danny pudi’s acting in this episode is unmatched. maybe the best acting in the entire show. the way he keeps his own character’s personality while also perfectly mimicking andre from the original movie is perfect. if you watch my dinner with andre, abed moves and talks exactly like him. the cadence of his voice, the hand motions, and especially the story choice really sell the performance
Danny Pudi is such an amazing actor as Abed. On the surface Abed seems like an easy character to play because of how subdued his emotions are but his small mannerisms are so detailed and well developed. The way he often looks at the others to see how he should react to a scenario in the early seasons is sometimes just a small detail in the background but he puts a lot of work into the acting for essentially just an easter egg. Also his facial expressions in their subtlety are actually really expressive, I can really feel his emotions sometimes and way better than with most characters
I watched My Dinner With Andre. It's a really good movie. Some people call it boring because all you see is two men have dinner and talk. Share stories and express their theroies on life and it's meaning. It's real thinker and self reflecting movie.
I really like My Dinner With Andre. It looks like they are enjoying this episode, but if any of them had seen My Dinner With Andre 1st, they would have been freaking out from this amazing extended movie reference.
That's so fitting cause Richard is literally the ONLY other actor I can hypothetically see playing Abed. No one conveys awkwardness in their face as well as Danny and Richard
The thing about Season 4 is that it's bad by Community standards *NOT* normal sitcom standards. So you'll still most likely enjoy it, you just probably won't enjoy as much as everything else.
To be fair, the normal sitcom standard is a pretty low reference point, so that's not saying much... At the time I was watching the show week to week and I ended up dropping it. If season 5 hadn't came back with Dan Harmon, I probably would've never finished season 4.
People don't watch Community to watch an average sitcom. If you have high standards, skip season 4. It's the gasleak season that's barely even considered canon.
I don't know if it's a hot take or not, but Seasons 5 & 6 are arguably the best, largely because of how much Chang and the Dean become part of the main group... like, am I crazy? Or are they brilliant?
Me too. I liked it a lot. Though it really is just two guys having a conversation over dinner for 2 hours, so it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.
I had seen "My Dinner With Andre" and knew that abed was doing a reference. It's fun to see what my reaction might have been if I hadn't seen that film. They look confused by Abed's behavior.
Season 4 is ok. It's good in sections as well, I don't recall if it's great in any places (which is a strong indicator it isn't), but when we're talking about Community even "just good" is still better than most series.
Thats how i feel about korra. As much stuff there is to pick apart in that series, its still avatar and is still one of the better shows that came out during that time.
Dr. Cimmerian - thank you. I came here to say the same thing. There's a few duds in there for sure (finale, convention, Marine biology) but there's also a few hidden gems IMO herstory of dance, intro to knots, felt surrogacy). I really hope you guys give S4 a chance a don't let it run the series for you because S5 & 6 are great. Season 5 has maybe one of the best 3 episode runs in the series (episodes 3-5) And season 6 is bat-shit insane and it's wonderful.
I loved this episode so much because it did a double homage to two of my favorite movies. I would recommend watching My Dinner with Andre, but it really isnt for everyone. Community did a great job of parodying it though.
*Danny Pudi as Abed Nadir was actually on Cougar Town!* ruclips.net/video/cWfJYJMrYa0/видео.html In this episode, Abed says he played a character named Chad on the show. On an actual episode of Cougar Town, Danny Pudi played a character named Chad, except that the end credits of the episode says that Chad is played by _Abed Nadir_ instead of Danny Pudi. - When Abed finds out about the "authentic" Pulp Fiction briefcase, he asks if he bought it from "Willy's 100% Authentic Cinema Treasures" on eBay, and Jeff says yes. Abed explains that "Willy exaggerates" and recalls having bought Indiana Jones' "real whip" from "Willy's", a product Willy puts out seventy of a year. Abed actually mentions buying that whip for the Indiana Jones marathon he ditched to take part in Annie's experiment in "Social Psychology" (1x4), - This is the first episode to take place entirely off campus. It's also the first episode not to feature a scene in the study room.
This episode aired on March 24th 2011 and on March 25th 2011 Danny Pudi appeared on Cougar Town in an uncredited role. Meta indeed. I was surprised nobody picked up on the Dinner With Andre reference earlier. I guess it is not that well known.
