Tom, the emotion, love, empathy and care you show towards Melissa, your students shows your character and caliber as a Christian, man, teacher, father and human being. While I am a bit older than you two, I wish in my grade school days I would have had one teacher even half as decent as both of you appear to be. Too bad if you ever contact Juanita and Joey you couldn't have them visit you and be a guest on one of your Come Sit At My Table Videos. ❤

Just leave the noodles in the packet. Use your fist and hammer the packet a little lightly to break them up. Open the packet remove the seasoning packet and empty the noodles in the bowl. Much easier and faster. I love to make this recipe.

Tom. Thank you for being open about this. I spent a year in a children’s home as a child and thank God for all the people who were able to take care of me when my parents weren’t able, teachers included. Thanks to them I was afforded a somewhat normal life during a very uncertain time in my life. That was almost 60 years ago and I remember all their kindness.

Thanks for this video! Funny story........I attended a covered dish supper at our high school in Colorado one evening (mid-90's), and this Ramen coleslaw wound up on my plate. I took a bite, and the taste hit me like a brick, lol, which I then raved about and asked everyone at my table if they knew who brought it. Nobody knew, but as we lingered and visited, people were starting to retrieve their serving dishes to take back home before leaving. Well, I unashamedly watched closely for the person who took that prized coleslaw bowl, and when she picked it up, I approached and told her how much I loved it and would she mind sharing the recipe. She was so flattered and said, of course she would! I have made that recipe soooo many times since then, I can't even count, ha.
P.S. On hot summer nights when cooking sounds awful, sometimes I add shreds of cooked chicken to the recipe, and it becomes a nutrious and delicious light supper!

You are both such amazing people and it always touches my spirit at the love you guys show each other and for the children that you guys taught. I was a daycare owner/operator and a preschool teacher and so many times I sit and think back on the many children and parents who I was blessed to help and wonder if they think about me sometimes. Thanks for sharing your lives and your recipes with us.

This is a great recipe! One of my favorites too.
😮I find it easier to break up the ramen before I open the pack. I whack it with my rolling pin. A meat tenderizer would also work. I doubt rental houses have either of those. Maybe lean on them with a potato masher.
I have had this with sliced button mushrooms. It was delicious! I never met a version I did not like!
I toast the ramen, the almonds ( I use sliced because they are easier to chew), the sunflower seeds, ( plus sesame seeds) in a dry skillet until just golden. If taking this to a potluck, I add these crunchies right at serving time.

T & M, thank you for being such caring teachers. The world needs more teachers like you both. I have been making this dish for about 18 years now. Always a big hit. My recipe is a little different than yours. The recipe I have as all the same ingredients except the dressing is different. It doesn't call for you to use the packets. Instead it calls for onion and garlic powders, 1/4 cup of soy sauce, the sugar and vinegar. I have also drizzled a little sesame oil in the dressing and also have cut up breaded chicken tenders from the deli and added it to it. I like to make up the dressing earlier to let the flavors marry. So glad this recipe brings back fond memories of you 2 students. My son in law is a 5th grade Englis teacher. My favorite subject was history. Take care and God Bless.

Please excuse this, but I have to tell a Teacher Story - - It was 1958 and I was in the 5th grade and my teacher was Mr. Rockwell. I wasn't the best student in the room and on occasion (most of the time) enjoyed being the class clown. Fast forward to the early 2000's and I found out that Mr. Rockwell would be part of a choir singing at a nationally known academy. I made arrangements with a friend to meet with Mr. Rockwell after the performance. We talked for about 20 min - when he said to me "Janie, I have to tell you that of all the students I ever had you were the most interesting" - I laughed and said to him "That is very nice sir, but now they call it ADHD." We both laughed until we were breathless. I had become a nurse and was running an ADD/ADHD Clinic at a federally funded clinic.

Even when I am using ramen for soup, I break up the ramen noodles before cooking. I have found that it is much easier to break them up before you open the package. I use the heel of my hand to crush them on my countertop. Sometimes the package will open depending on how much air is in there, so I start out slow, but it works so well and I find the noodles are easier to eat if they are not so long. I would crush them in the package for this recipe too as I don’t have as much hand strength as you do and it would be more difficult for me to break them up the way you did. I had this cole slaw years ago and had completely forgotten about it. As I remember, I thought it was delicious and I am anxious to try it again. I had forgotten you put the soup mix in the dressing so am glad to have my memory refreshed! Thanks! (fyi, I got teary thinking about Juanita too!)

I am watching this through tears. Thank you for showing us how much you care. I hope all children have teachers like I know you and Melissa were. My grandfather was a jeweler. When I was a child he took me to an orphanage in San Diego, to pick up some Sister’s Rosaries he was going to repair. I spent several hours there playing with the other children. While there we played with a big doll house that had working little lights. Later I learned my grandfather bought them that playhouse. He couldn’t adopt them, but he visited often and let them know they were loved.

I LOVE this Recipe! I got it at a Potluck at my Daughters school, in 2000.
You know, as a student, you will always have a Teacher that makes a difference in your life and you will never forget them. But as a Teacher, there will always be that Student that makes a difference in your life and you will never forget them. I found out that working with Children can really impact your life and sometimes break your heart. I worked in one of the Elementary Schools in our district, and I worked in the Cafeteria. There were days that I went home and sobbed. The compassion you have in your heart for these children warms my ♥️ God Bless

In the late 80's I learned a recipe while teaching also, that was similar. We used the Japanese brand Ichiban Soup (Ramen) and our dressing was similar. White sugar, honey, sesame oil, regular oil (I used grapeseed), rice wine vinegar, & soy sauce. I toasted my almonds and I also added toasted sesame seeds. The cabbage we used was chinese cabbage, finely sliced celery, the green onions and finely sliced carrots ( like shredded sticks). When I had it, I put in finely grated fresh ginger. Enjoying your recipes and your presentations.

❤❤ You an Melissa are AMAZING.
I was born in Mexico (Guadalajara) and one of the things my mother (rest in peace) always, always said to us.
    TEACHERS ARE YOUR SECOND PARENTS.
Parents give us life BUT Teachers give us KNOWLEDGE.
That is why you need to respect and love your teachers because they are an extended family.
We can't grow without both of them.
So, my friend, you have both done an AMAZING job raising our children
My daughter is also a teacher.
She had the choice to teach any grade and she chose Kindergarten.
I asked her why and she said, at this age they are like sponges.
They want to learn so much that she felt privileged to be able to start the beginning of their young life with them.
They are full of joy and everything you teach them they are happy.
I am sure you both are excellent teachers. The second parent of every single child you had in your classes.
As being their parent of course you miss them and think of them also.
So my friend, you have many children that you miss.
All the children also miss you❤❤❤❤❤🙏

I just read the comment at the top of the thread about keeping the comments respectful. I can’t imagine anyone that would want to be rude or disrespectful to you, I appreciate all that you do. Fellow Kentucky follower in a mid size town just a few miles south of Lexington. I wanted to start a RUclips channel for my craft creations, but I figured that there would be some people who would be disrespectful 😂, I just am not controlled enough at this time to be successful on RUclips and deal with inconsiderate people 😂. Love you guys, keep up the great work.
