I’m very glad to have given this a chance, it’s been a very enjoyable experience so far. I agree with all your points that it needs more content. I’m very grateful the developers at Toys for Bob have been listening to player feedback so far and taking it into account, making reviews like these more important to them. I’m glad that they confirmed that Crash will still be sticking around even if this game flops financially. It’s a shame this was barely marketed, but I’m glad this wasn’t Crash’s final stand or something.
I personally didn’t end up buying it because I wasn’t really hooked on how it would be releasing, despite enjoying the beta for the game (I managed to get a free code). I feel like this could have been a great side game if they had this be a free to play title and have this be announced alongside the next mainline title, but in the end, the marketing just killed this game. They had a big chance to show everyone what it was all about at The Game Awards when it premiered, but it just could not get the objective of the game across.
I hope they try this gameplay style again someday, because it is a quality fame, but it’s held back by an unnecessary paywall for a game that is online only and has a bunch of paid Battle Passes coming up.
I’ll be there for Crash 5 or maybe another CTR game, but this isn’t really my thing, unfortunately, which is a shame because I love Crash.
    Great review, by the way.

If nothing else it's somewhat refreshing to see a teambased PvP that isn't just shooting eachother, I burnt out on all things PvP years ago so I can't bring myself to play this but it's good to see something more creative for a game like this.
I wish more games from larger companies would allow experimentation like they used to, even with this it feels like it's being held back.
What really truly worries me is that it gets marked as a failure, gets shut down and and the suits think Crash isn't worth continuing on, and so history repeats itself. To this day I still can't believe Crash actually made a return, there's still so much potential I'd hate to see it wasted. Let the bandicoot thrive damnit

Absolutely zero interest in Crash Team Rumble at all tbh, to me it seems like it's doomed to fail hard. Hell, I remember reading on the Crash Bandicoot subreddit that CTRumble already dipped BELOW Crash N Sane on the UK sales chart about 2 weeks after it's release.
A single player game from 2017 is outselling a brand new one barely weeks old. That doesn't fill me with confidence at all.
Plus, if the rumours of Spyro of being in this I also do not like. It feels like they're reducing Spyro to being a Crash Bandicoot side character instead of being his own thing. Between that and adding that bat thing, who's never existed in any game before(?), I feel like they don't know what other characters to add, despite CTRacing having a hell of a roster.

    • @robxholicfoxyfan8552

As opposed to Crash being Spyro Skylanders DLC? I don't follow. Spyro and Crash will have cameos of each other (as will Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Dexter and Sly Cooper) because the companies worked alongside each other since the beginning. They actually have more successful games with Spyro in it than Crash, even if Skylanders shoehorned Spyro in it. It still has him. It's only the fault of the companies that until Crash Nitro Kart on Gameboy and later Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled that Spyro was playable or crossing over for more than a cameo without throwing Molotov Cocktails at each other. Like it's always been established that Crash and Spyro, and the PS2 generation trio of Jak, Ratchet, and Sly, are ultimately equals in love and fan connection. Jak and Daxter and Sly Cooper haven't had a new game in eons while Ratchet and Clank have gotten a lot more, yet every fan from all three's launches and even game Developers working on Rift Apart view them as allies and friends almost universally. A pack of success or not isn't going to make the fans sideline Spyro like Mario didn't with Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong is still going strong despite Mario being the focus most of the time.

I agree on offline single player (and possibly split screen couch multiplayer). I feel like if that were there it would also increase the playerbase a bit since more casual Crash fans would be more interested in a game that isn't ALL online competitive. I can kinda understand not having a fully fledged campaign mode right now since they need sufficient content first, but they don't need that for simple offline components.
I also have to add one nitpick but....the game isn't very interesting to watch, and I think that hurts preview footage and marketing as well. Like yeah it's technically glamorous graphic wise, but all the backdrops and music are recycled, and the animations and movesets don't really take advantage of the super cartoony gameplay and premise and generally just look like a stock online game. It's all fun to PLAY but not when you're in the audience seat and I think that leads to many assuming the game would be boring. I think we need more characters like Ripper Roo that have super out there abilities and gameplay styles that look really fun to take control of.

I'll admit, I forgot about this game somewhat, as when I looked it up and saw it was out already, I was like "Wait, it launched already?"
I really would love to get the game and play it, but I'm currently in a tight situation with what I can spend (sucks not having a job, but, I'll say no more about that), because as an avid Crash fan, I basically eat anything relating to the series up, regardless of quality (for better or worse).
However, I've been conceptualizing a Crash Bandcoot multiplayer party game that would stay true to what the series is about, and something that Crash Bash should have been. I'll just skim the details on these ideas, but, here's what I thought of: There could be polar bear races, where Wumpa Fruit can be used to speed up, or used to knock other players into hazards, players could run from a singular boulder while collecting Wumpa Fruit, and getting hit by the boulder loses Wumpa Fruit, jet-ski races, and some other platforming courses the players compete in.

you know the best way to market the characters? do it like Team Fortress 2
it showed off what kind of character they are and then sprinkle a gameplay footage to show how they work in-game while still made sense on what are they trying to say in the animatic trailer.
Like example Coco is a strategist and tell the group to keep getting wumpas and defend the bank while she herself is slowly picking up relics behind the scenes. Or Cortex planning his next evil plan by just transforming characters or dropping pianos everywhere. It's far more entertaining than running around in an empty map to showcase their moveset

So many game devs keep on pushing online games all the time that it's no longer fun to look forward to because these games can become unplayable in the near future.

