    Any place that does not have a place for a standard bed should not be called an apartment. Even if you like sleeping on a futon, if there is no space for a bed, there is no good space for laying out a futon. It really isn't a livable space. Someone will rent it out if desperation, but i feel very sorry for them.

    I have figured out the solution, Usui-san! All you need to do is get an Egyptian mummy case and store it upright in that weird little entrance space. Then you can sleep in it standing up! 🤣
    But this one is clearly a no anyways since it lacks the essential toilet paper storage. I also don't understand why they put a swinging door on the toilet when a sliding/folding door would block the usable room space much less. 🤔

    The more I think, the more I know: there are people who don't deserve an engineering or architecture degree. How difficult is it to design a building with 90-degree corners? If you don't have space to build decently, don't build. I get outraged by things like that...

    • @Yvkichan
      @Yvkichan 11 месяцев назад +52

      I agree whit you, but I dont think the person who "built" this unit had any engineering or architecture training, let alone a degree, a lot of this "aparments" are just spare spaces some one has and one day thinks, "If I put a batrhoom here I can make 50 000 or so per month whitout any effort" Japanese goverment needs to start regulating this units a little more, this one dosn`'t even have space for a bed

  • @auberginebear
    @auberginebear 11 месяцев назад +28

    If you have a front load washer with a flat top, you could put a small fridge on top, or put in a shelf for it, and the space in the end trace would be perfect for shelf storage. However, you'd definitely need a futon or folding bed for this apartment. Even for that price, this is just too small.

  • @beth8775
    @beth8775 11 месяцев назад +16

    This is the most awkwardly shaped apartment I have ever seen! 😂
    In all honesty, the price is the only thing that would convince me to consider it. The space by the door is basically a closet - just add a rod and shelves. You can put some storage shelves in above the washer too. The futon really is the only bed choice, but you could probably get away with a gate-leg table for more function.

    I would use the mysterious space beside the door as a closet and for shoe storage! A shelf on top of the washer would be helpful for storing cleaning supplies. Request a tiny fridge from the landlord to put under the kitchenette if it fits. Lastly, get a small foldable sofa bed and foldable table and chair.
    It’s cheap rent compared to where I live!

    수납공간은 세탁실의 세탁기를 드럼세탁기로 사용할 경우 상단에 흡착봉으로 옷장을 만들 수 있을 것 같습니다
    침대는 이불 수납 공간을 생각하면 차라리 접이식 침대를 사용하고 사용하지 않을 때는 주방쪽 벽에 접어서 보관하는 것이 용이할 것 같습니다
    하지만 전반적으로 모든 벽면에 문과 설비가 있어 가구를 배치하기 매우 불편할 뿐만 아니라 공간 자체가 삼각형 구조로 낭비되는 공간이 크네요

    Tokyo keeps shocking us with some nooks one considered to name "a livable apartment space" 😅
    This tiny triangle can be, uh, better than living on streets, I think. There's a bathroom (with walls! And doors!), and kitchenette, and maybe some closet solutions above the washing machine and in the shoe rack corner.
    Maaaaybe will be okay for a young person who has to save every penny, as the price seems lower than other apartments you've shown us so far.

    You need to be ok with sleeping on a futon to take this apt. Usui naturally shows a Japanese style futon but I might go with one that folds into a chair instead. IMO a cooktop is useless if you have no room for a refrigerator. I would have placed a sink and a small refrigerator at about the same height as the sink. Then, the tenant could choose to put one of those portable burners on top of the refrigerator. I would choose a coffee maker and tea kettle but other choices could be microwave or toaster. Besides the seeming Japanese obsession with having a personal washing machine despite questionable usefulness because of tiny drum size (Can’t wash bedding!) I also don’t get taking up precious space with built in cooktops either when there is no space for a refrigerator. If I was forced to try to live in this apt as is, I would put a dorm refrigerator in the laundry space (With the coffee maker and tea kettle.) I do appreciate the attempt to make this apt more psychologically attractive with the sky blue wall. 😂

  • @suburbohemian
    @suburbohemian 11 месяцев назад +3

    Yeah, looks like your present place is still the winner, but at least that one has a reasonable price for living in a triangle. And toilet has its own room!!! ;) I'd make a closet out of that nook near the front door, and I'd store the rolled up futon on top of the washer/dryer in the laundry 'room'. A small dining table to function as a desk etc under the window and small fridge at the blue wall with a slim shelf of some sort for pantry and what-nots. It's doable, esp at that price point.

