Jenny Savilles work for the Manics is a personal favourite, her painting on the cover of Journal for Plague Lovers even having the "honour" of being banned!

She studied at Glasgow late 80s-90s. We had a tutor who made much of the fact that he put her onto painting with bigger brushes as though that was the thing that made her a success!