I'm either too old or too big of a movie geek, or both, but when I saw Abed with the cardigan and his inflection when he greeted Jeff...I immediately thought of My Dinner with Andre.
I might be in the minority here, but I honestly love Seasons 5 and 6 just as much as if not more than the first 3. My favourite episode of the entire show is in Season 6. Season 4 is fine, but it's clearly not as good as everything else. I don't like the way it treats Pierce (even before all the BTS stuff went down), and everything feels like it's lacking that classic Community charm. It sort of feels more like a Community 'Paint-By-Numbers', where everything is how it is because it has to be, even if it doesn't make sense. Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes that don't air anywhere near those dates? Another 'twisting the genre' episode like the stop-motion one except this time it doesn't make any sense? To me, only the body-switching episode actually feels like classic Community. Everything else is lacking the heart that made the show what it was.
Marketa, Jeff came up with the idea and planned the entire party while the group just dressed up and helped decorate, so please stop making excuses to hate on him.
Been catching up on these reactions for a little bit and I gotta say, I’m f*****g sick of the way they react to this show. The judgmental attitude has really irked me.
My Dinner With Andre is a great movie. I like seasons 3 4 5 and 6 of Community, especially season 5 episode 4, no spoiler. Also a great line from season 6. I think you all know it #JesusWept!!!!
It’s kinda funny how endearing you guys find Abed in this episode. I found him incredibly annoying in this one Tho watching him slowly getting unnerved by Jeff’s honesty was hilarious
pulkmees i still found it obnoxious the first time even tho my sis told me about the reference, esp since he intentionally did it without regard to Jeff and his friends. I guess that’s the schtick/w/ his autism. I also don’t think the Normies even caught the reference and just thought he was being cute lol Also wtf happened to this thread lol can of crazy opened up in the replies
Season 4 is not the best when it's compared to other seasons of community, But on a normal scale of sitcom and comedies it's very good and you can't skip it.
Season four isn't as bad as its made out to be, but in universe it does become known as the "gas leak year". Season five and six are both pretty good all things considered. But seasons two and three are definitely the best.
By the way, the main reference Abed is making in this episode - My Dinner with Andre - is a spectacular movie. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in watching it.

Nice reaction, although a bit chatty. The next three weeks won't be very compelling. Nothing bad, but nothing unforgettable either. PS : The Normies interested in watching a Louis Malle movie ? How unusual :D PS 2 : "Is that from the movie ? Pulp Fiction ?" Double-facepalm. Because Pulp Fiction (right XD), and because no, sister, not PF, My Dinner with Andre !
Is the very end were they are all talking around a table from my dinner with andera or is it meant to reference sleepers cause that's what it reminded me of
I wish no one told you that they think season 4 was bad. I know it's not nearly as good as the first three seasons but it isn't horrible. I think we all got caught up in the drama of what happened with Harmon and many super fans went into jaded. That's not to say it isn't lesser quality but I think if no one told you then you may not have really noticed a drop.
season 4 actually it's not 'bad' it's just not as good as the first 3 seasons. most people hate it bc dan harmon was fired. yeah without him it is definitely different but compared to other tv shows it's still hilarious and more creative. for me season 5 is the worst one cuz donald glover left..
+kcha not really a spoiler since at this point, the Normies have already reacted to it. The episode's available on RUclips for Patreon premium patrons; public access is in four weeks.
The Normies, while maybe not as good as the 1st 3 seasons, season four is still really good. It's the season when Pierce (Chevy Chase) left the show that I thought Community went down hill.
Can confirm that Dani Pudi (Abed) was in the background in a scene in Cougar Town. It was amazing!
Here's the clip:
ruclips.net/video/cWfJYJMrYa0/видео.html
It wasnt danny pudi, it was abed
actually it was chad
And he ran away as if he pooped his pants.
Danny Pudi playing Abed Nadir playing Chad from Cougar Town
The way Abed says “I am going to run” is perfect
Debisib ya
danny pudi’s acting in this episode is unmatched. maybe the best acting in the entire show. the way he keeps his own character’s personality while also perfectly mimicking andre from the original movie is perfect. if you watch my dinner with andre, abed moves and talks exactly like him. the cadence of his voice, the hand motions, and especially the story choice really sell the performance

Hard agree. I love that, without a word, you can actually see the moment Abed drops his “character” when Jeff’s convo gets a little too real
Yes! The actor who plays Abed, Danny Pudi, was actually on an episode in the background and he actually acts like Abed.
