This was so much fun to watch!!! I actually also read The Thursday Murder Club and The Sunbearer Trials back to back just like you, so I was really shocked to see you read them in that exact order for this video😂 They’re wildly different genres but truly there’s so much to enjoy about them both, and I really loved the deep dive you did on all the books you read. So glad you liked all your reads!!!
Please keep going with Thursday Murder Club series! They’re totally worth the hype and each one just gets better. His new one We Solve Murders is new series I’m excited to read it.
So glad you enjoyed Thursday Murder Club!!! Osman actually has a new book out this month called "We Solve Murders" (one I'm predicting will be 5⭐️) which is the first in a whole new series! I have mentioned it too many times, but now that I'm halfway through, I'm even more sure "Thirteenth Child" by Erin A. Craig will be a 5⭐️. But also, "Teller of Small Fortunes" by Julie Leong is looking to be a potential new favourite (tbd).
I also felt meh about Legends & Lattes, and it was my introduction to cosy fantasy. If you're thinking of trying more cosy mystery, and also giving cosy fantasy another chance, I have found my niche in combining the two! Would recommend the Weary Dragon Inn series by S. Usher Evans (amnesiac innkeeper solves local magical mysteries) and the Beaufort Scales books by Kim M. Watt (has more murder in it but also more comedy and the main characters are meddling elderly ladies and small dragons who like baked goods - there are also recipes in the back of each book)!
This channel has the best timing, Jesse. Your videos are honestly almost medicinal, pushing the fever and coldness away. Cozy, warm, vibey, like a blanket with a cup of steaming tea.☕❤ Just what the doctor ordered.
Given the cozy nature of your videos and your love of spooky season, I can see you really enjoying cozy mysteries! I feel like the main elements of a cozy mystery are: an amateur sleuth, the death of a person they don’t know well, lack of gore/descriptiveness of the murder, and some super cozy element like baking, knitting, or cats.
I'm so glad you enjoyed "The Sunbearer Trials!" I read it last year, gave it a 4.5, and then re-read it earlier this month in preparation for the sequel's release and bumped it up to a 5 because I caught so much more than I did on the first read. Teo is a great main because he's great, but we also get to see his flaws; he's judgmental, angers easily, reacts before he thinks, and yet he does have a good heart at his center and does start to see people differently. Also, Niya is the best friend everyone needs and she had me laughing throughout the entire book. I'm also happy you enjoyed "Can't Spell Treason Without Tea." It's definitely not a 5 star, but I do enjoy it because it's more...medium-stakes?...than high-stakes, so I'm less anxious. One of my 5 star predictions is "The Once and Future Witches" by Alix E. Harrow; I really enjoyed reading "Starling House" and "The Ten Thousand Doors of January" and rated them both at least 4 stars, so I've got some pretty big expectations for this one.
I just read The Sunbearer Trials this summer as well and I loved it so much, I’m obsessed with it and I want to read Celestial Monsters as soon as possible! Aiden Thomas is definitely an auto-buy author for me. I’m happy to hear you enjoyed it as well. :)
So this is random but I just wanted to let you know that you are one of the main booktubers who helped inspire me to create my fairly new booktube channel, your content is so fun and pleasing to watch, you seem like such a kind and amazing person, and I just love your personality, so I hope you know how great you are and how much of an inspiration you can be! 😊
Thank you for all the recs! Ohh! I googled and saw that the Sunbearer trials are inspired by Mexican culture, their bird Quetzal is amazing, and it is also half of their deity Quetzalcoatl which is a winged/feathered serpent which is also called the Daybringer and keeper of Dawn. I am quite intrigued by mexican and inkan culture so this makes me want to read that book even more and I saw that my local library has a copy available!
