I started driving my mini a few months ago. I’ve always ground driving every horse I’ve ever owned. This is the first time I’ve done cart work. So far we haven’t run into any issues. My Douglas has a great whoa. I’ve exposed him to dragging rails. I’ve also introduced the cart and he has had it follow him with me holding the shafts and him walking. I’ve been told by a driving coach to start driving him on roads and other areas to desensitize him. I’m taking him to other event so he can see carts zipping around. They are so smart. As you I’ve trained Douglas as if he’s 16hh. His only 29” lol love following your progress. Well done Buster ❤
barryhook2 knows everything there is to know about carriage driving. He's a trainer in the UK. He's got a youtube channel. Horse Drawn Productions. He introduces the horse to everything he possibly can, sights and sounds. Sign posts lines on the road before traffic. Sounds like you know what you're doing. Buster's sweet. I don't really understand the blinker thing, surely a sound you can't see is more likely to scare?
Looking forward to more videos on this. I’ve thought for many years about getting into wagons after a bad experience when I was young coming off a horse it just ruined my confidence and I’ve never been able to get passed it
Horses are good for the soul. I suggest you find a riding academy in your area and take some lessons from a qualified instructor. It will help you regain your confidence.
I am just starting my pony. She was really jumpy with the blinders so tomorrow she will try without and I'm gonna see if it helps.shes never been rode though either so getting used to the bit will be her first effort.
Do lots of desensitizing. Get her used to tarps, plastic bags, etc. Then ground drive her a lot until she is comfortable with the bit and turns and stops easily.

There are plenty of people that drive with an open bridle. There are others who say you have to have blinders. I think it is personal choice.

Try using a rub tire or something not to solid that could hit him and possibly hurt/cut/ bruise Buster. Hope this helps.