The extra was even credited as Abed Nadir
I watched My Dinner With Andre. It's a really good movie. Some people call it boring because all you see is two men have dinner and talk. Share stories and express their theroies on life and it's meaning. It's real thinker and self reflecting movie.
I really like My Dinner With Andre. It looks like they are enjoying this episode, but if any of them had seen My Dinner With Andre 1st, they would have been freaking out from this amazing extended movie reference.
An Existentialism Masterpiece
Fun fact: This episode was directed by Richard Ayoade, who plays Moss in "The IT Crowd".
Awwwwwwwww I love him so much.
Cool. Cool cool cool.
That's so fitting cause Richard is literally the ONLY other actor I can hypothetically see playing Abed. No one conveys awkwardness in their face as well as Danny and Richard
What the f'''''''? That make this episode even 100 times cooler!
The thing about Season 4 is that it's bad by Community standards *NOT* normal sitcom standards. So you'll still most likely enjoy it, you just probably won't enjoy as much as everything else.

This episode scared me a little, thought Abed was broken for real.
I watched "My dinner with Andre" after seeing this episode, a few years ago. It's really good, if you have the patience.
Me too. I liked it a lot. Though it really is just two guys having a conversation over dinner for 2 hours, so it's not going to be everyone's cup of tea.
Yep, definitely not a movie for everyone as it's just two guys having a conversation, but I really enjoyed it.
I just watched it. It's almost like a really good podcast.
I couldn't really connect with anything they had to say in the movie. But for some reason, i just couldn't stop watching it. It's a weird movie.
I had seen "My Dinner With Andre" and knew that abed was doing a reference. It's fun to see what my reaction might have been if I hadn't seen that film. They look confused by Abed's behavior.
This is one of Community's best imo. The scenes with Abed and Jeff are an example of great acting and I absolutely adore it
Not one of them has watched My Dinner With Andre huh? Well if any of you do watch it (I hope) do it alone, each of you. It's that kind of movie.
Season 4 is ok. It's good in sections as well, I don't recall if it's great in any places (which is a strong indicator it isn't), but when we're talking about Community even "just good" is still better than most series.
Dr. Cimmerian I still love Season 5 Episode 4
Season 4 is the weakest season. It's basically Community fan fiction.
Garrick Groover Still enjoyable in many aspects
Thats how i feel about korra. As much stuff there is to pick apart in that series, its still avatar and is still one of the better shows that came out during that time.
Dr. Cimmerian - thank you. I came here to say the same thing. There's a few duds in there for sure (finale, convention, Marine biology) but there's also a few hidden gems IMO herstory of dance, intro to knots, felt surrogacy).

The piece at the end is Gymnopedie no. 1 by Erik Satie.
Maurice Ravel uncultured swine.
Was it in Dinner with Andre?
Isaac Mercado Yes. It plays at the end of the movie under some voiceover by Wallace Shawn (which is recreated by Jeff in this episode).
Yes eg i found the track by googling my dinner with andre soundtrack
Frank Roberts it is Satie, swine...
I really hate how you guys reacted to Jeff being honest and laying it all out there.
I loved this episode so much because it did a double homage to two of my favorite movies. I would recommend watching My Dinner with Andre, but it really isnt for everyone. Community did a great job of parodying it though.

- This is the first episode to take place entirely off campus. It's also the first episode not to feature a scene in the study room.
The music at the end was in My Dinner with Andre, the narration is an homage to it as well.
This is probably my favorite of the more serious episodes
This episode aired on March 24th 2011 and on March 25th 2011 Danny Pudi appeared on Cougar Town in an uncredited role. Meta indeed.
I was surprised nobody picked up on the Dinner With Andre reference earlier. I guess it is not that well known.

Cinematically, this might be one of the best written episodes.
I might be in the minority here, but I honestly love Seasons 5 and 6 just as much as if not more than the first 3. My favourite episode of the entire show is in Season 6. She is very judgemental but I find it has a deeper meaning for her
Been catching up on these reactions for a little bit and I gotta say, I’m f*****g sick of the way they react to this show. The judgmental attitude has really irked me.