I'm reading A River Enchanted thanks to you! It's so good! I'm at 85 pages left and I'm wanting to see what happens but I don't want to be done reading... Buying the next one in the duology this weekend. I love your channel. ❤
So glad you enjoyed the Thursday murder club! I listened to the whole series and it was brilliant! I think I've rated them all 5 stars but I can't quite remember....😊
This video was so perfect for the situation I'm in right now! I read "Celestial Monsters" earlier this month and am so glad Jesse finally got around to reading "The Sunbearer Trials." One of my favorite series of all times! I am literally reading "Legends and Lattes" right now, and my sister is reading the "Robot and the Monk" books right now. We're doing our own little experiment with cozy fantasy to see if we are fans. Another great vlog from Jesse! 🧡
I haven’t read any of those books. Ive had my eye on Legends and Lattes for quite some time now and only ever heard people raving about it. I am interested to know more about your thoughts on that book. I should really get around to picking it up
If you loved the thursday murder club I feel like you would love Grave Expectations by Alice Bell. Its also a cozy murder mystery but solved by a young woman who‘s an involuntary medium and her ghost best friend who‘s haunting her. Its full of sarcasm and banter, so funny. I loved it so much!!!
Two books on my TBR that I think could be five stars are The Reappearance of Rachel Price by Holly Jackson and Five Survive by Holly Jackson. I loved the Good Girls Guide to Murder series and rated all of them five stars so I think these will be as well.
Hey Jesse I’m new to your channel I discovered your RUclips channel this year and since then I love your channel. Your content is so chill and relaxing I love your energy and your passion for books! Also your videos are saved me cuz i was in a huge book slump and i just didn’t want to read back then I was so worried that I would lose me and my beloved hobby I was scared to Wirte this But I felt like i needed to say that So huge thank you!☺️
The Thursday Murder Club is one of my favorite cozy mystery series, so I'm glad you enjoyed the first one!! Also, I am really excited that you are interested in cozy mysteries! Hope you enjoy exploring the cozy mystery genre!💚
So glad the Thursday Murder club was a 5 star for you! It’s been on my tbr for so long. As has Don’t Let the Forest In (also a 5⭐️ prediction)! My next read that I’m expecting to be a 5⭐️ is The First to Die at the End, which I’m buddy reading with a friend.
Can't Spell Treason Without Tea has been on my radar and your description does make me want to read it even more, I think it might be a 4-5 star for me. One that is currently on my TBR that I think will be a 5 star is The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I'm hoping to read it by the end of the year.
Omg as a Percy fan, have you read the new books about his senior year? Basically they are trials to get into college but not sure if there is a big bad yet. The 2nd book in that series just came out this week!
People trying to pronounce my name is gold to me😂 I feel so honoured to be featured❤ I love your videos and honestly, I was smiling from ear to ear when I saw that my submission was there
if it helps you feel less alone, i only mildly enjoyed legends and lattes! felt like a little bit of a slog to me, I think I just felt like i was reading a contemporary with a fantasy skin! Fantasy and being relaxed are two of my favourite things so i was kind of shocked! I loved Half a Soul though, so i think maybe i just wanted some more casual magic use!
In a video I have coming in a few weeks I ended up unhauling the first Montague Twins book, but I'm excited to hear your thoughts whenever you get to it!
i've been putting off reading the thursday murder club because i KNOW i'm gonna fall in love with it and binge the whole series, and i have a tbr i need to check more off of first, buuuuut.. i think this was my sign to just read it
Honestly I want to read Thursday Murder Club because it looks really cosy and I like mysteries But also because the hint it was given in the 2021 Caboodle Hidden Book Challenge was great
If you would like to try a cozy mystery I can recommend Family Skeleton Mystery by Leigh Perry. It is perfect for this season 💀 I have heard cozy mystery people say that Thursday Murder Club is not a “true” cozy mystery. I am not sure what the criteria are. But since you liked it, I think you will enjoy cozies!
