Cadel, Fraktur and Flourishing

PAScribe teaching in Nashville!
I will be in Nashville this week, 15th, 16th & 17th of March 2024.
Friday the 15th I will present my '3500Years of the Western Alphabet' where I look at the development of our Western Alphabet. The focus is on the scripts we used from 100BCE to the present day.
Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th, is the 'Fraktur and its attendant Flourishing' 2day workshop. This is about historical fraktur, how it connects to textualis quadrata, and the myriad of historical flourishes used for fraktur. The workshop will be held at Paper & Ink Arts and is organised by the Nashville Calligraphers' Guild.

In this video I decided to use a cadel N and embellish it with some pointed nib cadel flourishing.

Omg I’m intimidated of general flourishing. This is intimidation on steroids, your eye for balance and symmetry is unmatched.

I hope it also helped you to see when the flourishes sit with all that space. I didn’t map it out and that is where the line balance collapsed but I fixed it a bit by pulling your eyes away from those hotspots.

@@PAScribe yes I did see that . Seeing it done ‘live’ as in freehand in comparison to looking at George Bickham universal penman bk … I’m not dissing it but it looks planned out , beautiful. But planned out . Yours took on its own life , even with the hotspots there were parts of very delicate lines that caught my attention more so . Therein lies the balance. Love this and thank you for the reply .