The whole cast has great chemistry together, but I also love Jeff and Abed together. Every episode centering on the two of them is brilliant.
My Dinner With Andre is a great movie. I like seasons 3 4 5 and 6 of Community, especially season 5 episode 4, no spoiler. Also a great line from season 6. I think you all know it #JesusWept!!!!
I went through the comments to find a reference to Wallace Shawn's most famous role and I didn't see it.
INCONTHIEVABLE!!!!
This word, I do not think it means what you think it means
Watching this show for the first time and when it hits you they are doing My Dinner With Andre of all shows was mindblowing
It doesn't get bad at season 4, it just gets a lil less good.
Tenzin Tsega No, it's bad
It's pretty bad
@@HectorTWE it's not bad all
Half of it was bad, half was average. Im just glad season five and six were great.
That's gotta be a reference to the voting episode. 🤣
Also, Season 4 is honestly fine. I have no idea what people are talking about. I love it just as much as the previous 3 seasons
It's not horrible but it clearly has problems and doesn't handle the characters very well at some points.
Season 4 is terrible. Only two of the episodes are really worth watching.
Garrick Groover Season 4 is fine
Community without Dan Harmon isn't Community.
Garrick Groover It's still fine. There's no season of Community I don't enjoy
Wallace Shawn was also in The Princess Bride, the greatest film of all time.
The song is Gymnopedie no. 1 and it was in My Dinner with Andre 😊
I love the homage to My Dinner with Andre
Pierce as the gimp is PERFECT!!
Season 3 is imo the best season ever in commedy.
LitoSi Can't wait till they get to the musical special
Take out Remedial Chaos Theory and I think season 3 is actually much worse than the first two seasons. It's closer to season 4 than 2 in quality.
Yes, save for a few episodes it's worse than 1 and 2. I actually think one is the best, just because I like the down to earth comedy
I fucked up with the episodes in my mind. I actually think 2 > 3 > the rest
You don't watch enough shows then
The music at the end is Erik Satie - Gymnopédies, 3. Lent et grave... I think I first heard it in Mr. Nobody...
It’s kinda funny how endearing you guys find Abed in this episode. I found him incredibly annoying in this one
Tho watching him slowly getting unnerved by Jeff’s honesty was hilarious
Because the whole conversation is a reference to My Dinner with Andre. He even wears the same sweater.
You leave. It's his opinion.
pulkmees i still found it obnoxious the first time even tho my sis told me about the reference, esp since he intentionally did it without regard to Jeff and his friends. I guess that’s the schtick/w/ his autism. I also don’t think the Normies even caught the reference and just thought he was being cute lol
Also wtf happened to this thread lol can of crazy opened up in the replies
This is a top 5 episode in community for me . Easily top 5.
One of my favorite episodes. I love when Community gets serious
6:36 "Everyone hates Britta"
Ahh, and now, the Britta hate officially starts.
Season 4 is honestly fine
Season 4 is not the best when it's compared to other seasons of community, But on a normal scale of sitcom and comedies it's very good and you can't skip it.
Season 5 and 6 of Community have some of the greatest episodes. Keep watching until the end, please!
Also, start reacting to The Good Place.
Season four isn't as bad as its made out to be, but in universe it does become known as the "gas leak year". Season five and six are both pretty good all things considered. But seasons two and three are definitely the best.
Where is the other guy(Pat)? I loved his reactions
He... barely reacted.
julioagua which is honestly way better than that girl’s obnoxious laugh..
White Pat never laughs. He just very flatly says "that's hilarious" once every couple episodes.
Yeah I liked him a lot as well
I remember watching 'My Dinner with Andre' when I was a kid. I remember almost nothing about it.
So is no one gonna talk about Surjai spitting on himself at 12:02 😂😂😂
The end credit scene is one of my favourites.
One of my favourite episodes this is brill
The ending song is from My Dinner with Andre
I know I'm late, but the music at 14:05 is Gymnopedie no. 1, by Satie.
By the way, the main reference Abed is making in this episode - My Dinner with Andre - is a spectacular movie. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in watching it.
I don't find Abed annoying here, it's more of... he makes me angry. but i still love Abed in the later episodes.
Whenever I watch season 4 I can definitely tell theres some magic gone from the show. Season 5 and 6 however have plenty of hilarious moments.
