      Yes, most were made on $100,000 mixing consoles to TAPE that costs $400 a reel with no undo button. Talent used to be a thing.

      @@SpectreSoundStudios you dont have to quantize and pitch correct, you can just press record you know… and mix and master…
      I used to record to 8 track tape and mix to 2 track master, my tape machine broke though (problems with these $100,000 consoles and $400 rolls of tape)
      so now I just do the exact same thing i did on tape, but to my virtual tape machine (ableton)
      I’ll never understand the whole “digital bad fix everything” thing; like, maybe dont fix everything then.. treat it like a tape machine
      P.S. the only talent they had back then that we maybe dont have today is the talents of the tape op, having to calibrate and clean the machine every take lmao
      (look at bands like king gizzard, doing infest the rats nest and gila monster, and tell me those musicians doing metal don’t have talent cuz they record to a DAW, when Planet B and Self Immolate are heavier than most songs from the 80’s and 90’s theyre trying to emulate)

      @@bobzmuda3940 Seems you misunderstood. Because it is possible to fix everything, people *will* do it. The tool is there so it will be used. This leads to a horde of musicians that deem practice as "not as important", needing xx tries to get a good enough take, which obviously pisses off the recording engineer.
      Back in the days, most of the successful musicians practiced until they could play the take perfectly at 125% speed. This was a necessity because if they couldn't, the studios would kick them out immediately (or they'd burn a shit ton of money).
      This doesn't mean that there aren't any people of that kind, they are just much rarer than they were in times of tape machines.

      Agreed. However, I would say the top-end can be an indicator of what is to come for the more budget interfaces. Also, I do like hearing the difference between the likes of a Focusrite vs the top-end to see if it's actually worth it. I really like the VU meters, but I also like saving $1600 for my level of recording

    @CantKillACowboyTX Год назад +2

    It's so funny to me that people are up in arms about the price. Is it expensive? Yeah, it's a premium product on the forefront of current tech in our space, so it's gonna cost a pretty penny. The same can be said about a TON of things that we take for granted today - roasted maple necks, stainless steel frets, high quality studio monitors, solid converters and interfaces - all things that were once considered premium, expensive products that are now a dime a dozen today. When a company puts out a product like this, it opens the door for others to innovate and improve upon it's design, and ultimately lowers the price over the next few years with new iterations and manufacturing processes. Leave it to Focusrite or Behringer to make something similar and far more affordable in the near future. Thanks for showing us this awesome piece of kit, Glenn!

    • @Rr0gu3_5uture
      @Rr0gu3_5uture Год назад

      Exactly! I dunno why people complain so much about the price of high end tech these days. I would say we're currently living in a golden age of cheap music technology and we're spoiled for choice. Most of the stuff that's sold today for well under £1000 could've easily cost you five times, or more for a similar, product in the mid to late 90s.

    According to the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem, the conversion of analog to digital should be identical across all properly functioning AD Converters. Claims that some AD Converters are better than others has always bothered me, as the math should be the same. I know "Aliasing" is a type of distortion that takes place when the frequency is higher than the Nyquist rate. I wouldn't be surprised that different units handle aliasing better than others. It would be great to have a blind test of different AD Converters with the same conversion specs to determine if there are any audio differences, as tis could be verified with a Null Test. Thanks

    • @kesamek8537

    That thing seems beast!
    Definitely real competition to UA's Apollo systems! The thing is that the plugins and Proccessing on apollos are next level! and for nearly 2k the apollo x4 is around the same price and it comes with 4 mic pre amps. that being said, the apollo is very limited with the feature set ON the device. where as this has a full touch screen to access everything stand alone, which is really awesome! where as the apollo requires a computer attached. still the power of an apollo is really big. one feature that would be nice to have is a dual track recording built in. you'd have to route it within, but you can still track with fx or only monitor with them. the console software really needs updating to be a bit more easy to use with routing (faster/easier loopback, record with and without fx easily, a proper routing matrix for easy multing, and a few others would be nice), but it is still very awesome.
    What i hope is that other companies start taking note of the power of this neumann. I don't know many other interfaces at this price range that have dante attached/supported. that alone is such a game changer imo! now can they make a 2U rack mounted one with a touch screen and 8 preamps and other fun features with that?
    Also just want to add that with the rise of 32bit float recording (aka never set levels again recording because barely any noise and no chance of clipping) i think some interestingly powerful interfaces are on the horizon if it catches on. along with workflow stuff like audient's evo auto level setting you showed off recently.

