- As the final session of the Church’s 188th annual general conference came to a close, Russell M. Nelson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, announced plans to build seven new temples. These temples will be in the following locations: Salta, Argentina; Bengaluru, India; Managua Nicaragua; Cagayan de Oro, Philippines; Layton, Utah; Richmond, Virginia; and a major city yet to be determined in Russia.
“We want to bring temples closer to the expanding membership of the Church,” President Nelson said. “My dear brothers and sisters, construction of these temples may not change your life, but your time in the temple surely will. In that spirit, I bless you to identify those things you can set aside so you can spend more time in the temple. I bless you with greater harmony and love in your homes and a deeper desire to care for your eternal family relationships. I bless you with increased faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and a greater ability to follow Him as His true disciples.”
These seven announced temples bring the total number of operating temples (159) and temples announced or under construction (30) to 189 worldwide. There are two temples scheduled for dedication this year, including the Concepción Chile Temple (October 28) and the Barranquilla Colombia Temple (December 9). The Jordan River Utah Temple will be rededicated May 20, and the Houston Texas Temple, which needed interior repairs due to flooding last year, will be rededicated April 22. Nine temples are being renovated, including the Asunción Paraguay Temple, Baton Rouge Louisiana Temple, Frankfurt Germany Temple, Memphis Tennessee Temple, Oakland California Temple, Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple, Raleigh North Carolina Temple, Tokyo Japan Temple and the Washington D.C. Temple. The Mesa Arizona and Hamilton New Zealand Temples are scheduled for closure this year for renovation. Temples under renovation are considered operating temples.
I watched when he announced it live and now on video. It took my breath away both times. Being an inactive member, I will be making the long journey back to the church. God bless Pres. Nelson and all the leaders of this wondrous church.
I was in the Conference Center when President Nelson made this address. The enthusiasm and Spirit in that room is an experience I’ll never forget.
Pres. Nelson with the mic drop at the end.

A Temple in Salta, Argentina!!!! Wooou,. So many things passed through my mind when President Nelson said Salta Argentina. Years of sacrifice and faithful works, traveling hours to get to the closest temple available. Now we will have the blessing to have the House of the Lord in our own land. "Construction of these temples may not change your life, but your time in the temple surely will". Let us all press on, dear people from Salta. I love you President Nelson. Thank you for being an example for us in all aspects of life.

You can tell he loves to laugh... just like Presidents Hinckley and Monson did.

The last temple ??????
Amazing
No matter the present circumstances in Russia, I hope everyone realizes what this means. The LDS church always works with governments and goes into a country through the front door. At some point there will be a change in Russia to the point that the church will be able to peacefully build a temple with the permission of a benevolent government. Why? Because the Lord God has spoken it. The current regime’s days are marked.
Russia?! FINALLY!!!
Exciting
Why no mention of new membership?
because they do that in the statistical report to list the membership
I really hope the church won't face problems in russia. I know that Russians are not so fond of the lds church since they consider it an American religeon.
We have another prophet who likes to laugh... he's going to accomplish many things just as Presidents Hinckley and Monson did... when you're not afraid to laugh, you know how to communicate better than most. Layton has been waiting for a temple since the 1850's and, no, that's NOT a typo. He knew it was a LOOOOONG time in coming and he's doing it.
What was so funny about the Layton announcement?
Nerdalizer They've been waiting for a while... Layton became a LDS settlement in the 1850's and , no, that's not a typo. Laughs and cheers is what you're hearing🙌
Nerdalizer Because that will be 19 temples for Utah
Россия!!!
Russia eh? Just heard Pres. Trump invited Putin to the White House. As if this isn't unbelievable news enough to shock anybody!
The temple in Russia!!! That's a great miracle!!!
New temples 😃😃😃😃😃😃😀😀😃😃😄😄
I'm paying for #cov19 going away for good not coming back from this world agne
