I got my first _BerlinWood_ in 2003 and soon a set of _Winkler Wheels_ followed - it blew our minds when we discovered this early quality fingerboard equipment at a local skateshop in Berlin. Unfortunatly we had to keep purchasing Techdeck oldschool/longboard trucks because they kept disintegrating quite reliably. Because of the trucks fingerboards always kept feeling a little "toy-ish" for some years even though the rest of the setup was as high-end as it gets, especially for the time. We virtually longed for someone coming up with a solid tuning truck. It must have been around the time when _Blackriver_ introduced their trucks when I eventually dropped out fingerboarding because my life was somewhat turbulent to put it mildly. I had lost my fingerboard and considered getting a new one, and if I would do so then certainly without any _Techdeck_ crutches this time. But then I heard they were asking for more than 50€ - I had bought pairs of real _Independent_ trucks for less and thought "F☠️k it, that's way too over the top in a way I don't want to support" and cancelled the whole idea. I underestimated the effort put into quality trucks and only saw them exploiting the desperation of fingerboarders - something which I regret now. This autumn I suddenly felt like fingerboarding again and got a complete at ASI Berlin - I had seen that by now there were affordable trucks still way superior to Techdeck, finally I could enjoy fingerboarding without having to worry about wheels on separated axle pins flying around. But now I dug into fingerboarding to catch up and the stuff I've seen available nowadays was an outright revelation. Despite having an actually sufficient entry level setup I couldn't help myself to set up an even better one. I got a quality deck which is "more crisp", wheels with metal core, and the only thing missing would be the _Obsius_ trucks which already on their way. I can't wait to get it - the resulting board will be like something we only could have dreamt of back in the day!

Where would be the best place to reach out with some pictures? I have a bunch of wooden brands from the early 2k's that you didn't have pics of in your deck retrospect.
Chris I love your videos! Only one suggestion: please consider making the background music quieter. It's really difficult to hear you sometimes, or concentrate on what you are saying through the loud music. Especially the beginning was loud, the rest was fine 🙂.
Hardly anything that came after stacks up to the original pro truck. Basically anything with inverted kingpins has been inferior from my experience. Even Ys are highly outdated an have a ton of QC issues. BRT, Dynamic SE, and UAG are the best. Only thing I haven’t tried are SBs. Also my 2KR never came (refused to send more) so fuck em.. they look like old TDLBs that have been shaped anyway. If you need custom sizes IndustryFB will do full hangers instead of just longer axles like Caramel does. Dynamic occasionally does custom sizes too.
Got china trucks got one setup, brts on another and dynamics on my main. Tbh I love all three, the china trucks are clearly less in quality but honestly not bad and better than a tech deck truck still...
The whole thing about the china replicas just doesn't make any sense. Since when do you have to condone something to record it as part of history? It's a significant part of the history happening right now, and it was actually the thing I was most looking forward to hearing about in this video. If the best we can do for recording fingerboardings history is only covering the highlights, then we're going to get a very inaccurate image looking back. I hope you can take this into consideration going forward. I'm not asking you to be a drama channel, but I don't think anyone wants or benefits from a one-sided recording of history. I really appreciate what you're doing. I just want to see this channel be the best it can be
I appreciate the comment. First, I wouldn't categorize replica trucks as a professional truck option, which is what this video is focused around. There's just a massive difference in quality of design and materials between pro trucks and their replica counterparts. On a separate note, the companies mentioned in this video have invested time, thought, and money developing original designs. We are talking hundreds of hours and tens of thousands of dollars up front. Those replica trucks manufacturers cheap out every step of the way. If they were unwilling to put energy into developing their own designs, then they sure as hell are going to cheap out on customer service, quality control, materials, etc. To me, that's not professional. I do understand many fingerboarders are looking for inexpensive options that are better than base Tech Deck trucks. This is the space replica trucks play!
@@cdplaya I See where you're coming from, but I don't see how it has much to do with my statement. You phrased it in the video that you aren't including them, because you don't condone their usage. I'm guessing that was a misunderstanding/miscommunication, since it seems like those are two separate thoughts, from your reply. I don't think their lack of professionalism excludes them from being a part of pro truck history, as they are a direct result of the trucks they are knocking off. I get what you're thinking was on the matter, but I think a video on budget trucks would be more likely to sway people towards buying them, since viewers of that video are more likely to be looking for cheap trucks. I completely agree with all your statement on the hard work put into pro trucks and all the things the replicas lack, I just don't think that means they aren't part of the discussion. I think that it means they are a part of the discussion to be balked at and ridiculed for their complete lack of morals.
@@Daneh97 Valid points, and I definitely could have communicated my reasons for not including replicas in this video. I still think replicas belong in a budget truck video and not a pro truck video - while their designs are a copy pro trucks, the materials and construction is definitely not the same if that makes sense!