Without any other content beyond limited time events i barely want to finish the season pass that i paid for. And that's a bummer.

This game gives me a good rush when the games are close or you pull off a classic 2 or 3v1. It’s very unique and I vibe with it. It certainly helps that it’s skinned with a franchise I love. It is a bit pricey, I think the battle pass should be a 1 and done purchase. I’ll be greatly hesitant on the season 2 pass but I’ll definitely still be playing. The game is just nuanced enough with each character that it has some playtime left in it.
My biggest problem is really just pricing and mtx as always. Gameplay loop is addicting, game has personality, it’s a fresh take. Just lame tags with number on them bumming me out.

I absolutely love the core gameplay of this game, but it just isn't enough to justify the $30 price point. I'm more than willing to buy it and all the passes as a hardcore crash fan, but I can't even recommend it to my friends because I know they'll most likely only play a few matches with me. I'd love them to make the game free to play, but then they'd probably introduce a bunch of mtx so I don't even know what to think.

Exactly, it’s like this game format is just a difficult one for Crash.. do you charge for play or make it free to play?? It seems both options are not very good. That’s why I think if they removed that PAID BattlePass and charged a lower price for the game, it might be the best way to do it.. but it’s just a suggestion I’ve been thinking of.. sort of like CTR: NF

I agree with all your issues you have with the game. First with the marketing, I saw many people comments on social medias like "Wait, this is out?" as a exemple. For me, this game should not have cost 30$ due to the battle pass system which forces you to buy battle passes after season 1. No, season 2 battle pass is not included in the standard edition, only the deluxe edition as well the lack of content available in the game.
Which goes to the second point, why this multiplayer only Crash game have 9 maps, 8 characters and only 1 mode without any single-player content at all? The Ratchet PS2 games has way more content in the multiplayer and has single-player content included in the package and that almost was 20 years ago back on the PS2. There could have included at least something if the servers shut down. But nope.
Which goes to the final point, I have a distaste regarding paid live-services games in general because when the game get shut down, your game become a piece of plastic or download that you can't even use. Even if you want to play it and there nobody playing it anymore, the live-service element stops working. Given the terrible sales Rumble is getting right now, it's only a matter of time this game will be shutting down forever. I don't want the game to fail but I see this as DOA and nothing beyond that which is a shame given the potential CT Rumble has.
Keep up the good work Jak! Love your content!

You have hit all the good points in this review video!
I do want to add on a additional frustration is how bad the team balancing is when your a Scorer trying to score points when 3 of your teammates are defenders taking out other opponents but the ideal way to play is to score points.
I would love a team death match to compensate this factor since that's the most popular way to play the game but given its only one game mode is to get wumpa fruit to score points not getting knockouts is not fun.
Furthermore this is a personal opinion but I dislike everyone being the same character more than once like a whole team with ripper roo, cortex etc. I have a real hard time playing when opponents are just screwing you over and making you want to leave a match.

During the build up for nitro feuled once we saw the free tours and how all you have to do is play the game to level it up and get everything it was much better to do that. People are still praying for cup modes, ranked , and no item modes, making the servers better. Giving it the Mario kart 8 deluxe treatment. It still has people that’s play it!

Toys for Bob HAS to implement a match-making mechnism that ensures that your team has a good balance of Scorers, Blockers and Boosters per team. The big problem is that when you end up with a team that has more than 2 of one kind, your team is basically doomed to fail (or at the very least: your entire Team plays at a huge disadvantage). Why wasn't this thought through? And why was this not updated for today's patch? Like, it's a really fun game IF each team has a diverse set of roles... but when everyone decides to pick scorers, then your Team's defensive arm is basically non-existent and you get crushed by the other team.
Whenever I see that my team has an imbalance in the lobby, I switch out my character for another one (even though I don't want to), but not everyone is considerate like this (especially 13 year old kids who probably don't even understand the mechanics of the game).
Also: why the HELL wasn't this released on PC? Cross-play and a wider audience ensures a game's longevity... ESPECIALLY with a multiplayer-only game such as this...
It's sad man... So much potential...

Agreed wholeheartedly with the negatives because it's what puts me off. Live service is already offputting because it's not a promise of content but more speculation of what a company will do only if a game is successful so having a paid barrier of entry is even more risky and the marketing material made it look so boring. If the beta was open, I may have given it a go but paying £40 just for the privilege? Nah, mate. I already despised that Nitro Fuelled patched in MXTs, I sure as hell don't want to support this.
What a shame. Here's hoping either this game or Crash as a whole comes back to form.

