Here's my $0.02. I saw Eva last week, and also saw Lea on Broadway. BOTH are exceptional artists. They each contribute a different flare to Kim. I think that the revival is an excellent production - the revamping of staging and sets add to the story. Lastly, concerts like these don't do justice to the production - yes, it gives you a glimpse to the show - but doesn't really give you the emotional electricity.
I hate seeing all these negative comments about Eva. 4 years later and everyone’s raving about her. Just shows how staring in a best musical tony winning musical can do
God I adore Eva... She was phenomenal when I saw her as Kim (both times) and she just keeps getting better! I had the pleasure of meeting her and can confirm she is beautiful inside and out xxx
Chris is also very good, as is Kim. I don't think its fair to hold every Kim up to the performance of Lea Salonga. Lea originated the role, she gave it much of what it is... this girl is talented and has great potential, her performance should be enjoyed rather than compared.
I saw Miss Saigon now for the 4th time with Eva and she is simply superb! Please be aware that the acoustic at trafalgar square is a nightmare and that it was the first time for her to perfrom in front of over 10k people
It's such a pity when 5-6 years ago everyone who DIDN'T WATCH THE REVIVAL PERFORMANCE YET saying bad things about this version. Of course you can't compare this one with the original one. But I can say that the west end revival version have THE BEST Thuy(Kwang Ho) and Engineer(Jon Jon) ever.
The comments are full of comparison. But can we all just be happy because another Filipino get the lead role Kim? I haven't watched Eva sing live but watching her online clearly telling us she's worth it. She maybe not like Lea and I think I like it that way because she was not copying Lea, she's giving us another flavor of this show. Lea is a legend and I think it's unfair that we are comparing her to her given that Eva has no experience at all except when she was in high school. This is a new generation and I think Eva did a great job to her role as Kim, everyone in the new cast, they did a great job 💕❤😍
Can't wait for the film!!! Love this cast so much! Hugh such a talented man, so kind and friendly and lovely to work along side. Alistair so genuine and lovely to be along side. Also so talented. And finally Eva is just wow! She is such an amazing performer and so lovely and caring xx
now seeing another girl performs Kim, i came to realized that Lea indeed deserved the tony awards etc.... her emotions and facial expressions whilst singing and acting was indeed superb for a 17 year old newbie.... i miss her... not to mention the angelic voice of hers...a rare find...
True! She is indeed a rare find, And even she didn't become a cast she still has a Good future infront of her, she was Studying Medical when she auditioned Miss Saigon, but because she was picked she needed to stop her study and perform her role as kim, and indeed the original version has more emotion in it, and she played it in a decade for thouasand of times yet her voices is still crystal clear than ever
We saw the musical at the Prince Edward theater last week with Eva as Kim. She was absolutely brilliant --- her voice, her acting, her presence --- all stellar. Thanks for posting this video, but this is not even a fraction of how the actual staging really is. This shows their raw talent, but not the entire package. Lea Salonga was and is also brilliant, but there is no reason to compare the two performers. One thing is for sure, the current West End version is spectacular. Two thumbs up!!!
there's reason to compare Lea with Eva because Lea is the original Kim and in this clip alone will show that nothing can duplicate to Lea Salonga's mastery of craft. Eva's talent is good. But in no way comparable to Lea. This is the End of Miss Saigon.
ed10908 yup, a pretty dumb statement. this was a concert held at trafalgar square! eva was absolutely brilliant in the show. you don't know what you're saying.
Last Night of the World {Miss Saigon ~ Manila, 2000} - Lea Salonga & Will Chase here is a clip of Lea performing. I think Lea edges her in terms of acting. Lea's eyes, movements, stance... they are just stunning. I happened to watch Lea on her 2nd week of performance and she was up there like a pro! Be reminded that Lea is also an accomplished actress, not just a splendid singer. Eva on the other hand is new, but with that voice and more exposure, I am sure her true sparkles will shine. Lea is Lea and forever the best Kim, but it is time for other stars to shine too, so here comes Eva. Eva is sooooo much better than many other Kims that played the role. I can tell because I have seen this show over 10 times.
Eva's so lucky to be performing with Alistair -,- But she's a good Kim!! One of the best I've ever seen since Lea Salonga. Alistair is also brilliant and I couldn't compare him with Simon Bowman.
Saw this when I was 12... Didn't know why mom was crying. I'm 37 now and I'm OBSESSED. The music is just beautiful and the orchestration is just magic. I think they don't get as much attention as they deserve. I mean...the morning of the dragon!? COME ON! I just wish they performed sun n moon Beautiful! Xoxo
I too have seen the revival in London and Eva is absolutely stunning as Kim! I will say don't judge someone on a video, go see the live performance! you will be pleased....trust me
I haven't seen the show in London just this clip and the original Broadway production, but I think this actor makes an amazing John. So much passion in his performance.
Read all the negative comments about Eva. I will admit I was hesitant about her playing the role of Kim and to be compared to Lea is unavoidable. Not as powerful as Lea's voice but bearing in mind that she is an amateur with no prior role or experience in any musical play, she was a revelation when I went to watch Miss Saigon.
Funny how people are so quick to give their opinion on a talent, like Eva, when in fact she was chosen not just of 1 casting agent, but every person who made and run the show Miss Saigon. I mean she could have won a Tony and a Olivier and many of us will cheer for her because she truly deserves it.
Lea Salonga held the banch mark extremely high for all these girls to meet. Somehow Lea has a very natural acting chemistry with whoever played Chris role then whether it was Simon Bowman, Chris Chase or David Campbell. It does not matter whoever her partner was then she nailed it each time, Those eye to eye contacts, the kissing and making out scene those movements seem to be so natural.
can we all remember that eva is only 18 and started when she was 17 and was hand picked for the role without loads of training or coaching throughout her life. I saw her last week and she was amazing.
Cris is very intense., Eva is a new comer in the theater in a large scale , she might need to step up a bit more but all in all i am so excited for the production i cant wait for them to come to america
