Shae, .....I will share with you that there was a time in my life, that I trained, drove and showed a few of my own harness horses. I was better with driving then riding. If you still have Buzz in the fall, buy him a set of sleigh bells and take him out on country drives. You will be amazed how the horse/pony dials into the cadence/rhythm of the bells and your road adventure takes on a whole new level. Watching this video brought back a flood of happy memories. I'm old now, ... but if I ever won the lottery, and could afford a country cottage with a few acres, I would shop for a driving pony and take myself and my puppy out for a spin. I'm disabled handicapped, mostly homebound, but I could still sit my butt in a pony cart. Actually, it would make a good therapy program for disabled veterans and handicapped children/people. Need to buy that winning lottery ticket first! LOL😅 - ACD p.s. you, kyle and buzz looked grrrrreat!
that pony has *definitely* driven before (note: i commented this before i saw the part of the video where your friend confirmed that he was definitely broke to drive)! i spent about 8-10 months along side my instructor training a small handful of horses where i ride, some of whom had not driving background. the only ones we could put all the equipment on and hook up, right off the bat, were those who had driven before. those who had not driven before had to be slowly introduced to the cart congratulations on having effectively a "jack of all trades" pony!!!!
Looks like you hit the jackpot with that pony. Thanks for taking us along on this adventure. I've had horses for over 50 years but never ventured into the driving realm. You'll have SO much fun with Buzz.
He was probably wondering when he'd get to do that again. I'm sure it's harder on them when they change hands in a way where the new family doesn't know their past. I'm so glad you took him to find out!
congrats on buzz he such a gem of a pony but I don't know if u noticed but hes gone lame on one of his back legs. At the start when u went slow Mo his hock sliped he might have an old injury in his hip or something but just wanted to Let u know just incase u didn't see xx congrats hes and amazing pony xx
This is my first time meeting Mr Buzz. As a child, I always wanted a pony and cart. Buzz looks so handsome harnessed up and pulling the cart and both you and Kyle looked regal in the driver's seat! Thanks for sharing this special day with us!
You sure have a great pony Buzz he is so sweet, smart and responsive to his first time. I hope your husband will be happy to see what a great boy he is.
What a fun experience! He looks likes such a natural and responding so well. Such a nice add to his repertoire. This is what Free Spirit is about. Not just the horse/pony learning but what they can teach us ❤️
Shae Buzz handled that like a champ!!! You should be very proud of him!!! Not all riding ponies handle being hooked in harness!! But Buzz did great!!! So glad to see Kyle getting to drive him!!🐴💞😍
I think Buzz was a driving pony that took to saddle. 😃 Regardless, like you said Linda, Buzz did great and handled everything like a Champ!! 🥇 🐎 I can't wait to see more driving videos.
Wow!!!! Buzz is awesome!!! You really surprised me, not having ponies in your program…but he is so talented and sweet! I bet he has made some big friends🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I love the variety of activities in your channel! It was fun to learn about driving a cart and seeing Buzz a willing and able little pony. So cute!! You made a wise purchase with Buzz. 👏
What a fun day for you both. I would just have one word of caution (you can check with the man who sold you the cart). Always remove the cart first after you finish driving if the pony is used to wearing blinders as part of the harness. I once took off the bridle from my horse while she was still hitched to the cart with disastrous results. Like I say, you can check out this bit of advice with your friend to get another opinion. While Buzz apparently has been driven before, you do not know whether or not he was always wearing blinders. Good luck to Kyle with his driving.
This is the number 2 rule of safe driving. The #1 rule is have control of the reins at all times. If anything startled the equine during hitching or unhitching the reins are the only hope you have of preventing an animal bolting with the cart attached to him.
@@junebyrne4491 driving is much more dangerous than riding. You have less control and the damage done by a runaway harness horse attached to a cart can be considerable.
Thankyou shae for takeing us along with you to see if bud could drive I use to do driving I loved it the little pony I drove name was Chelsea bless her she is no longer with us
Good boy, Buzz, good boy! He stops when he's asked to, and when the cart keeps going and hits him in the rear he doesn't get upset, that's a very very good boy! Most horses, in harness or under saddle, would freak out when something runs into their hind end. Traffic on the road didn't bother him, either. That surprised me because those vehicles were pretty close and going at a good clip. The nice aspect of a four wheel cart is that it's more stable, resulting in a smoother ride for the passengers, and four contacts with the ground takes weight off the pony. Enjoy your new "hobby."
What a good boy! I’d take off the overcheck, though. It looks like he can’t drop his head level and lean into the breast collar for proper draft. This is why he seems to be struggling a bit, especially when starting up from a stop. But what a patient pony to be so kind dealing with that!
buzz is in pretty good shape I've seen so many overweight ponies and I just wanted to say whatever your doing with him to keep him in shape is working he looks a lot better from when you first got him
Awesome! Now you have a driving equine in your barn! Just a few suggestions. Dont use the overcheck on the harness. As you can see you cant drop his head. Also carry a driving whip. The whip takes place of a person's legs. One more suggestion, try a solid mouth piece bit.
Buzz is very comfortable in the carriage, i noticed that his harness was slipped on his back. Thats a bit dangerous because youre cart will touch hiss back legs. I am from Holland, its difficault to explain. I am driving with my 1.70m frisian horse 😊
So cool.. I loved watching buzz trot in the yard with you, it made me smile big time -ha ha. What a great video. All your training and hard work made him such a lovely pony⭐️
I’ve been taking cart lessons here with my mini Douglas. The certified coach here introduces the carts to them. But walking around with the cart. You lucked in that he didn’t freak out on you.
I just love seeing little buzz pulling the wagon, are you going to purchase a wagon & tack when you get back home ?? You should keep him up on that since he does so well. Maybe there is some class you could enter him & a student in. That would be so cool. Looking forward to seeing more videos .
I would love to be able to afford a pony or horse trained to drive. Buzz is so cute. Can't wait to see more of him. Kyle's doing really good. I like the color on him. That's a good color for him.
Waww Buzz Is such a good boy! I'm so impressed with both of you! Him already knowing how to drive and also starting to learn riding and you also learning how to drive that's soo cool! Thank you for that short education on the cart and Buzz lightyear. Buzz was so great for that first time to be hooked up and pulling the cart! That tells me that you guys are really relating in kindness and care to your charges. I love how you open your heart to horses at auctions but at the same time remember your obligations at present! Since you are actually a teacher at heart i applaud your valuable lessons you are passing on to the less experienced enthusiasts! God bless Kyle and You together!❤❤
Hey Shae, I have absolutely none, zero, experience with horses and less with driving them and the wagons! But it concerned me the way the wagon is build! The two bars on the side of Buzz looked frighteningly close to his head and shoulder and a few times it looked like it got stuck in the harness, and close to hit him on the shoulder. Again, I have no experience but just a concern that I needed to say out 'loud'. Though I'm an 'old' danish viewer I love watching you and your family! I mean it when I say you are Mother Theresa for horses (hope it makes sense in English)! What goes straight to my heart is, that you repeat many things through out the videos, which tells me that you know what you're talking about and that it comes from your heart and not your knowledge alone! It's difficult to explain exactly what I mean in a foreign language, but hopefully it makes sense! Lots of hugs from Denmark! 🇺🇲🫶🇩🇰
