      In myth, yeah, but in the comics, she actually was a sister originally. Later the retconned it to some strange mumbo jumbo where Loki accidentally wrote her into existence with a magic pen...Here it looks like they combined Hela with Angela, which is cool in my book :)

      Thor Ragnarok (How I'm reacting just home from the theater): Trying waaaayyyy to hard to be funny, and fails most of the time. Also, Thor in the other movies was an Asgardian, and the way he held himself, the way he spoke, even the comedy he was a part of reflected that. He was far too human in this movie. Lastly, if I didn't grow up in the 80's, and don't really give a shit, why would I care about the 80's set design?

    • @bladenight23
      @bladenight23 6 лет назад +11

      Oscar McCormack Uhh, I just gave a general consensus on the Thor movies. If you want to vent and complain about your problems about the movie, why are you on this thread and not in a chat room of other people who hated the movie? There's probably dozens of DC or anti Marvel websites that will welcome you bro. Seems really weird.

      Because I don't associate with echo chambers, and specifically anti-Marvel groups, who seem to tire away, day and night, looking for criticisms to pull out of their asses. I love Marvel, but this movie was a pretty big dissapointment, at least to me. I'm probably alone in thinking this though.

      That's not a Willy Wonka tunnel scene. The part where Thor is in the chair and traveling in the "light tunnel" learning about where he is and stuff, it was a reference to the Epcot Theme Park. Also, yes Cate Blanchett is a total smoke show. I've thought she was hot since seeing her in Lord of the Rings, but really even in Oscar and Lucinda she is as well, especially since she has her natural brunette hair colour. Anyway, she is a great actress and dominated every scene she was in.

    What I like about the Marvel movies is that the heroes tend to have an atmosphere about their world that matches them. Like Ant Man has this silly energetic world, The Guardians live in a world where everyone is at least kind of a jerk, everyone around Captain America is really patriotic. Maybe I'm not using the perfect words to describe it, but it makes the movies all have a unique taste to them.

      2008, 2012, 2014 and 2017 are the most important years in comic book movie history.
      2008 we had the Dark Knight, arguably the best comic book movie in existance, and then Iron man, the kickstarter of it all
      2012 we had Avengers, consolidating the MCU and shaking Hollywood to its very core
      2014 we had Winter Soldier and Guardians, two of the most important MCU movies as they would become the mold and base for future MCU movies such as Ragnarok, Civil War, etc. Some fans and critics even considering these improving on the originals
      2017 the prodigal child came back home. Adding to that a worthy sequel to Guardians, a good introduction to wonder woman, then Marvel turning on its head its weakest link with arguably its most enjoyable movie to date, Ragnarok. And it doesnt even matter whether JL sucks or not. If it doesnt suck in the end, fucking fantastic. If it does suck, Marvel, with its weakest movie asset, might beat DC strongest most hyped movie asset, making DC step up its game.

      Norse stories are our stories and taking characters for "diversitys" sake is bullcrap because it would never happen with Black Panther or any coloured character. Valkyrie, google valkyrie and show me the mulatto sassy shield maiden will ya? Diversity only works if its not at the expense of others, I don't want to see characters who are based off a racially charged mythology and symbol the pride of a groups past be changed like that.

    • @Tamaki742
      @Tamaki742 6 лет назад +7

      Captain Canuck Well, in the movie, you won't even care how diverse it is. It's diversity done right, you think this character so badass you don't even care she's black. Besides, Marvel Thor is never supposed to follow the Norse myth, or you'll see Odin riding Fenrir and Loki having an eight legged horse as a son. You wanna know the example of failed attempt at diversity? Fan4stic.

    Problem with Marvel: Inconsistent humor in moments that are supposed to be taken seriously.
    Problem with DC: Inconsistent darkness in moments that are not supposed to be taken seriously.
    Problem with Marvel: Forgettable music (score only) that fits the film well.
    Problem with DC: Amazing music that does not fit the film.
    Problem with Marvel: Directors are not given much creative control to make a truly spectacular movie (Edgar Wright with Ant Man)

    Very entertaining film. Saying goodbye to Skarsgard, Dennings and Portman was the best thing they could have ever done. A Thor that's actually kind of smart, has learned a lot (that's why he doesn't speak Shakespeare now) the best Hulk in a film ever that actually does things and has a personality beyond smashing and a drunk Valkyrie (who is NOT Brunnhilde, she's just a random Valkyrie, so trailer haters can shut up now), just perfect. A movie that is a mash up of Planet Hulk and Ragnarok could have easily been too grimdark so the comedy was definitely needed.