We should not compare the new cast to the original one. The original is the original. Nothing will beat that. However, these artists were given their roles because the creators saw in them the characters they portray. This new West End Miss Saigon company has their unique kick. We have to acknowledge and respect their brilliance in their craft.
I cant find the video that was uploaded here on you tube featuring the old and new cast of muss saigon.. There is a scene when lea and simon, eva and alistair sang "last night of the world" then they switch partners..haha lea ended up kissing alistair.. Im hoping its still here on you tube and wasnt deleted :(
I would also like to point out that this was taken a couple weeks after the show opened and Eva is still playing Kim to this day! Since then, she has gotten to evolve with the character and really make it her own!! I think she sounds great in the revival soundtrack!
i actually feel like this video doesn’t do justice to these actors’ true performances. watch a bootleg of this cast of miss saigon, i guarantee that those of you who think negatively of this production will change your mind. watching it onstage for real there is such a beautiful spark and oh my god eva and alistair have amazing chemistry and i get butterflies. and they have such beautiful voices and it’s just so so powerful i can’t describe it in words but if you see their performances in a bootleg you will see that they are so so so beautiful and incredible-much more than they’re getting credit for
Alistair brammer and Eva's chemistry's as a coupe on stage's electric!!! You just feel the strength, passion and love between them, very romantic, as one of the audience I feel it. Alaister's presence and charisma is strong.
Having seen the original cast on Broadway - including Jonathan Pryce, I have to say that I think Lea is better (though sound can affect things a lot, and Eva was obviously nervous (you would be too). Also, the Chris on the original BWay soundtrack is better, though this one is very good. But I MUST say that this John is WONDERFUL. I know he played this role before, and was quite young, but he's certainly grown into it. The John from Bway was also good, but this guy - WOW. HE'S the reason I would see this show if I could get to London again.
I think they're both great. You can't really compare any revival version with the original one. Hmmm... maybe just a bit more spark is missing? I mean there is a kissing scene and all but the spark... is what I can't really sense.
Lea salonga's voice is more passionate. You can really feel the words when she sings that's why she was chosen to be part of walt disney as well. Eva needs a little improvement on how she express herself.. she needs to feel the song more. If she'll improve and be more passionate on how she delivers the song then she'll be as good as lea. You can do it Eva. I know you can
I think it is just fair to compare Eva to Lea. Yes Lea is a legend in broadway and Eva have just began her journey but dont do the comparisson to the Lea that we know now, lets not forget that Lea was the same age as her when she started and when she turned 20 she won a TONY.
is it just me or eva doesn't look and act sweet at all like their description with kim? It's like she is angry. ahaha.. i don't know.. just saying.. by the way this is not a nasty comment just my observation though.
Consider that at that point Thuy had just made an unwelcome appearance at her wedding (and pulled a gun on her husband of all of five minutes, at that!). She doesn't hold that expression throughout, in any case
Alistair Brammers voice is very nasily and not suitablee for this role, he was the same when he was Joseph in Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat. the best person to have played Chris was Andrew Kennedy in the UK London show.
I am disappointed that they tweaked the melodies too much. Loses the poignancy of the story. The uniqueness of this story was the music and the fact that each dialogue was sung. Plus the set sucks, the audience was allowed to shout. I almost miss the old days when there was respect for the theatre and Broadway.
That's because Lea has had years of professional voice experience before she played Kim and even improved upon that afterwards. Miss Saigon is Eva's first ever REAL professional debut. But she does have that something which Lea had and with more experience, she will only get better.
Ona Canilao Wrong. Lea Salonga and Eva Noblezada had comparable performing experience by the time they both opened MISS SAIGON in 1989 and 2014, respectively. Salonga had never done a long open ended run just like Noblezada and Salonga had not studied voice until after she opened SAIGON at Drury Lane. Musicals in Repertory Philippines were shown for short engagements, just a little bit longer than U.S. high school runs. In fact, Salonga lost her voice because of her lack of training and because she was doing 8 shows a week unlike Noblezada who only does 4 performances a week. Salonga had to leave the show for a few weeks to undergo vocal therapy. Salonga then studied daily with Mary Hammond to improve her vocal technique. This is the big reason why Salonga's voice on the OLC recording, which sounds pinched at times, is so different from how she sounded in New York when she premiered the show on Broadway in 1991. In New York, Salonga's voice opened up, had more depth, resonance and range that you cannot hear in the OLC recording. I believe Noblezada has had more extensive vocal training than Salonga via private voice lessons prior to getting cast in this revival.
While I agree about Lea not having the proper training as well before she started Miss Saigon, the fact is she was a popstar in the Philippines for a number of years. I know because I lived in the Philippines that time and she toured with Menudo as well. She wasn't as popular as the other stars, but she was well known around showbiz as a singer. Also Repertory Philippines may not be like the West End, but getting to be part of it requires good training as well. All Eva had was high school experience, possibly help from her aunt and the training she had from (I'm estimating) November 2013 to May 3, 2014.
I would also like to point out that this was taken a couple weeks after the show opened and Eva is still playing Kim to this day! Since then, she has gotten to evolve with the character and really make it her own!! I think she sounds great in the revival soundtrack!
Can we all just remember that Eva was hand picked, she has natural talent. She hasn't even gone to college/university for training!
Not even a special training other than her highschool. She’s a unicorn!
Here's my $0.02. I saw Eva last week, and also saw Lea on Broadway. BOTH are exceptional artists. They each contribute a different flare to Kim. Seen this 9 years ago in London. The cast are very talented.

