Great predictions. Quick and nicely presented! I have a Barbie upset in adapted. I think a lot of voters will vote for American Fiction and Oppenheimer, and there is a slight chance for Barbie. Great Gerwig and Noah Baumbach's name are on the ballots. Maybe it will be the shocking upset? I have the same predictions as you with the exception for VFX (I've got The Creator) and animated (I'm going on a gamble on Boy and the Heron, but NOT confident in it. It's a dumb gamble).

Earlier in the summer, barbenheimer was a phenomenon during the box office, but when it mattered the most during the awards season, Oppenheimer was winning everything. Take a back seat, Barbie, Oppenheimer is in charge of the wheel
Bradley Cooper will be the biggest looser of the night. The portrayal of Bernstein in Maestro is sickeningly false. It's based on Bernstein's children, who have no idea what he was doing to damage classical music. I posted a video on my RUclips channel titled THE BERNSTEIN EFFECT that explains the collateral damage he caused to the arts. I studied with one of his friends, Ivan Davis, who also performed with him. I know other gay friends of his who tell a completely different story than is told in this movie. In both of my videos, I document how he ruined the way symphonies and concertos are performed. His teachings eliminated the development of processing variables in bigger and bigger batches, which destroyed the intellectual development of conductors, pianists and composers. This destroyed classical music as an art form and a business. Most of the classical recordings are now vanity records. Bernstein was a toxic force in the arts. Bad movie = bad night at the Oscars
It's kind of tragic that Godzilla: Minus One is just gonna win Visual Effects purely based on narrative. Because it really isn't nearly as impressive as The Creator. Like it's just simply not even in the same ballpark to be honest. The work on The Creator and the process is revolutionary. But I guess it's as tough for the Academy to make a right VFX decision as it is to nominated an animated film for anything else than animated feature.
I don't think it's purely based on narrative. The vfx are more impressive than some of the newest Marvel pictures, specially considering Godzilla's 15M dollar budget, compared to The Creator's 80M. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy if either of those win, yet both deserve the award to me equally
Godzilla had an eighth of the budget that The Creator did. I would be happy to see either win (and on a solely technical level I think The Creator's VFX are better), but to give credit where credit's due, when you take into account budget, what Godzilla achieved is arguably just as impressive as The Creator.
I deeply pity you and anyone else who looks down on a potential _Gojira Minus One_ Best VFX Oscar win. _The Creator_ was boring AF, and no amount of VFX prowess would make me want to see it win a single Oscar.
@@Wired4Life2 Although I prefer Godzilla (was in my top 5 of the year), I don't think it's fair to say that the quality of the other elements of a film should prevent it from winning a technical category. If a complete trainwreck of a movie has the best score, or makeup, or visual effects, it should win it

Don't get how Lily Gladstone wins if she does honestly. She's just not in large stretches of the film and is just in a bed for the other part of it. She feels like supporting actress once you get past the first hour of the movie.
Yeah, for like the first hour, I was on board her being in lead, and I thought if she carried out this way, and her character progressed naturally, she would get my vote, but the script really did her dirty in my opinion . She was way too passive in the latter half of the film

@@tonyg76 take any film acting class and you'll be told the opposite lol. big acting is great for a stage when it's hard to make out an actor's face, but subtle acting is considered more technically advanced and moving on screen

I would be happy to see either win (and on a solely technical level I think The Creator's VFX are better), but to give credit where credit's due, when you take into account budget, what Godzilla achieved is arguably just as impressive as The Creator.

@@Wired4Life2 Although I prefer Godzilla (was in my top 5 of the year), I don't think it's fair to say that the quality of the other elements of a film should prevent it from winning a technical category. If a complete trainwreck of a movie has the best score, or makeup, or visual effects, it should win it
Lily Gladstone is incredible.
She reminds me of a young Olivia de Haviland, who lived to be 104.
It'll be a close call between Gladstone, and Stone.

Don't get how Lily Gladstone wins if she does honestly. She's just not in large stretches of the film and is just in a bed for the other part of it. She feels like supporting actress once you get past the first hour of the movie.
Yeah, for like the first hour, I was on board her being in lead, and I thought if she carried out this way, and her character progressed naturally, she would get my vote, but the script really did her dirty in my opinion . She was way too passive in the latter half of the film

Way to go out of the limb lol 🤣. I am 100% team Emma because personally she is by far the best in the category. I do not see the Lily hype at all for her performance or her movie. Other than that, definitely hoping Poor Things wins something and so do Anatomy of a Fall and The Holdovers. On to 2024 movies!
I think Emma's performance (though very good) is very 'MORE' acting. A win for Lily is a win for the subtle performance which is MUCH needed.

@@tonyg76 take any film acting class and you'll be told the opposite lol. big acting is great for a stage when it's hard to make out an actor's face, but subtle acting is considered more technically advanced and moving on screen
