My GM Sierra was a nightmare and I will NEVER buy another GM vehicle. I detailed all of its issues to the buyer and sold the truck for $800 and felt bad for the new owner at145,00 miles. Trash.. What garbage they are making these days. I changed the oil religiously with Synthetic and did the maintenance but it was a poorly engineered vehicle with electrical problems, a rear end that Quit beginning at 40k miles and failing corroded brake lines (and other issues that GM knows about) that never saw a day of salted roads. POS. Stay away or you will regret it.

    as a plow operator specializing in urban/suburban snow removal, I think being able to lock the front diff independently of rear would be a great asset. plowing downhill into driveway, all weight & plow on front axle and needing to back out in slippery snow without sliding to a side. lock front with all weight/traction pushing & rear allowed to track independently without need to drag front out which often causes rear end to slide out to the side. not sure Bronco is good for plowing only saying like the idea of locking the front independent of anything else.

    I have been a keep fan forever! But I must say that The Ford bronco have brought their A Game and all I have to say is that Jeep has their work cut out for them. I’m not convinced you really need lockers for every situation. I’ve done plenty of rough trails without them. I think Bronco locks everything up to hide the fact these things will be seesawing all over the trail.

    • @jerroldshelton9367
      @jerroldshelton9367 3 года назад +3

      @@johnwilliams615 I've had some kind of high-clearance, low-range vehicle or other since buying a new Samurai back in 1987.
      The first time I went on the Rubicon Trail, I was a six year old kid riding on the passenger seat of my uncle's Willys MB, which all stock down to 6.0 x 16 NDT tires on combat rims, with the exception of aftermarket recovery hooks and a roll-over protection bar. No lift. No lockers. No problem.
      But that's a testament to an 80" wheelbase, 49" track width, and sub-2,500 pound curb weight. The more compact a vehicle is, the more options for placing it on the trail one has, so the more options for lines through challenges one can have available to them. When you can keep relatively even ground pressure on all four tires, open differentials drive all four wheels.
      When you can't make that happen in a flat-fender Jeep, but can use the brake and accelerator pedal at the same time, you don't need as much tractive force to keep a 2,460 pound vehicle moving as you do to keep a 4,000+ pound vehicle moving.
      I had a '73 Bronco on stock suspension with factory front and rear LSD that I never ran a tire taller than 32" on. I had that over the Rubicon and on the nearby Dusy-Ershim Trail many times. It was bigger than a flat-fender Jeep, having a longer 92" wheelbase and weighing right at 3,500 pounds. With bigger tires and traction-aiding differentials, it really wouldn't go anywhere a bone stock flat-fender couldn't.
      The last time I did the Rubicon, I did it in a four-banger ragtop TJ weighing 3,250 pounds. I had rear LSD and ran 31" tires on it. No aftermarket lift. No lockers. No massive rubber. No problem.
      I think one of the reasons why youngsters today think you have to have selectable lockers front and rear and 35" or larger tires in order to negotiate anything tougher than a graded dirt fire road is because of the size and weight of the newer vehicles they run, coupled with a lack of first-hand experience regarding what a bone-stock flat-fender Jeep is really capable of doing as a byproduct of its compact size and light weight.
      In sum, the bigger a vehicle is, the less options one has for placement on the trail in relation to the obstacles presented and the heavier it is, the more tractive force it takes to keep it moving. So, the bigger and heavier a vehicle is, the more "necessary" lockers and massive rubber become.
      One thing the JL Wrangler convinced me of is that I don't want or need something that big and heavy to run trails with and the New Bronco is even bigger and heavier than that.

