I wonder if, when the supply of M14's starts running low, if this rifle will be used by the military at some point? It's definitely controllable, and has the desired round for long-range applications in a semi-automatic platform.

Definitely controllable, but how is the grouping on the 100 and 200 yard line when firing at say 600rpm?
5.56 is .223, But 7.62x51 is the .308. 7.62x54 is closer to a .30-06

7.62x51 is the NATO round. You said 7.62x54, that's a Russian round
