Love this! The "always following through" point is something I've always done, and it helped me realize all the possible tricks that I stumbled upon on accident. For me I thought of the following: consistency - practice often, resiliency - don't give up when something is difficult, intentionality - practice with intent and focus, and lastly eggality - eat lots of eggs.
I'm returning to fingerboarding after 10 years, and these tips are so good. Not only am I slowly remembering how to do some stuff, landing tricks I've not even landed before 10 years ago. The tip for learning how to do tricks from different hand positions makes a world of difference especially when doing tricks on obstacles. Thank you Mike!
One thing that helped me was to just keep doing it. I remember I was 12 and so pissed I couldn't do what I wanted. By the time I was 19 I could pretty much lock into any trick I think about lol. Just keep doing it.. It'll be a lifetime reward.
MAN, not tryna make you feel old but i was watching your vids when i was like.. 13 and im about to be 23. Its kinda cool to see you still post and do what you love! :)
I LOVE that this isnt just an ad for a program or product. Some of this advise is actually counter to selling a product but its actually good advise. You the man Mike.
Yes!!! if you're practicing a trick or trick to grind and get close/sketchy just adjust your fingers and complete it to get used to the feeling of truly doing it
One thing I do, in fingerboarding, skating and most things really, is since I have OCD pretty badly I try to use it to my advantage and make things into little games. For example, ill have to land 6 kickflips in a row, if I miss any I start over, when I do them all i move on to the next set of tricks. It can be in any fashion, kf/fakie kf/nollie flip/switch flip all in a row. It can get intense and even frustrating at times but the key is repetition and getting the muscle memory. Learn the basics til you can do them in your sleep, they open the door to everything else. Lastly, don't always look at things as a whole at first, even if it seems obvious sometimes breaking things down can unlock things. You can bs 180? You can kickflip? Well when you pop that bs 180, flip your kf. Keep making small adjustments in foo positioning, weight and balance until it works. Now you can Bs flip. Practice, PATIENCE and A LOT of repitition is the key to learning literally anything. Everything he said is spot on as well! Good stuff!
You should make a fingerboard collection vid talking about the story behind the setup and overall just going deep into your collection. Thanks for the video, the first part made me learn kickflip back tail
Oh damn, I used to watch your videos when you were a kid I want to say around 2007-2009! So dope you're still fingerboarding. I'll mess around here and there still
like for example im tryin out tre flip crook to nollie flip crook,i keep getting on different slides and grinds and sometimes it's even better than the actual trick combo im tryin haha
Exactly! I feel like "accidentally" landing into different grinds and playing them off really helps. I've been trying so hard to get into a perfect 50-50 from a fliptrick, that I would give up if it landed in anything different. Bad practice on my part. Now that I'm taking Mike's (and your) advice, I've gotten the feeling of many different grinds and can do them quicker than learning them on their own if that makes sense.
If you have the time and resources available, making your own obstacles with wood or concrete is super rewarding and encourages you to keep practicing. It’s what really helped me progress.
Hey Mike! I've always love to see this kind of video which you talk about your opinions on fingerboarding stuff, and i would love to see more of this kind of videos!
Hey Mike! The "Committing to your tricks" or "following through with them" advice is very very helpful! I would always just "give up" after I felt that the trick didn't feel right, but now I do my best to get my fingers into position for landing said trick, and it's helped a ton! An example: I'm learning flips into grinds and working on my accuracy. I'm trying to land into 50-50, but whenever I didn't land perfectly, I would give up. Now taking your advice into account, I've gotten the feeling of landing into many different grinds, just on "accident". Just landed a kickflip-feeble, front shuv out. (Pretty simple, but I'm a beginner, cut me some slack 😂)
I started fingerboarding since 2014 and I found Mike schneider, ever since I continue fingerboarding and I've never had companion to have to sesh with, it get boring but this month I saw a fingerboard event and it is my first joining in sadly I'm late at registration so I didn't get to join Game of skate but fingerboard run is Available I got 3rd place and I got best in kickflip. It feels good to win and I'm stoked again to fingerboard I realize that I cannot leave fingerboarding. Mike schneider is my Motivation because he is my childhood Idol. I always Love your vids mike! I hope I will meet you soon! Shout to my fellow fingerboarders in the Philippines!
I will definitely use your advice ive been having motivation problems lately and I just recently hit my first total year fingerboarding and I think im gonna give it another go thank you for everything you do for this community Mike you're the best
I did like this video. I really wanna get my own fingerboard & start doing this myself. Looks like a lot of fun, & something I can actually do. I actually tried to get into regular skateboarding. But I wasn't very physically active already. So I gave up on it immediately. But, I'm really glad I found you can do fingerboarding. It's something I can actually do too. :)
i have been waiting for this since like 2012 dude. I think the edits are amazing but we would like to hear more from the legend himself. Great video even tho most the tips i knew. This would be amazing for anyone new even me as a 15 year vet i learned i need a healthy breakfast every morning llololol much love FLATFACE FOR LIFE! My favorite setup going on 1 year now is my Cowply x Flatface with BRTs and Illpillz.
I've always tried out new trick in a sitting position and I put the fingerboard on the side of my leg to the top...helps you feel out the process of the trick from forming it to follow through to catch and land. Also with grinds and slides it helps to feel it out on the rail or ledge first meaning how it's going to feel once on the OBSTACLE and follow through and coming out of said grind or slide
damn, those tips are awesome! Learned nose slides and flip to grinds today because of them. Everything just clicks so much faster with just following through the failed ones and focusing more on finger placement for slides :O
When first starting out, I used to pretend that the rail I was trying to grind was much larger. Helped me hit the target if I imagined that it was bigger for some reason. Hope this helps.
It's crazy how yesterday, I was practicing & I noticed, I was landing more with my new green blind board. Than, the rest of my boards that I got. It's even more crazy how youtube suggested this to me as soon as I got on RUclips.
I had a yellow wood I used for like 5 years there such good decks but now I got a Berlin wood it’s different with the nose not being tapered but I like the shape
Just put it like this...let go. Let the mind guide the fingers unconsciously for you to watch the magic. Any real rider in any boardsport never admits the surprise in every make & the disappointment that follows, hence the madness that ensues chasing perfection achieved by accident. 😂
Why do I feel like Mike cooking eggs and helping me fingerboard would be life changing he seems so chill
Didn't his mom cook them?
You may be right
I feel like this is few times I've ever heard him talk its good you should make more like this
i agree i want to hear more, so much to learn
this is perfect for a returning fingerboader