I was surprised by how much I loved The Thursday Murder Club--and the second book is even better, IMO! I'm looking forward to finishing the series, but it's also one I'm already dreading being done with, if you get what I mean. They are the BEST characters. 🥰
Jesse loving Taskmaster has made my day. It’s the best. I’d love a video on books to represent taskmaster series/ contestants, or something like that! I started reading TMC and liked it but my loan ran out - this video encouraged me to check it out again! If you’ve not read it already, I really recommend Anxious People - it has similar vibes I think and it’s one of my all time favourites!
Speaking of old people solving murders, you should try Vera Wong's unsolicited advice for murderers by Jesse Q Sutanto. There is also another one in the making BUT the first one is a standalone.
Even as someone who had Legends and Lattes as a five star, definitely don't think you're alone in not liking it! I've seen other reviewers say the same. No one can love every book. Can't Spell Treason (one I'm about a third through) is definitely written with a slightly different vibe. It's got a lot more dialogue in it, a lot more plot, and I think was slightly more focused on the characters than the journey. So far I don't think Treason is going to be a five star for me like L&L, but it'll be a four star for sure. For five stars predictions, my three five stars of the year so far are Second Chances in New Port Stephen by TJ Alexander, Belladonna by Adalyn Grace, and In Deeper Waters by FT Lukens. I definitely recommend them all
I know one of my other fave booktubers (NewlyNova) gave it 3, and as someone who also loved it, I think it's just a solid example that no book is for every reader because no book is going to appeal to everyone's tastes.
I just realized my comment got deleted for some reason but I'm so glad you picked my book! Speaking of pirates I hope you continue with the series, the second is slated to come out before the end of the year and it has pirates ! Love the video Jesse and I look forward to the next one , much love from canada ♥️
The Thursday Murder Club series is acutally better with every book. The latest is insanely good. If you liked the first one, do yourself a favor and read all of them.
I didn’t like Legends and Lattes either, I was really bored. That’s why I loved Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea (5 stars, favorite book of 2023), it was cozy but also had action, lovable characters, and a good plot. It’s gonna be a trilogy, the second book is out on Kindle now and I think will be out in paperback in October (A Pirate’s Life for Tea).
terribly late to the party but my five star prediction i would've recommended is unlikely animals by annie hartnett!!! one of my absolute all time favorite books ever and i wish it gained more attention i just adored it so much. a great mix of humor and heavy subject matter and a very witty writing style!!
Don't worry, I didn't particularly enjoy Legends and Lattes either. I felt really lukewarm about it so I ended up at 3 star-rating. And recently I've read the prequel Bookshops and Bone Dust, and once again lukewarm. I really like all the characters but I think I don't vibe with the writing somehow, cause I have to force myself into reading the book.
I DNFed can't spell treason without tea and I was so sad about it but I just could not get into it at all :( I also just DNFed Celestial Monsters, but I feel like that's just cause I'm not in a YA mood so hoping I can come back to it later!
I've definitely seen other people not like Legends & Lattes, so you're not alone. I did really enjoy it, but, ignoring the whole mess that was the Hugos that year, I was actually glad it didn't win best novel.
Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea didn’t work for me, It just didn’t make me feel anything so I dnfed it. I also didn’t feel like it was cozy 😂 but I think a lot of people just mean there’s not a fast paced plot when they say cozy which to me is just not the same as like Legends & Lattes cozy
I have a book buying ban this year too but thank you for justifying it because I’ve been breaking it left and right and almost convinced myself to make a channel to justify why I broke it so many times
Yesterday I finished my first MM romance. Although the courtship scenes are cringe, the sex scenes written by male authors are done with taste and you can enjoy them.
I can't wait until Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins is going to be a 5 star book you know a book is going to be good when it's not even out and there all ready going to be a movie made about it and Hunger Games fan i been waiting for a book about a other Victor and it will be interesting see what the Games are like before Katinss Games
I tried reading The Thursday Murder Club but I was so bored. I have been wanting to go back to Can't Spell Treason Without Tea but I was not loving the main character.