You can watch "My Dinner with Andre" on youtube for free.
That was one of the saddest episode of Community
I always forget how obscure of a movie My Dinner with Andre is since it's been one of my favourites long before I even saw this episode. Whenever this episode of Community comes on and I'm with a group of people I always find myself as the only person who gets the references to the movie.
Busy Philipps and Dan Byrd of Cougar Town make a cameo in Community Season 2 Finale.
The thing is, even though season 4 is a drop in quality and the quality may not ever again reach the heights of seasons 2-3; it's STILL a much better show than most others.
Nice reaction, although a bit chatty. The next three weeks won't be very compelling. Nothing bad, but nothing unforgettable either.
PS : The Normies interested in watching a Louis Malle movie ? How unusual :D
PS 2 : "Is that from the movie ? Pulp Fiction ?" Double-facepalm. Because Pulp Fiction (right XD), and because no, sister, not PF, My Dinner with Andre !
My favorite episode in the entire show!!!
Pop POP!
I didn't think anyone else knew the show CougarTown lol. I loved that show :)
Shame Pat isn't in this one. I've only seen him in the Community episodes.
So close to my favorite episode, just a few episodes more
IMO season 4 is weaker than the previous 3, but still pretty good. Even though Harmon was back, 5 and 6 just did not have the magic.
Season 5 is miles ahead of season 4.
Where White Pat at tho?
My Dinner with Andre is awesome. You have to pay attention though cause it’s a talkie.
Marketa and Rana!!😍😍😍😍😍😍
Is the very end were they are all talking around a table from my dinner with andera or is it meant to reference sleepers cause that's what it reminded me of
I wish no one told you that they think season 4 was bad. I know it's not nearly as good as the first three seasons but it isn't horrible. I think we all got caught up in the drama of what happened with Harmon and many super fans went into jaded. That's not to say it isn't lesser quality but I think if no one told you then you may not have really noticed a drop.
12:08 five "cools" just as predicted.
All fire signs getting together, what a chemistry!
season 4 actually it's not 'bad' it's just not as good as the first 3 seasons. most people hate it bc dan harmon was fired. yeah without him it is definitely different but compared to other tv shows it's still hilarious and more creative. for me season 5 is the worst one cuz donald glover left..
Later on in the show, during one of the best episodes, the blonde and the young guy from Cougar town make a blink and you miss it cameo.
This episode made me watch Cougar Town.
Abed's (Danny Pudi) cougar town cameo: ruclips.net/video/cWfJYJMrYa0/видео.html
Where White Pat be at?
but wait...., Scrubs and CougarTown are in the same universe...?
Never seen Scrubs...REACT TO IT.
Scrubs is an old show. They've probably seen it already.
Watch the entire thing on your own time. Why would you watch a heavily edited version of a show you've never seen before.
What a great episode and so many unexpected moments
Can't wait for the last 4 episodes of season 2!
I miss pat :(
I love Shirley as Vincent.
Abed cameo ' s are on youtube.
What's the instrumental song they used at the end of the episode? :(
Anyone have the name of the piece of music on the end of the community episode?
I really enjoyed this one
I like season 4.
Four more episodes till the return of paintball!
dude, delete this spoiler.
Shhhhhhh
+kcha not really a spoiler since at this point, the Normies have already reacted to it. The episode's available on RUclips for Patreon premium patrons; public access is in four weeks.
They've already seen the episode. These videos are recorded weeks in advance.
Garrick Groover plus if i remember correctly, it's in the name of the episodes.
Season 4 is still enjoyable but is a real low-point for the show but at least Dan Harmon was able to make Rick and Morty during his absence that year
Season 4 isn't that bad really as long as you can get over how the creator's didn't actually know who Britta and Troy are xx
If you watch My Dinner, I'll be here for it
Micky...seen My Dinner with Andre yet?
My Dinner with Abed?
Also, its the season they assassinated most of the characters.
Jeff is the only adult in the group.
The Normies, while maybe not as good as the 1st 3 seasons, season four is still really good. It's the season when Pierce (Chevy Chase) left the show that I thought Community went down hill.
I know we say this every time she's on screen but "Damn, Marketa thick af."
You guys should react to Cougar Town
where is the ginger
