Fantastic video! I wasn't diagnosed until just after my son was when he was a toddler. I found out by studying autism so I could better understand him and what I needed to do. As I studied it became apparent that I was studying myself and that was one of the most profound moments of my life. That answered 1000 questions especially why I felt out of place and time on an alien world in another universe. I was about 36 at that time. I'm around 50 now and over a lifetime have learned to "be typical" when interacting with them as exhausting as it is although if I spend enough time with one there will be an eventual blank expression or raised eyebrow on their part. So yeah "you don't look or act autistic" is my favorite... That's especially grand for those on disability that can mow their lawn, wash their car, remodel their house, build and repair computers and electronics, etc; especially when it's something they can't do. Hey neighbor, just because I can kindly come over when your furnace broke in the middle of winter and without ever touching one before, pull the circuit board, identify the problem, grab my soldering iron, perform a board level repair on it, reinstall it, restore your heat, save you $500 on a new board and labor, and not letting you freeze for a week while waiting for a repair person and parts doesn't mean I can do that 40+ a week every week without ending up in a straight jacket locked in a facility or worse. So don't ever tell me that I don't look autistic and "should be able to....". /rant-over
Hey doc, one on autisic burnout and shutdown would be a good one(s). Especially shutdown when confronted, cornered, focused on, verbally pressured for an answer to a question. People would do that to me, I'd shutdown being completely unable to respond then they would become enraged and throw a tantrum of their own making it much worse. People need to know that autistic shutdown isn't a power contest that they need to win.
