I think Rachelle actually performed better in this particular performance. I saw her in Miss Saigon in October and she was incredible. The emotion in her voice just blew me away. Honestly the entire show blew me away

Rachelle owned Gigi's Character, she's is now my forever favorite Gigi. And Lea Salonga is just irreplaceable as Kim. Lea's accent here though, she can go sound American, British and Filipino, how great is that?
Difference between these two: Ms. Lea started Saigon way way way back. Even tho she started long time ago, her voice in the auditions I've watched in RUclips really fits her in the theater industry. Her tone, diction, clearly you will hear the difference between them. While Rachelle, well we know she's one of the Diva/Biritera when she started her career as a singer/performer. It was actually kind of amazing how well she can sing theater-like sound for a Diva herself. And I am so proud of her being in the production of Saigon. For sure, a few more years in the theater, she'll be much much better. And their performance here is really good. I mean yeah. I like them both 😊

When she started singing, you were transported back in time to when she was the Kim in Miss Saigon. Her shoes are still to be filled. She set the bar so high in the 1989 - in the Original Shows not only with her innocence(18) but her raw singing and acting talent, at the time, that only an extraordinary singer can come close. Rachel's voice was rich but still has not got that mellowed tone, control and edge to it. The trouble with many of these up and coming singers, they try too hard to imitate Lea's voice instead of singing the song their way. Lea is and always be THE VOICE of Kim in Miss Saigon, no matter how many actresses play the part, she is the VOICE of the Philippines. A beautiful, humble, classy, highly intelligent and a well acclaimed Actress and Singer the World has seen and had the pleasure to have experienced her talents. God Bless this WOMAN.

I love Lea. One of the first musical theater voices I fell in love with, but if you think her voice sounds better than Rachelle's in this video, you are in denial.
There's no denial here, it's all a matter of opinion and tastes. Even though Rachelle is a goddamn amazing singer, I still think Lea effortlessly outstages her by the sheer richness of her voice tone alone. Rachelle sounds very emotive but her tone is rather shallow, it gives out a more piercing edge to her voice, while Lea's voice even at this age is creamy, full and well-rounded. Lea doesn't even have to try to make riffs or attempt any ad libs, she just opens her mouth and the sound that comes off of her is among the most heavenly sounds I've heard. Rachelle tries hard and succeeds, I'll give her that - Lea succeeds without even trying, she did so back when she was 18/19 and played Kim at Broadway, and she does in present date. But i respect Rachelle's talent a lot! I wish her the best.

Lea may be the original Kim, the Greatest to ever play the role and never will there be ever going to be perfect as her for the role because LEA SALONGA is the only KIM. but.. Don't compare rachel to her, shes not kim, she is GIGI. She may not be as "Great" as Lea, I mean who is?? Not even the new Kim (Ava) is but rachel is fit for her role. Shes brilliant and for Ava, I know shes will always be compared to Lea but always think that you are blessed to have been chosen for the role of Kim and thats something that a lot of girls can only dream for. Of course Lea and Rachelle are wonderful performers. It seems that this is the first time they are singing this duet together, right? So interesting to compare this and about 9 months later when they sang together for the MISS SAIGON 25th Anniversary. Please note: this version is in a key a half step lower than the one they sang in at the anniversary show. I think that's why I find the anniversary performance more exciting - the notes they are hitting just sound more satisfying in both their voices. That's just my two cents.
Heard that rachelle is doing well at the west end. Reviews and tweets are saying good things about her performance...and the crowd want to see more of gigi. Too bad its just a bit role..( but very memorable)

Lea Salonga a young, innocent but very talented 18 year old, set the bar so high as Kim in the original Miss Saigon with her voice and acting, together with Simon Bowman and Will Chase as Chris, that all those taking on those same roles in the updated Reproductions, are finding it very hard to fill those shoes. The two leading male Actors, Simon Bowman and Will Chase in those original productions, playing the role of the American GI Chris, took their roles to a whole unreachable level with both their singing and acting abilities, that all others wishing to fill their shoes, dont come close. The Actors in the Reproduction roles of Kim and Chris, don't come close, they just don't have that talent or acting ability, nor that softness and innocence plus the voices to match, that the original cast had. That Original Production was the age of innocence, and it's really hard for anyone to try and live up to the parts those Actors/Singers played. When you watched the Original Production, you were transported right into Vietnam, you felt every emotion with the Music, the Backdrops, the huge cast, the superb acting and fantastic singing. It was all original. Everything now is too overly done, over dramatic over stated and copycat. Sorry, it's just how I feel. The Original Miss Saigon, was and always will be the "THE WHOLE PACKAGE.
Will Chase wasn't the original Chris on Broadway. That was Willy Falk. Will Chase was a replacement on Broadway and also did it in Manila with Lea (there are lots of clips of them on RUclips).
