This was the first long-form program edited on an Avid Media Composer. I was fortunate enough to be the editor and I can tell you it was a blessing and a curse. To be honest, the software really wasn't ready for a project of this length. On the other hand, I would have been almost impossible without non-linear technology.

During the "Heidi" game, I was on the air as a disc jockey at a radio station in Texas. I got a call on our request line from someone who had been watching the game and wanted to know the final score. I asked, "Didn't you see it?" The caller angrily said, "No, they changed the program." I thought he meant someone in his house turned the channel. I went back to the UPI news wire and got the score and gave it to the guy on the phone. It wasn't until the next day that I learned NBC had screwed up and cut the game off before it ended.

One glaring omission was the talents of Keith Jackson, he covered a plethora of sports and was excellent at all of them.

    • @kiasax2
      @kiasax2 10 месяцев назад

Keith Jackson was the first play-by-play announcer on Monday Night Football, I believe.
Regardless, Keith Jackson was a great announcer of all sports.
Being able to see some of these great sports announcers was such
a thrill for me because I grew up watching them call these games that were so important to me.
Jim McKay, Curt Gowdy, Howard Cosell, Frank Gifford, Dandy Don Meredith, Pat Sumerall, Brent Musberger, Phyllis George, Bill Macatee, Jim Nantz, etc.
Plus seeing Jackie Robinson stealing home, was astonishing!

When I told her who the hosts are, she replied, “wow, what a lineup.” It would be interesting to do an update of the show.

Howard burnt a lot of bridges and hurt a lot feelings by his ego or his book, by his end. I would think HBO didn’t want to cause any friction with any of the other hosts by having him on. If he even wanted to be on it.

I am so glad that they included the late, great Chris Schenkel as one of the greatest announcers of all time. I was afraid that he would not be given his place among the greats because he spent a large part of his later career years doing bowling, which had plummeted in terms of popularity. But make no mistake, he was a world class announcer long before that.

Nope..CBS showed the first taped TV cam shots of it in 1960 as part of the CBS SPORTS SPECTACULAR with BUD PALMER hosting, and ABC on WIDE WORLD of SPORTS carried it in cut-in live, and mostly taped, somewhat updated, portions from 1962-78..
In 1979 with KEN SQUIER as lead lap by lap mic. man, CBS for the first time broadcasted it in its entirety from flag to flag..live.
On cable, TBS carried it beginning in '83..
On the bcast nets, CBS carried it until FOXSPORTS took it in 2001, the race where DALE EARNHARDT SR.
horribly crashed into the wall, and died.
CBS was the first network ever to show a NASCAR race= the DAYTONA 500..
ABC in 1971 showed for the first time many NASCAR WINSTON CUP races on the circuit, some of them live from flag to flag.
R.I.P. to BUD PALMER, a former BASKETBALL ALL-AMERICAN and three year NY KNICKERBOCKER
(in the B.A.A.=one of the leagues, NBL was the other, that was the forerunner to the NBA)in the 1940's, one of the first players ever to shoot jumpshots in college.
Shout out.. to still with us at 88, KEN SQUIER one of the first NASCAR experts and P.A. and newsreel voices in the 1950's, 60's and Seventies, along with top NASCAR TV pit reporter on ABC AND CBS in the 70's era and the TBS lap by lap announcer until 1997..