    I like it. Seems like a challenge, lol.
    It's not ideal, but I think I'd put something in the entrance gap that functioned as a wardrobe. I don't need a tall shoe rack, only a small one would do.
    I'd have a futon or folding bed. Then a projector screen for the big blue wall, and a small table and chair (possibly folding).
    There's enough room in the toilet for a small stack of toilet paper, and room above the washing machine to put a shelf in and either put a little fridge up there, or use it for other storage.
    Hopefully I could either find, or make, some corner shelves to fit between the kitchen and window, in that little gap.

    The only piece of permanent furniture to add is a fridge. Everything else would have to be folded up after use. That area near the door would be awesome for wardrobe, but finding furniture to fit would be the issue. There should be wire rack adjustable storage built in. This would be a lot of work just to live in with all the transformation needed.

    This one is a slight improvement on the previous one! The shape is very peculiar, perhaps built on a corner plot? Hmm, any good points?
    1. Space for a shoe rack and maybe a potted plant, umbrella/coat stand near the door.
    2. The blue on the wall is nice and airy.
    3. The main window can let in a lot of natural light, a plus is this apartment is on the ground floor.
    4. No toilet paper storage! From having another look at the lavatory room, perhaps you can install some shelving overhead. At least this toilet has room for a tall person, with leg room and a window!
    5. Perhaps, with some creative planning, this apartment is a maybe? I am not sure!
    The piano music is lovely.

IF I had to make it work, I'd remove the doors from the laundry closet, putt them inside the closet beside the (front loading) washing machine, and set a small refrigerator on top of the washing machine, and on top of that a rack for toilet paper storage, and if the toilet walls are magnetic, a magnetic hook to put at least one roll of backup toilet paper.=-)

    If the toilet, shower and place for washer had been in the right corner, including the spare room for shoes, then the kitchenette could have been at the small window, giving more room for a bed at the far left corner.

    Usui-san, you are training all of your fans in how micro-apartments should--and should not--be designed. We would be happy to work with architects so that future apartments will be much better than this one! (What's with all those odd angles?)

    Awful space in this one, it's an off shape, but doesn't seem to really be very well set up for living in at all. Your current place is much nicer.

    No. There must be a hidden mezzanine - perhaps a secret lever somewhere? Like, it looks like a tiny cupboard for a tiny washing machine but its actually the entrance to the actual apartment where there is a desk and a bed! Maybe even a wardrobe!

    Maybe this one isn't very functional, but somehow i like it. Biggest problem is the missing space for a bed............................

      Honestly I'd like this one if there was bed space. Id put a mini refrigerator on top of the washer in the closet.

    I'm sorry that you haven't found a place that has what you need yet, but it's been quite entertaining to see the extent of how badly some of these building owners set-up small living spaces. A few show that they at least tried to make it livable, but most are just comically bad. Good luck!

    Usui San, the apartment is almost the same size as your current one, but it’s dark! 😢 I understand why the landlord has kept the wall blue to brighten it up. Without it the place would look gloomier. The only place bright in the flat is the toilet 🚽☀️😅

    Мне нравится Усуи, но мне не нравится квартира площадью 9 квадратов. У меня туалет больше. Все равно интересно смотреть. Часто Усуи радует нас либо гастрономическими впечатлениями, либо историей, либо красивыми местами. ❤

    Pikachu is so mad that someone could design a 9.5m space to be so completely useless. I am not sure that I would live here even if the rent was free.

    It's about $16.00 more than your current rent and it omits the space for sleeping. No TP storage shelf. It's a big NO-NO. I've named this flat the Bermuda Triangle as the space for a bed vanished. 🤪😂

    The space is no doubt smallest but there is one thing is positive, there is actually a decent toliet room, not openly next to kitchen😅.. Triangle layout is always harder to organise furniture but always curious about what can be done. Perhaps I would change the washing machine space to become a storage / closet or a a thinner fridge and actually install a mini washing machine below kitchen bench tap. Tatami and low table below windows as suggested is best here. Entertainment, may be a nice small tv mounted on the wall below air con, but people uses computer / laptop for entertainment these days.

    I don't think much at all about that apartment. It appears they cut up an older building to get more space to create cubby holes for people to live in. Whatever you do, don't move.

    It looks like the only thing you could fit in there is a recliner, which, by the way, is also your bed, work station, and dinner table.
    I have never in my life seen such an impractical arrangement of space.

    If I *had* to make this work I would build/assemble a wardrobe/open closet into the space you were thinking of puting a large shoe rack. Possibly negotiate with the landlord for a discount on the month's rent for improving the apartment by adding a closet space. Probably add a tension rack or shelving unit on of the top the washer to store detergent... and toilet paper!

    the blue color is very nice. The room is sunny, and in the summer it’s cooler to sleep on the floor 😊There's just no need for a closet or shelves😅