I want to give this game a try, but the fact that you had to pay for it in advance doesn't help. I wish they did free weekends or something. Just to let those who still feel skeptical about the game get a chance to play it. I am concerned that this game might not last as long. I was really disappointed that CTR:NF only lasted a year. I wish they would have kept supporting it a bit longer.
Toys for Bob claims that they're gonna continue support for this game, but for how long? A year? Two years? Or will this game's support be cut short? I don't like the live service thing either. It seems like games with live service in them tend to not last for very long. That's why I'm a bit worried.

I agree with a lot of what you had to say in this video dude, as someone who also tends to blindly latch onto anything Crash Bandicoot related regardless if it ends up being good or not, I do want Rumble to succeed, to the point where more people will be able to enjoy it, similar to how CTR Nitro Fueled was, until support for that ended, see I was quite divisive on what Rumble finally would be up until it was officially revealed last year, but I still was willing to give it a chance, as I mentioned the Beta for it was fine and I enjoyed the little time I got to play, but my issue is a lot of people I would normally play a Crash game with just weren't interested in Rumble, a mate of mine for example is a huge Crash fan, but when he found out about Rumble and the $69 NZD price tag they're charging here for this game he quickly lost interest in it, if it became free to play tho I feel the game could possibly strive more with people that don't even like this kind of genre, let alone with a Crash Bandicoot game, other than that I will be checking it out in the future when the game either goes on sale here physically, or when Sony decides to add it to their PS Plus catalogue, as always another damn good video cheers for finally covering this game and giving us your thoughts on it in full.

    @emporcs5546 Год назад

Thank you for this video!! Very well thought out, imo, and you really explained things thoroughly. Thank you also for giving your honest thoughts and not just saying the game is really great just to do so. I’ve been trying to wrap my head around how I feel about this game for a while and have tried to give detailed explanations in the past about how I feel, but you really do a great job getting to the nitty gritty of how I feel about most aspects of this game also. Just like you and many others, as of right now, I think the game is enjoyable for a bit, but can become boring over time and there does need to be a lot more content and updates to keep players engaged (I liked your comparison to CTR back in the day having more characters at launch than this game - I’m sorry, but that really is bad and a problem for me as well .. I honestly wasn’t even thinking about that till you brought it up and now it’s even more frustrating realizing that - IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: This does NOT mean I support rushing games out for the sake of having content or stressing out devs. who work tirelessly already to make and put love into games we enjoy. I just feel as though this game perhaps needed more content at launch as it doesn’t feel like it has enough to warrant the price tag of EVERYTHING you pay for to play this game .. so perhaps have more modes and content ready for the game at launch before releasing it .. if it means delays.. it means delays .. yes, you heard me right .. that being said, the marketing for/hints towards this game should not have started as early as it did because of there not being much content at launch and because people were now expecting the game to be coming out/revealed fairly soon after the teases began).. As I’ve also said before, the business model for this game just isn’t doing it for me - not a fan. They should have just done something similar to/replicated CTR: NF business model in a way and had the game be paid for a low price, NO PAID BattlePass, just LOTS of earnable free cosmetics and such throughout the game that would have been part of the BP (if it were there), AND free seasonal events, modes, challenges, etc. on a more regular basis. I also liked that you brought up how you view the potential playerbase for this title being tiny and why this game is already very limiting and risky from the onset of release (hence why I’ve said before that it seems like a very risky format game they are going for here - ONLINE ONLY (unless, of course, they add an offline single player, which I think they definitely should as a way to not only add more content and keep players engaged, but draw more players in) - that would only appeal to a certain audience/subset within the Crash community, one which Crash has really never seen much of before, alienating many other Crash fans.) I feel like if you are going to introduce such a risky entry to the series, you really have to sell it, and the marketing for this game just doesn’t do that. You would also have the difficult task of convincing some Crash fans that an online multiplayer game can be a lot of fun .. and trust me, that’s not easy to achieve since there are so many different Crash fans out there (and that’s honestly totally fine). My point is that it won’t be easy to get everyone on board.. but with marketing like we got for this game.. it’s like they barely even tried and it’s severely dissatisfying and disappointing. And in terms of comparing this game to Crash: On The Run!, I think the two games are different because one is on mobile devices and the other is on console, so I think COTR gets more of a ‘pass’ for having the business model it had since it was on mobile; that being said, I still don’t like it. Rumble doesn’t get as much of a pass and I expect more from the game since it is releasing on console and not mobile, so, yeah, it’s a big NO to that business model. Like others who enjoy his games, I only want to see Crash do well, and I can’t help but feel like so many mistakes were made here with Crash Team Rumble already and they need to give more fan service and fix LOTS of issues… that lots of people have either already walked off and been turned off from the game or that the marketing has already unintentionally killed the very game it was trying to promote.