  • @agnawkneemoose6373
    @agnawkneemoose6373 Год назад +3

    Connectivity options and clean A/D conversion are great - that's kind of the whole point to an interface, but why would you want all of these extra effects built into the interface as opposed to doing them with a plugin on the computer? Maybe I'm missing something, but it feels like pushing this into the hardware is going backwards.

    My hypothesis as to why they don't do the grab and drag points on the EQ is so the user doesn't inadvertently touch the screen and make drastic EQ changes that they can't undo since I don't believe there's a native ctrl+z function in the unit unless I'm mistaken. Also, you usually need to go down to the control knobs to adjust Q or bandwidth since that usually isn't affected by dragging anyway, so you can adjust gain and frequency there. It's probably also best to tweak an EQ one parameter at a time (especially with this unit given the laggy nature of the beta software), instead of two simultaneously, but I won't know until I can actually test drive one.

    I know its not what the video is about, but I have the Sennheiser 906 and 609 both and I never have to fuss with them much to get a good sound. I'm typically using them in live situations as opposed to studio but a good mic is a good mic. If you want to save a few bucks, I think they're pretty much the same thing except for the low/high pass switch on the 906.

    Touch screens are really great for a lot of things... like opening new menus that would otherwise require a lot of physical buttons. And for this device used for more-or-less static, setup and then operate inputs, I'm sure it's great. But fixed or assignable, physical buttons or other controls have a tactile, operate-by-feel capability that touchscreens just can't match. Blindly reaching over to hit a button on a touchscreen with several active controls on it is likely to result in a mis-step (mute the wrong mic, for example) compared to feeling for the third button from the upper left corner.

      I mean lets be honest, Neumann makes good stuff. They're a pretty respected name. But most of us will never own a Neumann mic because they're pretty expensive and beyond what its worth spending money on for non-professional users. That's fine. Same with this interface: the target market isn't average guys recording at home. Its meant for people who are creating content commercially, either on a fairly established monetized streaming channel, studio work, voice over work or whatever else. It looks like a damn nice tool for that job. If its outside your budget, just use something you can justify spending the money on instead. Why is that so fucking hard for people to get?

    Edit: Not for that price. I can’t afford that I’m a struggling artist lifestyle. Hey Glenn, let me have that. 😘

    C'mon Glenn! I only just purchased the Nux Mighty Plug Pro! I'll have to declare bankruptcy if I click on every affiliate link of a product you recommend! Further edit: Why do you always have the cymbals so quiet in a mix?

    It's a beauty but expensive lol. If you are a guitar player and not an engineer you would be better off getting a DI and a load box, Radial makes good inexpensive front end gear. Not the same as Neuman but I doubt most would hear the difference.

      yes i was kinda waiting for Glenn to say "It's super nice but if you can't afford this, make some great music with something 1/10 of the price..." but hey it's vendor sponsored content and it's not like he hasn't said so much in general terms before.

      @@SebBrosig Can't blame the guy, he's gotta make cash and the unit itself is what he says it is. The rest of us can let our pockets make up our minds for us hehe

      @@SpectreSoundStudios I just watched the vid you did on that, curious if you ever reached out to them or vice versa. Or is you ever had the unit checked for malfunction.

    Not bad, but at that price, I'd probably go with a presonus studio live 32sc series 3 mixer as my interface.

    People in the comments:
    Its a tool for pros.
    It has a talkback mic, 2 monitor pair outputs...
    The price is not for us home studio engineers.
    Its ok.
