    Thank you, because I was confused if it would be the edge of the ring that first meets the line it stops on.. or the center of the ring that sits on the line dead center that determines the size.
    Much appreciated :-)

    Thanks for this. I had an old broken ring fixed at a shop today, they pushed it on the ring sizer really hard and sized in a shop today and said it was an L, but I was told originally that it was a K and a half. Are you supposed to push it really far on so it cannot move at all on the ring sizer? Thanks.

      You get a more accurate measurement if you push the ring onto the mandrel so it doesn’t move. With an old or repaired ring, pushing the ring with a bit of force can help to round it. Hope that answers your question. 😀

      @@OnlineJewelryAcademythanks so much! What a quick reply too!! Really appreciate it. Settles my mind as I didn’t want to end up having to part with it again after getting it back to get it resized again. Thank you 😊

    If my ring is 10mm wide and It measures size 9 on the mandrel, what do I tell my customers the ring size is? Do I say it fits size US 8.5 or just that its a 10mm wide ring size 9. Not sure what the right way is to avoid confusion when people order a premade ring online. Thank you so much! ! !

      I recommend advertising the ring as a size 9 and including the width in the description. You could include a line in the description stating that wider bands may fit slightly more snuggly. Good luck with your sales. 🍀

    Is there any flexibility to the size since the human hand is not rigid like the ring mandrel?

    • @OnlineJewelryAcademy
      @OnlineJewelryAcademy  3 года назад

      No. The metal remains the same size while the hand may grow or shrink in size. That’s why there are techniques for increasing or decreasing the size of metal rings. 😀

    Crazy that I had to find a video from 8 years ago just to provide such basic info! All the other newer videos go into WAYYYY too much other specifics, like if this than that but if that than this (You get the picture)... Which is great for professionals but for someone who normally doesn't sell jewelry but just happens to be listing a few pieces all that I needed was the very basic info that this video provided. If you ever wanted to update this video with more in-depth info please add the basic info in the beginning for us newbies. Then go into the if it's curved or flat inside or over 5mm or whatever more in-depth info. I think providing both is great... But it seems like all the videos are either one of the other.

    I just bought a mandrel from Wal-Mart and the ring sizer and when I measure the ring sizer wirh the mandrel it reads on the mandrel one size less .very helpful your video I don't know why this happens with my mandrel

      Sometimes products are marked incorrectly. But it may be that you are forgetting to add three times the metal thickness to your ring blank. Be sure to watch the OJA video on making a simple ring/band. It will show you that if you do not add three times the metal thickness to the ring blank you'll end up with the ring size that you want as the outer diameter of the ring. : )

    What about an 8mm comfort fit how do you measure it? Thanks

    • @OnlineJewelryAcademy
      @OnlineJewelryAcademy  6 лет назад

      A comfort fit just means that the interior of the ring is curved slightly. The interior curve doesn't effect the ring's size. So, you would determine the size of the ring exactly the same way that you would any other ring.

    I wish you well. The audio stinks. Using the mic on camera is often a bad idea.
    I hope you've gotten a personal mic since the time of this video.
    Update: I see that the spokesperson is wearing a lapel mic. I wonder what took place, as we're not hearing the spokesperson by way of that mic. Oh well.