I was 11 and now I'm 21. Time flies so fast.
Mike dropping the ancient knowledge, I’m trying to get my flips this consistent
I LOVE that this isnt just an ad for a program or product. Some of this advise is actually counter to selling a product but its actually good advise. You the man Mike.
I'm returning to fingerboarding after 4 years, I'm getting my first pro board in 2 days and this should help a lot. Thanks :D
Same im back too, I've been fingerboard since 2014
You still fingerboarding?
Yes!!! if you're practicing a trick or trick to grind and get close/sketchy just adjust your fingers and complete it to get used to the feeling of truly doing it

1:09 what Mike said from here can be applicable in life too you know
You should make a fingerboard collection vid talking about the story behind the setup and overall just going deep into your collection. Thanks for the video, the first part made me learn kickflip back tail
ik this was 10 months ago, but on FlatFace there is a Museum page which has a lot of Mike's collection and a little info about each board :)
@@liltwiggy49dang now ur comment is 10 months ago lol
Ive literally seen your youtube videos since 8th grade I am now 26 years old.. life is crazy glad you’re doing great.
Oh damn, I used to watch your videos when you were a kid I want to say around 2007-2009! So dope you're still fingerboarding. I'll mess around here and there still
It’s always a treat when you post videos like this. Thanks Mike
woww, i actually practice fingerboard tricks like these unconsiously
like for example im tryin out tre flip crook to nollie flip crook,i keep getting on different slides and grinds and sometimes it's even better than the actual trick combo im tryin haha

"when you accidentally get into a boardslide" *gets perfectly into a boardslide* hahah mike can even show you a mistake perfectly. amazing
Finally a video that says something other than “practice”
If you have the time and resources available, making your own obstacles with wood or concrete is super rewarding and encourages you to keep practicing. It’s what really helped me progress.
I've been a serious fingerboarder for years and yet this still helped me greatly
Hey Mike! I've always love to see this kind of video which you talk about your opinions on fingerboarding stuff, and i would love to see more of this kind of videos!
I have come back to this video many times to hear these tips again and again and again so I keep remembering them while I'm practicing thank you

Really solid advice man thanks for taking the time to reach out👊
Appreciate you mike! Always looking out for the community!
I think the single best advice here to take away is always landing your fingers on the obstacle, it helped me a ton for getting more consistent
Landing your fingers on the obstacle every try has really helped me. Another big thing is just good ol repetition
I did like this video. I really wanna get my own fingerboard & start doing this myself. Looks like a lot of fun, & something I can actually do. I actually tried to get into regular skateboarding. I coming to the flat face store for thanksgiving break and I’m so hyped hope you’ll be there mike! Can’t wait to be there
Thanks for the talk was so great to watch!
Muscle memory is important. There are excersizes you can do with your fingers for guitar that can help with finger boarding.
I know you're busy as hell Mike, but keep making videos like this. They are awesome.
Love your wheels and decks
Tip from darkwood is actually really good. Gunna need to apply that a lot more.
Do more vids like these
Thanks mike for these incredible tips

Thanks for the pro tips!
When first starting out, I used to pretend that the rail I was trying to grind was much larger. Helped me hit the target if I imagined that it was bigger for some reason. Hope this helps.
This video helped me, to make a decision, how I will try to progress.
This is awesome mike! Been thinking of getting back into it!
It's crazy how yesterday, I was practicing & I noticed, I was landing more with my new green blind board. Than, the rest of my boards that I got. It's even more crazy how youtube suggested this to me as soon as I got on RUclips.

Just put it like this...let go. Let the mind guide the fingers unconsciously for you to watch the magic. Any real rider in any boardsport never admits the surprise in every make & the disappointment that follows, hence the madness that ensues chasing perfection achieved by accident. 😂
thanks !!!
amazing video michael
solid advice
In fact I've been landing 5050 to backside lip and other variations like tail to backside lip and stuff it's possible
