Comfortably Numb Guitar Solo Lesson - Frist (Middle) Solo
Well, it's been a while, but I've been asked many times to make a tutorial for David Gilmour's first solo in Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. We're also going to a harmonic analysis of the solo and find out why so many people have an emotional connection with it. This solo leans heavily into chord tones and triads, which is one of the reasons why it sounds so melodic and why each note seems to have meaning.
If you want to learn the outro solo, my tutorial has had hundreds of thousands of views. You can find it on my channel.

Oh Bobby, I didn't know you could be hilarious like that. ahahah Great introduction to this video. And thank you so much for completing what you started 5 years ago with the Outro of this magnificent solo. I heard about you at that very moment and discovered a GREAT Guitarist, a really nice person and one of the most interesting RUclipsrs to follow when it comes to guitar.
Thank you very much, Laurent! There's more to come...
You are doing it too fast and slow at same time!!! LOL! that intro bro was hilarious. the gremlin guitar teacher, lol. Very funny.
Thank you Bobby. 🇨🇦
@@jamiemay6065 Thanks, Jamie!
That tone is spot on man 🤘🎸
Pink floyd Fans can be hard to deal with sometimes
Thank you very much!
Thank you Bobby, what a great lesson, bless you!!!!
Thanks very much!
@@BobbyHarrisonGuitar I have to thank you
Bobby where have you been last time i met you was Birmingham symphony hall with Brit Floyd i was gutted when you left you and Damian together were a perfect combination i thank you once again for the advice you gave me then to improve my playing also love the fact that you use proper valve amps as well axe FX ok but i find harsh on the ears and alittle tinny sounding but ican understand how much easier it is to use when touring anyway enough rambling welcome back.
Really nicely explained Bobby, particularly like the the underlying musicality of sweeping in rather than a rake, thank you.
Thank you very much!
Wow Bobby another go at it!!! Heck ya !!! Thank you!!!
Commenting for the algorithms, and the disbelief that no one mentioned your hair 😁😉 (don't punch me!)
Great lesson on a stone called classic 👍
Ha ha!
Dude! When ever I'm not quite getting a solo from other tutorials. I always check to see if you have anything on it and you never fail!
Thanks very much!
I been.learnong from you great job
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks
Cheers. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Fantastic, I saw you a few years ago doing an awesome solo in Fat Old Sun, if you ever get the chance...! But I realise how long it can take to make these videos. They are really appreciated.
I would like very, very much for you to teach the solo of "Where we start" live at the royal albert hall...its a superb song. Thanks
Great suggestion!
@@BobbyHarrisonGuitar thank you. I love that song of David Gilmour and that sound of the gretch guitar
Just the pulse add on tutorial to finish the job…please!!!🙏🏻
Finally, you made a video of the first solo! Loved your lesson on the second solo!
Hey, thanks!
Great video !!!
Thank you very much!
I love this song my dear friend! Thank you a bunch!
Thank you too
Worth the wait Bobby ! Thank you 🙏🏻
Thank you very much!
Those comments reactions. 🤣🤣🤣 I don't like your trousers !? Lmao
Thankfully, nobody actually said that, but you wouldn’t believe the amount of vitriol that’s been slung my way in the name of music.
@BobbyHarrisonGuitar I love the channel my friend. I understand as I've had a few negatives and nothing short of just pure egotistical souls with nothing better to do lol
Exactly. Bonkers, isn’t it?
🎸Merci!
Oh wow! Thank you so much, Laurent!
Thanks Bobby, your Gilmour lessons have always been very good, as is this one. Wouldn't mind seeing you do a play though of the fletcher memorial home solo if you ever get time, I know Gilmour was fairly uninterested at this point the emotion he manages to put into that one really hits the spot, Cheers.
Ho avuto il piacere di vederlo suonare con i Brit Floyd assolutamente strepitoso. 🎶🎸🎵
Great work - I like your trousers in particular 😂👍🏻🤘
I Don't Like The Colour of Your Trousers is the album that Ian Dury & the Blockheads sadly never made. It would have been followed up by Your Playing It Wrong (Sp. intentional) and I can hear Norman Watt-Roy playing a Cissy Strut-type bass line as I type this!! 🤣🤣
Always love takes on this iconic solo. Listening to it a gazillion times as most of us have, I get the sense that this is played by Mr Gilmour's emotions as much as his guitar. Apart from the notes, which the Pink Floyd Police often get so worked up about, (Ask to see their badge and their heads explode 🤣) it's the playing with time that is such a part of this solo, at least that's how I hear it. The 'sad' notes/phrases often, but not always, feel like they're just very slightly behind time and the happier notes/phrases sound right on the 'dot' . I'd love to know if this is a kind of expressive technique because I'm sure I hear this quite a lot in the solos that we all love.
Anyway Bobby, keep practicing and once you get the hang of it and therefore the approval of the Pink Floyd Police you might just be good enough to start having a career! 🤣🤣🤣.
Thanks for the education Bobby, it's people like you that keep people like me coming back to YT! :)

Sorry should of added axe fx Brit Floyd use now
Nice! Is that a Vega trem?
It’s actually a Gotoh, but I’ve been looking for an excuse to get a Vega Trem for ages. Haven’t tried one yet. Have you?
@@BobbyHarrisonGuitar yeah, I just got one 3 weeks ago. Great! But make sure you try one on a guitar before, because its so dynamic, just the slightest touch does a lot. But the tuning stability is great. You can go up and down and even do those Floyd things when you hit the trem and get that fast Vai/Satriani thing.
@@alguitarchristie Brilliant! I'm left handed (I flip my videos), but I think they make lefty models. I just need to decide which guitar to fit one to.
I really don't think you need worry about what people think from behind their keyboards. You've nothing to prove. Those few bars are as good as any I've heard. I've heard a lot. It's one thing to be able to play something you've written yourself and play it yourself, in your own distinct style; being able to mirror someone else's takes a whole new level of skill to achieve. But please, please get yourself an Alice band 😊
The ponytail has no place in rock ‘n’ roll. The Alice band, even less so. The latter being very much the arm band/stabiliser of long hair ownership.
@@BobbyHarrisonGuitar 😀🤘
Hey Bobby, Your to good at what you do to be silenced by idiot’s and if they win all your fans loo’s
pls Bobby don’t let us loo’s
Also there are a lot of people that will argue with whatever you say, some want you to teach faster some less experienced will want you to teach slower, as you well know, (and Sir Winston Churchill got it right) you can’t please everybody, but I kinda guess you know that 😂😂 So you maybe need to work on how much it effects you, and maybe work on the “I don’t give a Fu.k scale” its a scale that gets easier to play with time 😂😂 either that or your a clever man whipping up controversy to get more clicks 🤔🤔 I wonder, My opinion, your great keep up the good work, and keep posting, 😊😊 Paul H 😂😂
🚓🚓🚓 Pfff... What do you know about playing Pink Floyd anyway!!! 🤣
