Just imagine how quickly his art would be removed if he was outed as a conservative instead!

It’s one thing to refrain from destroying art because of the sins of the artist. It’s another to display it incessantly while the victims of the person’s sin are still alive and their grievances unaddressed. Every time they pick one of his pieces to use, it’s a slap in the face of his victims. Why can’t they see this?!

There were talented artists who contributed to the schools of Soviet Realism, Italian Fascism or National Socialism in Germany. But the regimes they served were so odious, their art lost any ethical value. Ditto that of Marko Rupnik.

That the art was used in the abuse negates any possible value. It is like this man is allowed to refit from his crimes & compounded by the fact that this art should bring glory to God. At least cover it and remove it from websites during the trial.

You are absolutely correct, Dr. Lev - there are more Catholic artists than Rupnik. I’m a Catholic and I’ve been in business 30 years. Give me the opportunity!

The exposure of his crimes is God’s judgment on his strange and disturbing “art”. Well before this scandal, I was in Lourdes, and was so disappointed by the mosaics they had put on the exterior of the Rosary church (at that time I hadn’t heard the name Rupnik)-so ugly and so inferior to the beautiful traditional mosaics within the church.

It does not belong in a sacred place if the accusations are true…mr rupnik himself should acknowledge that

No, dears, it is not impossible. This is the current game -- keep the debate going on, any which way, that is what this synodal way is about (JUST MORE INTENSIVE AND EXTENSIVE DEBATE), and thus create the space to do behind the scenes what they want to do, keep the scoundrels doing what they intend to do. This is a trend of the power wielders worldwide. The victims never mattered bcoz the pleasure hungry will take their pleasure any which way. It is the case here in India too.

By saying, " at least it wasn't minors "! It condines what Rupnic actually did as being not as bad.
This is in istself is a Mortal Sin according to The Cathechism of The Catholic Church.
In fact if you condine a sin/sins you take those sin/sins onto your own soul and must seek forgiveness not only for condoning the sin/sins, but also the sin/sins themselves even though someone else committed them.
In others words you become an assessory to the sins you condone.
The correct thing to do is condem the sin/sins as being sinful. He tried to get out of the trap of using Rupnics art even though there are allegations against him and a pending trial. So he is caught in the snare of his own deceit and has now put his own soul in grave danger.

While I agree with the position that the artist's work should be separate from the artist's life (Caravaggio, Wagner, one could go on and on) the art itself must be of substance. So much of modern religious art is, frankly, banal, if not just outright ugly. And it would be so aside from any sanctity or diabolic nature of the individual artist himself. There is a mediocrity about Rupnik's oeuvre which must be dealt with. Too much of his work is in the category of comparing the actual Taj Mahal with one made out of Lego.

Well the man might stink morally-speaking, but we are all sinners needing the grace of God. As for his art, it is not that bad. If you want to see bad art in church, go to almost any RC church in Canada. There you will find really bad art such as gaudy felt banners, Jesus doing a resurrection jump, uncovered BVM, etc. Also lots of sick looking plants and plastic flowers on one side of the altar table and two candles on the other. However even here we do have a few treasures still standing such as the original shrine of St. Anne in Beaupré or Notre Dame in old Montreal. If you want a beautiful mosaic or an icon, you might have to go East, young man. I know of a priest's wife (Byzantine rite) who makes wonderful mosaics and does not charge a lot.

So sick of the Vatican. I think Vigano is right about our Pope. Something is wrong with his papacy.

Currently, it is only those of the Clergy with a propensity for “frociaggine” who are out of favour with His Holiness. Those inclined in the other direction are much in favour at present. This, I think, accounts for Rupnik’s popularity with His Holiness.