    • @jerroldshelton9367
      @jerroldshelton9367 3 года назад +1

      @@cherch I think your assessment of the Bronco Sport as being direct competition for the current Cherokee is spot on.
      I know people who have bought them and as a result, I have had the chance to drive them on the street and in the dirt.
      My general impression is it's better off-pavement than it has any apparent right to be.
      One of the people I know who bought one is a quail hunting buddy of mine out in California and he reports that he's been out to our quail hunting spots in the BLM Jawbone Canyon area, at Opal Mountain, and on the desert slope of the San Bernardino Range. Mostly, he's been favorably impressed with how well it works in the dirt.
      He's had his Bronco Sport on more "rugged" terrain than my friends in my home state have.
      He reports that he thinks he found the limit of Bronco Sport capability in the form of designated route 3N17 in Southern California's San Bernardino National Forest. He still made it to our chukar spot on White Mountain, though. He said it just wasn't too happy about getting him there, as the steep, rocky climb exposes the handicap of the 20:1 crawl ratio.
      I mention that particular route because it's a little more technical than I'd want to do in a Bronco Sport after driving one myself in the dirt and because there's RUclips video out there of this trail and what it's like, if you're interested in seeing what the limit of Bronco Sport capability might be.
      There's a whole lot of off-pavement driving that an off-road trim Bronco Sport could not just handle, but handle pretty well. I'm thinking here of faster, relatively flat high-desert type terrain where the suspension setup and relatively high crawl ratio aren't a huge handicap.
      For people like my California quail hunting buddy, trading off rock-crawling capability the Bronco Sport doesn't have for the civilized ride on the kind of desert terrain it appears to handle well is a worthwhile trade.
      For what it is, I think it's one of the better vehicles of its type out there.

    Enjoyable review. I live in Los Angles, CA. Traffic and highways are my life. Off-Road is my joy. I ride motorcycles and the "getting there" vs. "once you are there" debate has been THE issue in the "Adventure Bike" segment for years. I have a 2015 Jeep Rubicon and 2012 Ford Raptor. I have a Badlands / Sasquatch 2 door on order. It can't come soon enough. I have pumped thousands into the Jeep simply to drive it. I have paid for an alignment or 2 on the Raptor. Truth be known, I don't know how the Wrangler would perform "off road" because with the death wobble I endure (and have endured in 3 consecutive Jeeps) I would never take it to off-road sites because you need to get there to find out.
    My 17 year old son howled with delight last weekend hitting 110 mph off-road in after driving up a 45% + degree hill in the 2012 150,000 Mile Plus Raptor. The 2015 Rubicon with 40K mile was at home. He hates driving that POS down the street.
    MEN. Hear my words. When I go to 4 wheels I drive my 2012 Raptor. The 2015 "Rubicon" is my wife's car. Her 2015 low-mileage Rubicon is of little value. My 2012 Raptor is still worth good money. BUT I am replacing HER car because "her" Jeep is a POS my wife and I both know to be inferior to the older Raptor I drive.
    If you don't understand that a WIDE BODIED truck like a Raptor should NEVER compete in all-purpose off-road situations with a dedicated off-road vehicle I got nothin' for you.
    The Jeep has been dead for years. My Raptor says "trust Ford." I did.

It's been daily driven and thrashed on autocross courses and club track days from new and at 107,000 miles, and getting on 20 years old, I haven't come close to wearing the new off it yet. It has been exceptionally reliable, needing only replacement of wear items like tires, brake pads and windshield wipes along with oil and filter changes.

      @John Doyle: I've got a list of things I don't like about this New Bronco, starting with its size and weight, and moving down to things like an electronically-shifted transfer case in lieu of a mechanical shifter, and a bunch of other things new vehicles have that I'm not a fan of, like drive-by-wire throttle control, electric power steering, electric e-brake, and TIPM-type chassis electrical architecture, along with LCD "gauges" instead of analog type, and touch-screen "infotainment."
      I could overlook some of my gripes if I liked the way it looked, but it looks too much like a cartoon version of Scout 80 to me to get seriously enthused about the styling.
      I'm leaning toward buying one, but for my automatic-transmission hating wife to drive to work in. So if we do get one, it'll be a base model with a manual transmission. It should have enough four-wheel drive capability to handle snow days and that's all my wife needs it to do.
      I'm not under some illusion that any version of this New Bronco would do something on the trail that I couldn't get done by building a CJ-2A in a ground-up resto-mod, or some other piece of old iron, for that matter.

    According to 4wheeler magizine the JLUR scored a 693 with sway bar disengaged on a 20 degree ramp. And the bronco 4 door scores a 700, which we don’t know what degree. But the biggest thing that helps the wrangler is the easability to maximize that number with mods. Take MC lifts, with their game changer 3.5” lift and running OME shocks they report a 982 on a 20 degree ramp and that lift requires no control arm relocation. Straight bolt in application. Obviously alittle pricy, but with an IFS it’s had to gain that travel without widening the front. Obviously a small lift can go one, but now we have to worry about the cv angles and what limits they have. I’m really curious how the aftermarket community is going to mod out the bronco to really make it competitive against the wrangler where it counts. But no doubt the bronco will kick ass in the speed and desert setting. Can’t wait for these to come out and get that bug year pass so I can make my decision to get this or just another wrangler.
