I am Brazilian, but I have to say, Fanning is a great guy, example of personality, and how a person must behave, congratulations Fanning, Medina and Adriano you are all champions.
Agreed, this a contest for barrels not airs . Plus Micks 2 barrels were pretty unreal!

In Trestles step judges devalued air and I did not see anyone complaining . Both trestles , as in bells judges too increased fanning notes.

Not a Fan of airs over scored in a barrel contest. That said Medina is a great surfer as is Fanning. How they dealt with the win and a loss is a testament to the solid characters we have heading up our sport. Maturity in defeat and victory from both.

Earlier in the event it might have gotten a 3 or 4. I thought 4 or 5. No matter, its a year long event and having it come down to the final heats was still "as pottz was saying" nail biting chicken skin heart attacks.

+Kameron Were Your comment are right on point...And, I too respect both surfers, a lot. But, how can the judges score "a good air" so high?, And let's be fair, it was not a "great air", it was solid.... I've seen Medina do much better and cleaner airs (he's that frigging good). It was too high of a score IMO, especially for THAT CONTEST - AKA PIPELINE, specifically in that scenario with Mick as current #1. It did not compute for me on any level. Frankly, I'm betting Medina feels the same way in hindsight...It was a scenario where you have the WSL leading points guy, holding priority, awaiting a barrel, in the most prestigious barrel contest. Hey.. and kudos to Medina for not dying on the vine waiting, (the waves were shitty) and he was likely doomed in the barrel department, because mother nature was unlikely to deliver anything with point potential. But, even with his effort, I just did not see the score (as a fan, I wanted more progression if it was going to be an air that topped him)... Winning pipeline with a trick, is not the way it should happen unless I'm left with my jaw on the ground.... Finally, it was a crappy final day all around per the conditions.... Perhaps KP should have managed the heats better (earlier on) to get the finals run during during peak conditions.? Just saying.. Crappy way to end the year. #rantover

Let`s recap..21 years age . Already in the bag , two Fiji finals and one win. Teahupoo two back to back finals and a win , World Title at 20 and to top all a Triple crown title . And still some people out there refusing to admit how good ,,,better yet how special this kid is. Guys Medina will make history , is his faith and he keeps getting better .
People don`t even mention that winning this heat , Gabriel won the Triple Crown . This is a major title almost as important as the CT. He is the champ of Hawaii , it is a great achievement .

Wow that single manoeuvre air by Medina was hella' over-scored. I mean props to the guy just based on how hard he was getting after it but based on that messy air I can't say he deserved the score.

It was a barrel contest. They weren't surfing some crap beach break in Brazil. Medina was overscored. He didn't even pull it off clean. I guess all you have to do is claim a crap wave to get the score you need.

I thought Medina was surfing to win. Mick wasn't really going after it. He got that sick first wave then kind of just stopped after that. Medina was charging and going after everything. Wanted Mick but Medina took that one

it wasn't that good an air really, the wave was small, the ramp was pretty soft and he bogged the landing... a 5 and a bit maybe... and micks second barrel was worth more than a 3... and i'm not even a fan of micks surfing, but this seems dubious at best
