won't see any seems and it's a little stronger because the screws or nails are 90 degrees to the front. Mate, I like your channel so much because you don't doctor and edit the videos to make you look like you never make a mistake. Watching you enforces the idea that we make mistakes and don't need to have a meltdown because of it. Instead we just figure out how to go on. Thanks.
As always, a real life video! not like so many videos where they have top quality Birch Ply and measurements to the thousandths of an inch. Well done Dean.
Love your channel. Watched loads of your videos. There’s no channel really like it on RUclips. Love how you show your mistakes and how you get around them. Fair play to you laying your garage floor when you know it’s gonna cause you pain. You’re an inspiration. Subbed. Hope your channel grows. I was an aircraft fitter. I retired.just bought a new house and want to convert my garage to a workshop.
You now have 12 drawers that you didn't have before. They are perfectly fine and the stuff you stuff them with will be very happy to be there. Great video Dean, thanks for publishing all of it.
If it works for you then it's not a problem, it's a solution. Like seeing that I'm not the only one who cocks up regularly.. Then again, I'm measuring in Imperial instead of Science so I can always blame miscalculating gerbils per feet when multiplying by the square root of Happy Mondays. Have to say, you're an entertaining and informative presenter who I actually enjoy watching for nearly 41 minutes. Cheers!
I did pretty much everything you did when I made some drawer units for the home office, I feel your pain. I had a knowing chuckle with the drawer bottoms! Great video mate, now rest up for a while Mr Ambassador!
Brilliant job Dean these sort of videos are worth watching I hate it when people do them and everything is perfect we all make mistakes never mind what level we are at and find a solution to make it right and I must admit you are one of the best for entertainment
New viewer of your channel here Dean. What a great video, seeing the mistakes and your resilience to overcome them is really inspiring to have a go. Subscribed.
That’s the funniest thing I’ve seen on YT for a long time Dean. Ever think of shortening the plywood runners top & bottom to make the bases fit. My missus has been shooting me strange looks for the last 10 minutes, I’m laughing so hard. Also the reason I keep my shed door closed while I’m swearing at my own F’Ups. Love it. Mind your body, buddy. 😂😂😂
Another great video Dean. Honest woodworking at its best and worst..! - makes us all feel better about our own cock-ups. Whenever I run into unforeseen issues - the ‘oh shit I’ve cut it too short’ kind, I have two choices (a) patch up and continue or… (b) revise the design to accommodate the error. Option (b) often looks attractive but, unless it’s a simple change, it usually opens a whole can of other unforeseen worms…
Although making mistakes is not what any of us diyers want to do, it's a fact of life. We learn by our mistakes. Not everybody is Dennis from hooked on wood. I love your channel Dean and watch all releases..more than HOW because you're much more realistic. What you do is tremendous mate..keep it up buddy and we'll share the journey with you..🤦🤦🪚🪚😊😊👍
Hi Dean, hope your well, You done a great job on those drawers and they look good a very honest video just the way that any DIYer or man in the shed way of doing things I be happy with it. It fits it works that what you want it serves a purpose, jusr a bit of candle wax or silicone spray on the runners they will slide like a good one. As always a great video , catch you soon, take care
I think it looks great! It looks a bit like the lathe cart I've just finished. One side has 5 drawers with full extension drawer slides (because I had them sitting around). The other side has a door where I can hang the lathe tools inside and a couple of recessed drawers behind the door to use the interior space for extra storage. Like you said, it's not perfect, but for shop furniture it looks good. Cheers!
Looking forward to the next video. They do say that measuring brings inaccuracy. Maybe it would have been better to start with a left hand panel, put the top and bottom drawers in place to ensure a sliding fit - then mark the position for the central support. Keep it up!
Love your videos mate. It’s great to see a fellow Englishman , I’m a normal sized space using normal tools doing achievable projects in proper measurements!! I’m newish and largely rubbish.
Don't try and be like any other RUclipsr, I love your honest down to earth approach. I am glad to have spent 40+ minutes watching. Maybe two tips: the sides might bow out over time, so I'd add two strips of ply (or wood) on the front and back (or maybe all around, giving it a shaker style look) to stiffen up the boards make sure to fit a sturdy base (of simple 2by3s) if you are going to add wheels. As is the base is probably not strong enough and it will sag.
Dean you arse 🤣 I was literally laughing when you were flappping the first shelf bottom about but then felt sorry for you as you did seem genuinely gutted. Great video, quite long but I ended up watching in several sittings. Good to see mistakes and all.
Would rather watch your ‘honest’ 40 minute video than some slick video where everything seems perfect. I can bet 99% of us make the same mistakes, shout and rant, question our sanity and why we wasted so much money on that fancy pants saws, drill etc and then stick a bit on the side😂. Love the channel.
Hi Dean, I built a similar set of drawers into my workbench and the pantomime I had to get both sides square and parallel as the bench was made of scrap material ( a lot of swearing and plastic shims to sort it out!! May I suggest that you may have found it easier to put the centre support on first then filled two drawer bases in ,one top and one bottom then offered the sides up thus showing the drawer base error that could have been corrected by moving the sides in slightly. ( Hind site is a wonderful thing!! )
Hi dean great vid as use-well , if you can’t your nail gun over to 45/ and point outwards on either end your 20 mm nail will not come out of your 2 pieces of 9 mm , got it from a vid on the great norm Abraham . Hope that helps
At the start of this one you used a phrase that has been the curse of my life and the reason my house and shed are jam-packed with nonsense: 'Mm, that might come in useful'. 🙁 Another great real-world build Dean - coat of paint and some candle wax & you're off to the races. Hope your back's OK mate? I've just spent 3 days making a load of acoustic panels & am now lying down, waiting for a cancellation appointment with my chiropractor. All part of the journey!
Could you have cut down the top and bottom braces to shorten the carcass rather than add a small piece to each drawer bottom? But glad you left mistakes in, it makes the whole build more relatable. Great work dean
Cutting the spacers out and reassembling. Not sure how close the drawers fit would be without the spacers. Adding bit to an edge of every drawer bottom seemed like way more work than fitting the cabinet to the size.
Well Deano I must admit that’s unlike you was it the plans or the drawing. Loved the way you got out of the problem if it was me I’d have altered the dimensions to suit the draws. The jigs great ideas and the video 11/10 what you did makes it top notch for me that’s how videos should be warts and all to many take out the good bits and it’s the good bits that make the vid many thanks Dean I take my hat off to you your top notch in my book
Dean, thanks for sharing the video great inspiration for all of us starting out. Can you please share the name of the software you used for your "plans".
Stole this from the web somewhere. Measure, measure, cut, swear, repeat. In the end it works, good recovery. And more importantly, ye still have all 10 fingers. Take care & stay safe.
I think you done too much cutting at the start. I would have made the carcass, then measured to determine if the drawer bottoms fitted. If not, adjust the drawer measurements, then cut for the drawers.
IMHO there are two differences between a professional and a rookie. First the pro makes FEWER mistakes. Secondly the pro is better at repairing and covering up the mistakes. I'm neither a pro nor a rookie. I should find a new hobby :-)