Namis ko tuloy ang miss saigon na perform ko na ito nung college ako. Grabe iba ang pakiramdam

Great...bui doi is stuck in my head again....✌️
Ms Saigon is worth seeing even to just hear this song.
To Be in the theatre when they sing this was so good.
great job jiji.....magnificent talent....your the superstar in miss saigon....
Lea Salonga held the banch mark extremely high for all these girls to meet. Hugh Maynard is thunder!
can we all remember that eva is only 18 and started when she was 17 and was hand picked for the role without loads of training or coaching throughout her life. I saw her last week and she was amazing.
I think the riffs in Bui Doi kinda fit, it makes me feel John's determination.
HUGH MAYNARD SLAYED

Eva was amazing as Kim, truely, I cried like a baby watching her performance
Where is Ms. Rachelle Ann Go in that clip ? The heck
ahhh.. okay, is that it? thats her role? Christoph Grimm
I cant find the video that was uploaded here on you tube featuring the old and new cast of muss saigon..

She is shay's cousin who plays emily on pretty little liars. Amazing.
shay is also related to lea, right?
i actually feel like this video doesn’t do justice to these actors’ true performances. watch a bootleg of this cast of miss saigon, i guarantee that those of you who think negatively of this production will change your mind. watching it onstage for real there is such a beautiful spark and oh my god eva and alistair have amazing chemistry and i get butterflies. and they have such beautiful voices and it’s just so so powerful i can’t describe it in words but if you see their performances in a bootleg you will see that they are so so so beautiful and incredible-much more than they’re getting credit for
ruclips.net/video/0FFzIBLtTjY/видео.html here’s a bootleg of act i. watch sun and moon and the last night of the world they are absolutely incredible
Kim and Chris both have a beautiful voice, but Kim seems disconnected. Was she happy, confused or scared?
i like Eva's style, she actually has a good voice quality but i think Chris is outshining her.
I love eva who's almost smiling when the audience would cheer. It's cute
proud rachel ann go
Alistair brammer and Eva's chemistry's as a coupe on stage's electric!!! You just feel the strength, passion and love between them, very romantic, as one of the audience I feel it. Alaister's presence and charisma is strong.
Muy guwapo jiho cris, me gusto, ooohla la la
got to see Miss saigon for the 4th time and finally got to see Eva as kim

The brilliant Eva and Alistair .
Who's this John?
Simon Bowman is the best Chris
i so like the kissing portion!!

むねのおくに~はむしゆたが!ねむっている!ちからつよく!!
eva's voice is nice but we are used to Lea's voice-- sweet, innocent, clear...suma total, lea pa rin
is it just me or eva doesn't look and act sweet at all like their description with kim? It's like she is angry. ahaha.. i don't know.. just saying.. by the way this is not a nasty comment just my observation though.
Eva doesn't look in love. Her eyes seems confused
Consider that at that point Thuy had just made an unwelcome appearance at her wedding (and pulled a gun on her husband of all of five minutes, at that!). She doesn't hold that expression throughout, in any case
Its like there is so many things going in her head >:( she is a little stiff
Not impressed. Very far from the great, original 1989 West send cast.
The leading man oversings. Too much vibratto. It ends up sounding old-fashioned when it has potential to be current.
Alistair Brammers voice is very nasily and not suitablee for this role, he was the same when he was Joseph in Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat. the best person to have played Chris was Andrew Kennedy in the UK London show.
Until today, everyone that came after the original version failed. Just average.

not a powerful voice as lea
I agree

Wrong. Lea Salonga and Eva Noblezada had comparable performing experience by the time they both opened MISS SAIGON in 1989 and 2014, respectively. :( eva's not as good as lea. nothing special abt her performance. so disappointed here.
we can't compare people against others as we are all different...if you're ever in London you should go see her perform live! it's really impressive.
Lea is way better... :)
