    It's not entirely correct to say he didn't hold an office of power. He was a prominent leader in the UK contingent at the EU, making many speeches and voting on many issues over the years. The Conservative party after the next election may only have 100 - 120 MPs and it depends whether the moderates or the headbangers are those on the dole. The elected leader is first chosen by the parliamentary party and only the top two contestants are offered for the membership to choose a leader. There may be a lot of "Portillo" moments on election night, it just depends on how many of the headbangers survive.

The Tory members want him back (according to a recent poll) and he said he'd go back if it went back to being "conservative" again. Combine all this to the Tories are losing votes to Reform (Tories would have retained both Mid-Bedforshire and Tamworth with the Reform share of the vote) and you can see why bringing back Farage is such a realistic prospect.

But he never will be in power, so he can always say he'd have done it better, safe in the knowledge no one can ever prove him wrong. If he ever got near the reigns of power he'd have to actually push for his policies in government, which would then fail and the grift would be over. He can make far more money and soothe his narcissism far better from the outside. I think he's just saying it for the bit, to throw up a media storm and drum up more popularity. Probably too late though, you've handed over your country gleefully to people who celebrate terrorism and leech off your welfare and mass grape your young girls while the Police turn a blind eye. Addtionally the poll data shows that labour isn't getting that many more votes, its simply tories deciding to abstain from voting as aprotest or voting reform. This isnt labour being more popular its just the usual 2 party state "the least worse option" if we had a total of 17 years of nothing happening, you will get a 2016 like trump election in 2029.

      We may not be a member anytime soon, but I think at some stage, we will have a much closer relationship with the EU. EFTA/EEA membership is more likely than regained EU membership.

    • @paologat
      @paologat 6 месяцев назад

      @@rayc9539 EFTA is very unlikely, as England is much larger than any EFTA member - not a good match for them. An independent Scotland would be a more likely candidate.
      The EU is very dissatisfied with its patchwork deal with Switzerland and won’t replicate it - even less so with a country that tried to renegotiate the withdrawal agreement before the ink was dry.
      An EFTA-like, take-it-or-leave-it deal might be acceptable to the EU, assuming no member state exercises its veto; but I strongly doubt UK would ever consider becoming officially a EU vassal.
      This leaves the long way out: UK aligning unilaterally to EU regulations (but only because it wants to, not because it must 😉), implementing the huge constitutional reforms required to meet the Copenhagen Criteria, achieving a stable supermajority in favor of EU membership, and eventually applying to join again. I expect this will require several decades of self inflicted pain for Little Brexitannia.

    • @rayc9539
      @rayc9539 6 месяцев назад

      @paologat Oh, I see. I mean, although there has been growing interest in renewed EU membership by the public, it is still a long way off the UK being a full member again.
      There have been talks of the UK being a rule taker, rather than a rule maker, if it were to have a closer relationship with the EU (some sort of associate membership that grants access to the single market?)
      In any event, I still believe it was ridiculous for us to have used a simple majority vote to enact such a major constitutional change with so much uncertainty. Impordsntly, the vote was advisory! 51.9% isn't exactly an overwhelming majority... I learnt that some leave voters voted leave because they would rather the UK be an EFTA/EEA member, in turn paying less to the EU budget, but still having access to the single market.
      On the topic of EEA membership , it was offered to Theresa May during the negotiations. She refused on the grounds "it wouldn't be in the will of the British people". The British people were never asked anything about that proposal. She is just a corrupt like her counterparts.
      And now, here we are - left with a hard brexit and economic damage. They could have revoked article 50 at any point up until January 31st, 2020.

      @paologat 6 месяцев назад +1

    There's also another scenario. Farage takes a lot of inspiration from the Canadian Reform Party (hence the name Reform UK).
    They were a radical right challenger to the old Conservative Party.
    The Reform Party ended up being the larger party and the two parties ended up merging together.
    Although highly unlikely, it was under first past the post - you can imagine a scenario where the right wing of the Conservative Party defects or does a deal with Reform UK.
    Would love to see a video on this 👍🏻 Keep up the great work

    I cannot see the Tory Party accepting Farage as leader. Even in the (plausible) event of a devastating Tory defeat at the next election and (say) Suella Braverman taking over, he'd have to not just get elected as a Tory (or elected as a UKIP/Reform/whatever MP and then defect to the Tories) but the party would have to depose a leader who he was politically close to. And even if he did manage that, he'd find himself with a fractious party where the moderates MPs (the sort that elected Cameron/May/Sunak and deposed Liz Truss) were rebelling against his leadership. Given the years between 1997 and 2010 where the Conservatives were lost in opposition under leaders from the right of the party (Iain Duncan Smith/Michael Howard) until they went for the more centrist David Cameron who achieved a Conservative majority, it seems implausible that he could actually win a majority (and there is no plausible coalition partner in the event of even being largest party).

      Thank you - that's the first well-thought-out and mostly unbiased assessment of Farage's chances, that I have seen here. I'm surprised that the moderate's may still be a force of power in the party though? Since Farrage was so popular with many of the Tory MP's, I would have assumed that Cameron's cadre was all but wiped out, by now.

      It’s IDF… anyway the point is that having Jewish husband or wife doesn’t mean anything. The U.K. have had numerous politicians who were Jewish, or of Jewish heritage. Jews have been a part of the British community for centuries. Integrated, assimilated and contributed to the U.K. massively, just like they did in Germany, Austria, Italy, France and the Netherlands. No hidden agenda. We extend help and support to those who need it but they don’t have any ill intentions towards us. The idf is not a threat to the U.K..