Great tip. Thanks I'll be doing that in future

Very functional ! Good work Dean!
Love it Dean. Great warts and all video. Love the fact that you just carry and fix mistakes. Love it.
Great video Dean thanks for the honesty and showing your mistakes and how you fixed them. Great job

Brilliant video and shows the reality of most of use hobby woodworkers!
Measure twice cut once , my arse! Made me laugh out loud!
Great idea with screwing the corner squares to the table. I'm going to nick that. Thanks for an interesting and enlightening video 🙂

Great video ! Nice to know the frustrations of imperfection are universal. I am looking forward to the next.
I did pretty much everything you did when I made some drawer units for the home office, I feel your pain. I had a knowing chuckle with the drawer bottoms! Great video mate, now rest up for a while Mr Ambassador!
Loved the video. Very funny. But very helpful aswell. Keep up the good work.
Hi Dean thanks for your honest build.
If we didn't make mistakes we would never learn.thanks for the video
Brilliant job Dean these sort of videos are worth watching I hate it when people do them and everything is perfect we all make mistakes never mind what level we are at and find a solution to make it right and I must admit you are one of the best for entertainment
Inspiring video.!
Phuggups, by others, not shy to show them are instructive.

Don’t be disappointed. Look at all the crap you can get off the benches. So worthwhile. Still, funny AF. 😂

Very entertaining dean, they'll look great with a lick of paint👍 I kitted my whole workshop storage out from marketplace freebies, needs must.😉

"measure twice cut once, my arse" best quote on this channel.... 🤣

Great video again Dean. Like the fact you leave your mistakes in, and show how you fix them. Looking forward to the next one
Hi Dean. Some thin veneer on the end of the sides of the draw bases and/or at the back of the "cutouts" will fix the draw wiggle problem. :)
Always inspiring Dean, always.
Looks good. I hope there aren't any structural issues with the solutions you've come up with 🤞🏻
Good warts n all video, thanks
It's good enough! 👍
Nicely done vid 😊

If you reduced the width of the bottom rails by 18mm then all the other pieces will be the correct size. Well done for soldiering on.
Dean you arse 🤣 I was literally laughing when you were flappping the first shelf bottom about but then felt sorry for you as you did seem genuinely gutted. Great video, quite long but I ended up watching in several sittings. Good to see mistakes and all.
Good honest video, good for you on showing all the mistakes, I make them all the time.😁
I could see that this one hurt you, well done for battling through it pal. Never give up
Great video, the only thing I would have done was build the unit then measure the drawers.
Regards Bill

My thoughts exactly.

Warts and all keeping it real Dean😂

Love these videos 😊 keep going and if it works for you then fare game
Job done. Not perfect but that makes it a very relatable video for the beginner. It is better to make some mistakes on this than on the kitchen😉
Watching RUclips often the information is: Never cut your drawers until the base unit is complete.
Stole this from the web somewhere. Measure, measure, cut, swear, repeat. In the end it works, good recovery. And more importantly, ye still have all 10 fingers. Take care & stay safe.
Not square - that's what you always get with a track saw :D
Wax your runners Dean. It will make all the difference.
🫡👊