I didn't like Legends and Lattes that much either! I felt like it was just a bit too cutesy and wholesome, it was so low stakes that it just didn't really keep my attention and I wasn't really invested in the story. And the fantasy elements were also so low key that it's hardly fantasy. I also didn't like the writing much, it was needlessly pompous and purple. I called it a Hallmark movie set in a fantasy universe, which is exactly what some people are looking for, but I'm not a huge fan of such stories. Also, the 'ooh, this thing is like something in the real world, but this is FANTASY, so it's DIFFERENT, get it? Get it?' got kind of on my nerves. So, you're not alone in not liking it! I did read Bookshops and Bonedust and liked it a bit more; a little less cutesy, and the writing definitely improved.
IMO L&L is overrated and if you go into it after all the 5 star reviews, it's very hard to lower your expectations. You may like more adventure in your cozy fantasy, less slice of life 😅 which I think is totally possible like BLADE OF SECRETS
i just love the way jesse matches his outfits with the books, it's so pleasant to the eye✨ we love aesthetic ✨
I didn’t notice!
Yay! I'm so excited you found two 5 stars! I have so much trouble finding a 5 star, so I'm celebrating with you!🎉
This was so much fun to watch!!! The way I see it, if my five star prediction rates a four or better, it's a win.
I also felt meh about Legends & Lattes, and it was my introduction to cosy fantasy. I also didn't vibe with the book. But T J Klune writes the best cozy fantasies
This channel has the best timing, Jesse. Your videos are honestly almost medicinal, pushing the fever and coldness away. Cozy, warm, vibey, like a blanket with a cup of steaming tea.☕❤ Just what the doctor ordered.
I agree
The Raven Boys is on my TBR and I think and hope it‘s gonna be a five star start to the series for me 😊
Given the cozy nature of your videos and your love of spooky season, I can see you really enjoying cozy mysteries! You should read the skullduggery Pleasant series by Derek landy I love this book series btw love your videos
The Sunbearer Trials has been on my radar for a while i didnt know it was from the author of Cemetary Boys i adoree that book
I think the Thursday Murder Club mysteries get better as they go. I loved the last one and can’t wait for the movie to come out.

The Thursday Murder Club is one of my favorite cozy mystery series, so I'm glad you enjoyed the first one!!
Also, I am really excited that you are interested in cozy mysteries! Hope you enjoy exploring the cozy mystery genre!💚
Cozy Mystery? I've been reading the Noodle Shop Mystery series by Vivien Chien for some time and loved most of the series.
Oh my god! Only my favourite series in the whole wide world: the Thursday Murder Club! 🎉
I loved it! 🥰
Thank you for the video❤
We often have overlapping taste but in this case I have dnfed two of the ones in this video 🙈 but I’m glad they all worked for you!
Can't Spell Treason Without Tea has been on my radar and your description does make me want to read it even more, I think it might be a 4-5 star for me. One that is currently on my TBR that I think will be a 5 star is The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I'm hoping to read it by the end of the year.

i've been putting off reading the thursday murder club because i KNOW i'm gonna fall in love with it and binge the whole series, and i have a tbr i need to check more off of first, buuuuut.. i think this was my sign to just read it
Ready to add these to my tbr 🔥
Honestly I want to read Thursday Murder Club because it looks really cosy and I like mysteries
But also because the hint it was given in the 2021 Caboodle Hidden Book Challenge was great
If you would like to try a cozy mystery I can recommend Family Skeleton Mystery by Leigh Perry. Haven’t read any of these three, but now I want to read The Sun-bearer Trials!
Jesse I need to know where you got that s'more sitting on your bookshelf? It's so cute.
If you like older character driven murder/ suspense series, you MUST read Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn!
I know one of my other fave booktubers (NewlyNova) gave it 3, and as someone who also loved it, I think it's just a solid example that no book is for every reader because no book is going to appeal to everyone's tastes.