    • @magnusprime962
      @magnusprime962 6 лет назад

      True, but personally I think they overdid it. Every time something dramatic happens it's immediately undercut by a joke. I've nothing against comedies, and I do love the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but it feels like this one was so focused on comedy that things like Odin's death and the destruction of Asgard didn't carry the weight they should have.

    • @naingmon
      @naingmon 6 лет назад +1

      Magnus Prime Thor gaining his power, both of his conversations with Odin, Hela crushing Mjölnir, the Valkyries against Hela, just to name a few. They weren’t undercut by jokes - sure, Hulk’s transformation was undercut by a joke; but how exactly would they have done it? In the Incredible Hulk he smashed right through the ground, that’s not going to work with the Bifrost bridge, transforming in mid air would be a bit strange, as well as raising questions as to why it didn’t happen before Bruce’s fight against the Abomination, and cutting away wouldn’t really work - it’s lazy, and would just seem odd.
      Asgard’s destruction is a fair critique though, and his opening fight with Surtur - however, the latter still had intense action and wasn’t a comedic scene in its entirety - only the conversation was comedic.
      I don’t think the comedy took away from the drama and intensity all that much, and the film was still great. There’s probably a good few more I’m forgetting, but that goes for both sides.

    Hands down, i think my favourite shot in the movie is when Loki, Valkyrie and the Grandmaster are walking down a hallway, and the camera pans down to tgeir reflection on the floor, flips upside down and ends up behind them. It was SO expertly handle and well done. It just goes to show what a great director Watiti is when a movie with Thor vs Hulk, Hela, and Surtur, that a shot of three characters walking down a hall is the standout

  • @maryweaver5021

    the only joke i had an issue with was the one made when Asgard was distroyed. I think they should have let that be a serious moment and not ruin the atmosphere with it and then cut back to the people morning as if we are still supposed to be in the mood to feel their pain anymore.

      I'm not a hater, but when you consider that the whole of Asgard was destroyed. You would expect that to be taken seriously rather than for laughs. I think those people are saying what is happening in the plot is inconsistent with the comedic tone.

      mini2239 come to think of it, the movie is full serious things that are overlooked for comedy sake. Banner's identity crisis, Valkyrie's PTSD and subsequent alcoholism, the death of Oden, the destruction of Asgard, Hela and Oden's messed up father-daughter relationship, Oden's villainous past, the whole gladiator/abduction thing... that's a lot for something that's not even a dark comedy.

    Thor 1 - A interesting change of pace at the time, expands the MCU setting pretty suddenly, and had a charismatic but vulnerable villain, but a bit forgettable overall.
    Thor 2 - An OK sequel and carries on with the Thor/Loki interplay, but clearly hobbled by conflicting scripting and story ideas splurged together, with another villain getting underused.
    Thor 3 - Wow, a culmination of what was good about the previous Thor movies and filters out the dead weight. Age of Ultron retroactively gets more interesting.

    To the people complaining that the film is to comedic; would it really be better if it was dark? A film with Thor, (who has been a comedic roll since the first Avengers) Loki, Hulk and crazy space worlds? Are freaking COMIC BOOK MOVIES only supposed to be like the dark knight? I think you're looking in the wrong places

    • @HalfDemonInuyasha
      @HalfDemonInuyasha 6 лет назад +24

    • @karlpersson9102
      @karlpersson9102 6 лет назад +5

      HalfDemonInuyasha Facts bro, there is surely plenty of angst to be had in Infinity Wars like Doug said. Are people as fans of comic book movies really buying a ticket to a Thor movie expecting something other than what they got? Do they honestly think that the source material lends itself more to gritty drama than goofy space action? Like you said dude, some people will never accept that Thor as a concept will always be silly.

    • @karlpersson9102
      @karlpersson9102 6 лет назад +6

      michiel If you genuinely thought that the film was shitty then that's totally cool dude. At least you look at it as a comedy that failed to entertain rather than comparing it to an imaginary "dark & gritty" Thor like some people. My point was that this movie is inherently impossible to take seriously so comedy is the logical lane to take. If it's actually funny is entirely subjective after that point.

    • @Angelo321luna