Yea, it's interesting and I've wondered that myself! There's a locking mechanism built into the hanger and the single axle. You can see part of the design at 1:50 in the video!
Loved the video, the end about IP theft with trucks... At this point truck designs have been standard for 50 years. People claim Tech Deck copied Black Rivers truck design. Gotta say its at design point where you cant make a new design only copy and improve on another. If i make a new style of door that has rounded corners and it sells, did i reinvent the door? Or just modify the old design? Did I steal the IP of the first door maker? Nah, its a door. Just like its a truck. Doesnt take massive thought to copy some measurements
just to be clear... theres no beef with obsius, right? couldnt tell if u were speaking poorly of other chinese knock-offs, or obsius themselves. Was just confused cuz they seem solid but idk i havent used them personally. have been wanting to check them out tho
No beef with Obsius at all! I respect the brand for being original and for how they handled their initial issues with product breaking. They went above and beyond making it right so def think they are legit 😁
the quality of brt is better but dynamics dont have the pin sticking out as much which does sometimes hinder me when using brt trucks + brt bushings are not good i think both or equal good
Very interesting in special when we look at the point that dual bearings seems not to be a thing anymore… I questioning my self why it is how it is cuz dual bearings would fix so many issues on the wheel side… No slipping bearings anymore and with that way longer lasting wheels… It’s sad that the manufacturer goes away from that path…
Oh and on my main setup I run in the moment the ASI-shop truck 2.0, it’s this single axis china truck which you can find on many cheap boards with a similar design to the blackriver trucks (noticeable different but still the best comparison I could find 😅) but the standard baseplate like on the 29mm tech deck trucks… They are pretty nice for the 10€ (more or less the same in $) they cost and they came in many different colors in 32 or 34mm, on all other decks I still run modified tech deck trucks with 32mm hanger, 29mm baseplate and some rubber bushings… Next month I will finally take the money for blackriver trucks and for my other setups I will get another 2.0 ASI shop truck and the new ASI 3.0 with advanced single axis connection and a new baseplate… With that I have finally enough good trucks for all my setups (run 4, 2 different main setups, a EDC setup and a f*ck up setup just to ride‘n‘destroy…
I too wish there were more dual bearing options! I know Y-Trucks are designed for dual bearings, so at least there's one pro truck company out there able to utilize them.
@@cdplaya yeah not only them, even some cheaper trucks provide that like the ASI-Shop trucks but the way bigger issue, where will you get wheels with dual bearings? I mean I have trucks which would support it (ASI 2.0 Trucks) but you find nowhere in Germany wheels with dual bearings so what does it bring to me that I COULD use them but still can’t cuz no dual bearing wheels out there…😅 How I sad, it’s a bummer that this would fix so many issues but no one seems to care about… (without both of us..) 🙈😅

Woa! Im stuck with brr and ytrucks😄😄😄
really wish someone makes reverse kingpin trucks like those on longboards
only tech deck has done that with their longboards from over 10 years ago
Ytrucks and brts are 🐐
I have brt 1 with the winkler to match and dynamic with dynamic butter wheels
I currently have two set ups one has 32mm black rivers and my other set up has 36mm dynamics
Where would be the best place to reach out with some pictures? I have a bunch of wooden brands from the early 2k's that you didn't have pics of in your deck retrospect.
I'm using Noah wood, purple pro trucks.
Amazing video as usual. I've ridden a Y-truck from 2012 to the present.
I need to get a set of x5 Y-Trucks! I had a pair of x1s I won in a contest back in 2009 - I'm curious to see how they evolved!
What width are the tech deck wide trucks? I found my old no comply deck with tech deck wide trucks on it and I want to get a set of blackriver trucks.
I use Blackriver 2.0 and Dynamics both are great but Blackriver is a little heavy
For sure! I love both! Brts have that heftiness which I like on most setups
Chris I love your videos! Only one suggestion: please consider making the background music quieter. It's really difficult to hear you sometimes, or concentrate on what you are saying through the loud music. Especially the beginning was loud, the rest was fine 🙂.
Thank you! Yeah, seems like in general the feedback has been turn the music down haha I'll ensure it's less loud!
I ride the blackriver trucks 34mm🤙
courrently riding dynamic trucks. can someone say what the best wheels are?
Got china trucks got one setup, brts on another and dynamics on my main. Tbh I love all three, the china trucks are clearly less in quality but honestly not bad and better than a tech deck truck still...
How come you never mention dynamic trucks. Or did I miss that.
Dynamic is there! 10:03 :)
are caramel/dynamic and obsidian the only 36mm trucks?