@@icygubler oh yeah I love NewlyNova! But for sure, you're absolutely right
So happy you gave the Thursday Murder Club 5 stars. I loved the book!
I just realized my comment got deleted for some reason but I'm so glad you picked my book! I actually haven't finished the book yet, it got bumped down my tbr because I got started with my spooky fall reads. I'm excited to get into it now, I think after your review I will be going into it in the mentality I would an adventure book as opposed to a cozy fantasy. Like for example treasure island by Robert Louis Stevenson or pirate latitudes by Michael Crichton. Speaking of pirates I hope you continue with the series, the second is slated to come out before the end of the year and it has pirates ! Love the video Jesse and I look forward to the next one , much love from canada ♥️
You should definitely keep reading Thursday Murder Club, they get better with each one! The most recent made me cry
The Thursday Murder Club series is acutally better with every book. The latest is insanely good. If you liked the first one, do yourself a favor and read all of them.
That makes me happy! Excited to get to them.
I love seeing the old Nancy drew and hardy boys!!
Did you hear about Aidan Thomas writing a second Cemetery Boys book?
So far all my 5 star predictions have not lived up to my own hype😔
I will read absolutely anything Richard Osman writes... His new book is another winner (We Solve Murders)
The books most likely to be 5 stars on my TBR are 1) The Tainted Cup, 2) The Goblin Emperor and 3) The Will of the Many.
I'm planning on reading 'Someone You Can Build A Nest In' by John Wiswell in October and really hoping that it will be a 5-star for me.
I'm surprised you liked Can't spell Treason without Tea, good for you!
I recently picked up Death at Morning House by Maureen Johnson, and I believe that will be a five stars because I love the Truly Devious series.
terribly late to the party but my five star prediction i would've recommended is unlikely animals by annie hartnett!!! one of my absolute all time favorite books ever and i wish it gained more attention i just adored it so much. a great mix of humor and heavy subject matter and a very witty writing style!!
I still need to read Can’t Spell Treason without Tea but I started The Black Bird Oracle and I think it’ll be a five star.
I think something wrong with me because I reaaaaaaally did not like Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea😅 but absolutely LOVED Legends & Lattes haha
I DNFed can't spell treason without tea and I was so sad about it but I just could not get into it at all :( I also just DNFed Celestial Monsters, but I feel like that's just cause I'm not in a YA mood so hoping I can come back to it later!

I did really enjoy it, but, ignoring the whole mess that was the Hugos that year, I was actually glad it didn't win best novel.
Midnight Treasure by Piers Torbay, best book I have read this year
Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea didn’t work for me, It just didn’t make me feel anything so I dnfed it. I also didn’t feel like it was cozy 😂 but I think a lot of people just mean there’s not a fast paced plot when they say cozy which to me is just not the same as like Legends & Lattes cozy

Yesterday I finished my first MM romance. Although the courtship scenes are cringe, the sex scenes written by male authors are done with taste and you can enjoy them.
Which one??
@@Rash23215 Bro and the beast by LC Davis

I loved legends and lattes and was disappointed with can't spell treason without tea tbh
If you liked Thursday Murder Club I'd try Everyone in my family has killed someone by Benjamin Stevenson.
I tried reading The Thursday Murder Club but I was so bored. I have been wanting to go back to Can't Spell Treason Without Tea but I was not loving the main character.
Ive been in such a mood for mysteries but i dont know of any
Thursday murder club series is so good
I didn't like Legends and Lattes that much either!
Monsters born and Made iwas a reqlly great competitionesque style book i read a while ago i cant remember the authors name
The taskmaster is the same person in every season, the winner of a season doesnt become the taskmaster im pretty sure
IMO L&L is overrated and if you go into it after all the 5 star reviews, it's very hard to lower your expectations. You may like more adventure in your cozy fantasy, less slice of life 😅 which I think is totally possible like BLADE OF SECRETS