I’m riding a mix of brts and dynamics but I prefer dynamics
Right on! I mostly ride BRTs but now have three new sets of Dynamic I'm excited to setup!!
If I did a video on budget trucks, I would include replica trucks as an option though!
And agree 💯 on your last statement. Almost think it deserves its own video on to discuss!
Im using brt's 34mm wide
How do the get the axle to stay put?
Yea, it's interesting and I've wondered that myself! There's a locking mechanism built into the hanger and the single axle. You can see part of the design at 1:50 in the video!
I wish yellowwood got more love YTrucks are great but I think the shipping is what hurts popularity
I had a set of x1 YTrucks when they first released - I def need to try out the x5s!
@@cdplaya their great trucks
BRT caramel for big setups yellow truck and obsius trucks
I’m riding black river for over 6 months
Wide (32mm) BRTs, religiously.
I ride a wush fire mold 33.7 mm deck eureka trucks joycult classics with Chems v4 grip
Tech deck trucks🔥
do a video showing how fingerboard trucks are made, i cant find how its made
just to be clear... theres no beef with obsius, right? couldnt tell if u were speaking poorly of other chinese knock-offs, or obsius themselves. Was just confused cuz they seem solid but idk i havent used them personally. have been wanting to check them out tho
No beef with Obsius at all! I respect the brand for being original and for how they handled their initial issues with product breaking. They went above and beyond making it right so def think they are legit 😁
I’m rideing the teak tuning prodigy trucks
Right on! I haven't tried those yet
the quality of brt is better but dynamics dont have the pin sticking out as much which does sometimes hinder me when using brt trucks + brt bushings are not good i think both or equal good
Obsiuis/ Poli/ illpills!
32mm brts gold base plate
I’m running with a set 35mm caramel trucks
Nice! The fact Caramel can do all the custom sizes is awesome
nice vid! i'm running gold x4 ytrucks right now
Nice! I just ordered a set of x4s - looking forward to seeing how much they've changed since the x1!
I didn’t know that Chris Daniels was the man behind this channel 😮
It's true!😁
I love your ff 2022 part
@@ConnectYourBones Thank you!!
@@cdplaya your welcome man. I’ve been tryna find if you had a RUclips or a insta and I solved my own question
Very interesting in special when we look at the point that dual bearings seems not to be a thing anymore…
I questioning my self why it is how it is cuz dual bearings would fix so many issues on the wheel side…
No slipping bearings anymore and with that way longer lasting wheels…
It’s sad that the manufacturer goes away from that path…
Oh and on my main setup I run in the moment the ASI-shop truck 2.0, it’s this single axis china truck which you can find on many cheap boards with a similar design to the blackriver trucks (noticeable different but still the best comparison I could find 😅) but the standard baseplate like on the 29mm tech deck trucks…
They are pretty nice for the 10€ (more or less the same in $) they cost and they came in many different colors in 32 or 34mm, on all other decks I still run modified tech deck trucks with 32mm hanger, 29mm baseplate and some rubber bushings…
Next month I will finally take the money for blackriver trucks and for my other setups I will get another 2.0 ASI shop truck and the new ASI 3.0 with advanced single axis connection and a new baseplate…
With that I have finally enough good trucks for all my setups (run 4, 2 different main setups, a EDC setup and a f*ck up setup just to ride‘n‘destroy…
I mean I have trucks which would support it (ASI 2.0 Trucks) but you find nowhere in Germany wheels with dual bearings so what does it bring to me that I COULD use them but still can’t cuz no dual bearing wheels out there…😅
How I sad, it’s a bummer that this would fix so many issues but no one seems to care about… (without both of us..) 🙈😅
It's a shame that there aren't a lot of people shaping his tech deck trucks nowadays, it's so easy if you have a dremel, i'm still doing that
What are pro trucks made out of, skate trucks are made of aluminum alloys. I’m guessing it’s the same.
I skate and I’m good at cad I’ve drawn some trucks I can 3D print some I’m wondering what alloy to use, I’m thinking about bronze.
Not 100% sure but I believe most companies use aluminum alloys!
Honestly i just rock td trucks with a baseplate with a shorter kingpin
I’m in Australia and every thing is so expensive here
I just want to confirm that the second picture of eureka that is a purple one is not a eureka, it is a plagiarized truck made by the company fan-team, the real eureka is from a company called dtzero.
Ah, thank you for letting me know!
I'll see if I can get the right Eureka truck image. Plagiarized trucks are really bothersome 😓
@@cdplaya you could just search dtzero erueka trucks
I’ve rocked blackriver OG and 3.0s, I might’ve had whatever Y trucks were out in 2015-16ish when I had bought a yellowwood deck (that’s what I would typically do, just can’t remember now)
Teak tuniiiiiing! 🖐✊️😑
